here in ohio we call it pop. short and sweet no filler. Dont know why just do it that way. Some people call soda hell Ive even heard called a cold drink. To settle this I accept whatever notation you call it. Anyway its good to drink. It just goes to show you have we are all different in this great country of ours. Setled then lol retrogirl .
@Jaycay76 ok, well than thats the only argument we have :) Maybe we should get together and compare notes haha even though it is SODA, its all good, I still love ya anyways.. and yes I will do the ordering at the restaraunt :)
This has been a long running argument with someone I know.. I say Soda, he says Pop. I dont know.. pop or soda-pop sounds very 1950's to me. And just for the sake of argument. if you look on any can or bottle lable it says SODA.. I rest my case lol :)
ok, this has been a long running argument w/ somebody I know. I say soda , he says pop. I dont know.. soda pop or pop sounds very 1950's to me. and just for the sake or argument if you look on just about any can or bottle label it says SODA... haha I rest my case :)

In michigan we say pop. I was raised that way. I've asked myself that same thing. IT DOESN'T ACTUALLY POP!!!!!! But whatever. Michigan sells Verners and is the only state that does.
kk i have ur solution i call it soda most of the time i say coke though just cuz i drink it alot nd its pretty damn gud... also cuz most gud sodas r made from the coke company...lol look at the side of ur sprite or mountain dew can nd it says cocacola product i get wut ur sayin wit the its not flippin coke y r u callin it dat...that i cannot answer cuz i only no wut autumn thinks and im at that im pretty slow...lol but i call it soda i no a ton of ppl that call it pop
i have always called it soda. but when i moved everyone called it pop. they didnt know what i was talking about .( i work in fast food) so its just a drink now!!
i call it pop and im from Canada n when i went to America calling it that they asked me where i was from,.lol,. there is no reason why i call it pop,it's just the word that i caught onto cuz everyone else was using it,.i usualy just call the certain kind of pop that im talking about by its brand name though,.but you must realize that ther IS NO proper name for anything since matter doesn't exist,.it is only in our minds that we create this reality and make what it is,.use whatevr word u want ppl
I'm from Michigan and we say pop. When I say pop, I'm not thinking about the sound or anything... Pop is just another noun for the liquid you call soda. Coke seems a bit confusing to me too, but I'm sure it's not for people that grow up using that word.
Im from Chicago, Illinois and we call it POP. Chicagoans has been calling it POP for many years way before I was born, even my grandma calls it POP. People who call it SODA are farmers, hillbillys, country folks. Now people that call everything a COKE are the retarded southern rednecks.
I'm from Iowa and I call it pop. The majority of people here call it pop, although some people will once in a while call it soda. Don't take everything so literally I don't call it pop because of the noise it makes. It's just another word for it. Although it bugs me when I'm in the south and people call everything coke. ummmm we call it pop. pretty much everyone in michigan does. yeah...i think we do cuz if you listen to the bubbles they go, "pop! pop! pop!" yeah....haha (:
i call it soda or drink, but most of the time i call it drink. but if some1 ever asks me do u want a coke and i say yea and they ask me what kind, they want like the results because ill say the kind you drink, and it'll just go downhill from there lol
what is that gym workout thing u have on your door? i remember the commercial but i forgot the name and does it work. i really dont care what to call it but i just call it pop which now is going to sound weird as i say it after see this
i call it soda usually. or bby the brand name, like pepsi/coke/dr. pepper.
And i know how you feel. My roommate always calls it coke too. and then all she has is pepsi. and I'm all, "what the hell, biatch, get me my coke-a-cola!"
I mostly call it by the brand/type it is, but in general I call it 'soft drink' because I'm Australian. I've often wondeered why we call it 'soft drink' here, I think it's because compared to alcohol it is 'soft', or maybe when people drank it at bars people would say "you're soft, have a beer"
i call it soda or soda pop lol don't know why i think i picked up the soda pop thing from my sister who lives in ohio lol but most of the time its soda
usually i call it by the type it is, sprite, pepsi, coke, whatever. but if im talking about all of it in general i call it pop.. i have no idea why, i never thought of that before. but im from like a hick town, so that might be why.. everyone here calls it pop.
Here in Singapore we call it by the brands. If it's Pepsi we call it Pepsi. If it's Coca Cola then it's Coke. Etc. Etc. We don't really call Soda. Or even Pop(?). That's just so weird.
well i dont call coke soda. But if its a soda other then coke i call it soda. like dr. pepper or sprite. but i NEVER say pop. that just sounds weird. and i dont really care about the diffrence between coke and pepsi or dr. pepper and mr. pipp. it all taistes the same
We, in Australia call Coca-Cola - Coke. We never really use 'soda' (unless there's some Americans who now lives here in Australia who uses 'soda'). 'Pop' is unheard of here too. I never even knew people called it 'pop' at all.
So generally: Coca-Cola = Coke, Sprite = Sprite, Pepsi = Pepsi, etc. There are cheaper brands of cola who incorporates 'cola' into their title in various uses, but they taste yucky so I don't buy them anymore.
I have lived in the west and north and in the north we called it pop but when i was in the west, we call it soda, and i cant belive she asked you for a coke and said that they only had pepsie, I hate pepise
I call it soda. But if i was having a coke i would probably call it a coke.. but other than that i never use that. And my cousin lived in South Carolina for a while and she came back home and called it pop and it was so irritating. People on the west coast dont usually call it that unless theyre originally from the east.
Same here, I live in AZ and call is soda, but when I was a little girl I lived in Michigan and they all called it pop there. Soda sounds better in my opinion. ^_^
soda is just carbonated water, if you ever get on an airplane heading towards europe and you ask for soda they will give you carbonated water, i made that mistake lol soda-pop is any flavored carbonated water...i think people just got lazy and just started saying soda or pop instead of the whole term
(continued)Trailing soda and pop in popularity is coke, which has influence in the south likely due to the location of the Coca-Cola plant in Georgia. Ill have a coke, What kind of coke?, Root beer please. While this paper does numerous small surveys on the ubiquity of soda/pop/coke
thought this might help... found this in google :)....The word soda comes from soda-water (sodium bicarbonate with acid to create fizz). Its original meaning was sodium carbonate, Na2CO3, but has evolved into one of the generic terms for a soft drink.Pop was introduced later in 1812 by Robert Southey,A new manufactory of a nectar, between soda-water and ginger-beer, and called pop, because pop goes the cork when it is drawn.
i call it soda... or the name of the actual drink... i HATE when people call it pop... its so anoying.. some of my country relatives call it that haha.
Oh my god I hate that too, when people refer to a general product like a tissue or soda as a major brand like cleenex or Coke even when its made by someone else.
..All about where ya live, I'm just outside Chicago and most everyone calls it pop.
Back in High School though I spent about 5 minutes working at McDonald's trying to wait on a customer for that very reason though.. haha.. He walks up and asks for a Coke-Sprite, I was like, "Um, I'm sorry what?" So he repeated himself and I just stood there utterly confused. "So you want half coke half sprite?" "No I want a Coke-Sprite!" After a little while I realized that he just wanted a Sprite.. lol
it's they're belife and don't mess with it. so my family says soda pop. and it's called pop because of the bubbels inside they sizzel!! so i personally call it soda, but they can call it what ever they want to ! :). :/. >:(
pepise sucks in the first place but me and my friend haley always call it soda cauze that makes sence, but we laught soooooo ahrd when you talked about that one girl who asked you if you wanted coke but she only had pepise
ppl call it pop and there from IOWA so they pronounce it like Pap!!! It pisses me off!! I say soda.... everthing is llike soda 2 me......well not lemonade or water
I'm from Iowa and I don't pronounce it pap. People from Iowa don't really have an accent in my opinion. I've read some other comments saying pop is old sounding but I think soda is old sounding. Some people call it soda and they're generally older. Pop just sounds better in my opinion.
In all truth, coke is a brand. So if someone wanted a soda that is in the line of coke products, it would be politically correct to say that they want a coke. The drink that mose people think is a coke is the coca cola, the first word sounds were similar and looks very similar but they are indeed different, so soda, pop, and coke make since. Soda pop is just an adapatation of pop and soda. The probably later came when the people in between the north and the south combined the 2 words they heard
Well, you have created a very good point here. In all truth, soda is the actualy content, like you said. So it should be called a SODA. Not a pop, a soda-pop, or a coke. However, what you call it depends on where you are from. Those in north USA call it pop because a long time ago people started calling it that. This is because with the old bottles they had to "pop" the top of in order to drink it. (continue to next comment)
I say soda because pop just sounds awkward and I coke just makes NOO sense at all. However, my dad yells at me when I say soda instead of pop so sometimes I am forced to call it pop... which is really stupid.
i call it whatever cums to mind furst and most of the time what comes out is........ "Give me some of that!" soooooo whatever it nvr has mattered to me as long as i get something to drink
I'm from england and i call it fizzy pop or coke (or whatever the drink is) i don't know why though, i just do cos thats what everyone else calls it :)
Its a Minnesota thing haha we say pop most likely cause we have the long O accent so sOOOOda sounds weird yet pop is quick and easy to understand. And also we say soda enough just with the name MinneSODA! I know it has a T in it but most people pronounce it sOda instead of soTa. Clear anything up? haha
ooh well if i want a sprite i say sprite. If i want a doctor pepper i say doctor pepper. If i want a coke, i say coke. Why the hell would you call it pop??

its ANNOYINGLY unspecific!

..All about where ya live, I'm just outside Chicago and most everyone calls it pop.
Back in High School though I spent about 5 minutes working at McDonald's trying to wait on a customer for that very reason though.. haha.. He walks up and asks for a Coke-Sprite, I was like, "Um, I'm sorry what?" So he repeated himself and I just stood there utterly confused. "So you want half coke half sprite?" "No I want a Coke-Sprite!" After a little while I realized that he just wanted a Sprite.. lol

JessicaHappyBurper 2 years ago
I'm from Iowa and I don't pronounce it pap. People from Iowa don't really have an accent in my opinion. I've read some other comments saying pop is old sounding but I think soda is old sounding. Some people call it soda and they're generally older. Pop just sounds better in my opinion.

ok who the hell would ask you for coke when they only have pesi product
harrypottersucks12 2 years ago
In all truth, coke is a brand. So if someone wanted a soda that is in the line of coke products, it would be politically correct to say that they want a coke. The drink that mose people think is a coke is the coca cola, the first word sounds were similar and looks very similar but they are indeed different, so soda, pop, and coke make since. Soda pop is just an adapatation of pop and soda. The probably later came when the people in between the north and the south combined the 2 words they heard
jman1567 2 years ago
Well, you have created a very good point here. In all truth, soda is the actualy content, like you said. So it should be called a SODA. Not a pop, a soda-pop, or a coke. However, what you call it depends on where you are from. Those in north USA call it pop because a long time ago people started calling it that. This is because with the old bottles they had to "pop" the top of in order to drink it. (continue to next comment)

I got between Soda and Coke. My brand/flavor of choice is Coca-cola, so regardless of what word I use, my word-choice is 'correct'. :3

I say soda because pop just sounds awkward and I coke just makes NOO sense at all. However, my dad yells at me when I say soda instead of pop so sometimes I am forced to call it pop... which is really stupid.

Clear anything up? haha

Soda. BUT! soda means a sertant type of soda ex) Orange Soda and Grape Soda
Coke is the name of it. So if you want a Coka Cola then people came up with a slang word which is Coke.
The whole pop thing....i think is just another slang word.
