I've been following earthquakes and such for several years and pay attention to what he says. I hope he isn't right, but hopefully people in earthquake and tsunami prone areas (and every other American household) have been paying attention to what is going on the world and put together some emergency prepardness kits for just in case.

What a stupid argument. The change between the closest perigee (close approach) and furthest perigee is about 0.3%. this translates to an almost infinitesimally small change in gravitational pull. By the same token, the difference between perigee and apogee is about 10%. If this guy's reasoning is correct, the moon's tidal effect should cause a massive earthquake every month!

The map they show is misleading, they note the Christchurch 6.3 simply because the quake happened close to a populated area and caused significant damage. What they don't mention is that the earth has an average of 140 6.0+ quakes per year over the last decade. Just in January 2011 there were 4 7.0+ quakes, but lets not mention them since it doesn't fit into the clockwise pattern shown on their map. The media is all about fear mongering, big quakes will happen but it's unpredictable to say when.

This scientist says that the supermoon Earth is going to see is today, march 19th 2011, is supposed to trigger earthquakes because of the gravitational pull caused by the moon. (supermoon is supposed to last from march 16th-march 26th.) However, the second article does not state whether the world has experienced a major natural disaster 18 years ago, which was when another supermoon was recorded. I'm skeptical, yet im worried.

I'd say the overall amount of sunlight and various rays generated could be measured by that bouncing off the moon which will be very close this month. Full moon, massive sun rays, ebb and flow of tides at work. It's going to be interesting if not horrifying should something this scale occur.
