  • "modern day homosexuals" come out when their check book get high enough, lol. Paul was great, and for his time, he certainly was out enough. He was ahead of his time,,,and certainly helped the gay community along, also with laughter. Still a great posting. Thanks

  • The thing was Lynde didn't brag and boast and parade his homosexuality because he didn't need to. Everyone enjoyed him because he was funny as fuck. He didn't have to put his sexuality out there like modern day homosexuals do.

  • paul lynde really hammed it up. how can he percieve himself to be portraying a straight character? obviously he knew what he was doing. it wasn't even a secret that he was gay.

  • I never thought of Endora as a drag queen or Aunt Clara as a lesbian. She was too confused to know what a lesbian was.

  • @zaidrim I love the whole, "she was too confused to know what a lesbian was" comment! Thanks for the laugh!

  • Yikes. I'm sorry but you are really reaching here. There were gay characters and they were obvious. Paul Lynde yes. Anges Moorehead yes, but please don't insult her by calling her a "drag queen." She had style and flair left over from the 40s. Dick Sarget - gay in real life. I think it is important to share the relevance of older gay icons (being around your age myself). Just don't "read into" things that aren't there. And yes, Paul Lynde was wonderful. Best wishes.

  • Paul Lynde was hilarious! I have the Dean Martin celebrety roasts and he's great on those.

  • Sometimes it is most fun to have an expose of the people who you didn't know were gay - And never suspected it, but this is fun.

  • Can i PLUG you in the butt?

  • If Paul Lynde was alive today (and working), I'm sure he would have gotten a kick out of voicing Roger from American Dad. Seth does a great job of it, but I bet he'd love to have Lynde fill that roll.

  • very true. thank you for this!

  • for a long time i didnt know he was gay until someone told me so atleast for me,he got his wish....paul lynde is my favorite actor and i especially loved him as the hooded claw in the perils of penelope pitstop

  • I'm not gay but I admire Paul very much. I was in the 7-9 age range (maybe even younger - born in '69) when he was at the top of his game on Hollywood Squares and I loved him because he was genuinely funny. He had a line for everything. But the thing I liked most about him on HS was the fact that when he would hunker down and get serious, you could tell that he really was trying to think of the right answer for the contestant. He'd get this little glint in his eye. He was a good dude.

  • Hey, I'm not gay but I remember Paul Lynde from my childhood and when I was old enough to know what gay mean I knew he was gay. He was openly gay which back then wasn't too exceptable and didn't try to hide it at all; in fact, when he was on Hollywood Squares he was asked to tone down his humor.

  • kolgy1 you are an idiot-maybe do some research into what you are saying before you come out with a stupid comment like that.

  • @bramguy48 The fact that the Video even trys to equate the WHOLE cast into some Gay universe is offensive to me, This video is so far off the mark.

  • The rumor that the entire cast of Bewitched was Gay is just another lie spread by the Gay Community to make their life style acceptable.

  • @kolgy1 Hey, no actually there was speculation about some of the cast. Agnes was believed to be gay but close friends dispelled that rumor. Dick Sargant, Paul Lynde and were gay. Maurice Evans is believed to be gay as well.

  • Paul Lynde was revered by American audiences because he was fun-loving and witty, His sexuality had nothing to do with anything, Americans ARE a tolerant and empathetic people, despite what too many people claim,

  • I've enjoyed your series, but i don't think it's actually fair to imply he simply "imagined" he couldn't get work as a known homosexual. His fears,at that time, were absolutely well founded. And, don't you think his obvious gay persona had been honed by years of acting experience, where he found what would bring laughs?Had he been given an opportunity to play it straight, I'm sure he would have let much of that "mugging" go by the wayside. It would have been wonderful to have seen him in a drama.

  • what? Holy moly---what dribble. Is everybody gay in your twisted world.

  • Paul Lynde was great in everything he did. It is a shame that he died so soon.

As for Dick Sargent and Dick York, I thought that both of them were gay.

  • Great Job and Salute to Paul Lyne. I hope the "kids" go back to look at those who led the path to Mainstream Gay Audianceces. I know this isnt a Gay thing but PAUL would want this media to Recognize Him as a Leader to Freedome. yes he woudl

  • most of the cast of bewitched were in fact gay. dick sargeant was gay, how do you get named dick sargeant and not turn out gay. endora was a lesbian.. this is a great video, i had a drag queen punk band in pittsburgh for a while i named paul lynde 451, he remains a comic hero to me.

  • It funny how some gays think most are gay Shuuuut up

  • justin fashanu is the only gay icon out there all the rest r just pretenders

  • I'm gay. And I'm gonna be forty-four soon. I Grew up watching reruns of the Dick Van Dyke show and Bewitched et al. Never once thought of Aunt Clara as gay....or Maurice....or Gladys Kravitz....or Endora. It all seems a bit of a stretch. Particularly Aunt Clara. I did, however, have a gay crush on Batgirl. She had her own theme song and she had that snappy, skin tight outfit. She could kick real high and dish out snappy retorts. Looking back, I realize she was my first drag queen.

  • Maybe Paul is gay, but don't deface the reat of the cast. I hate that you say that Endora, Clara and Maurice are gay!!! I am agay man but please don't deface everybody else for your agenda. I hate this!!!

  • @willyboi708 I agree

  • Great name Scott

  • Hey man you keep doing your shit. Voice is a little annoying but hey man do your thing.

  • ya know what? There is NOTHING wrong with these quote stereotypical gays...you have them to thank for EVERYTHING that is easier about being gay today. Ingrates

  • Wow... its people like this who perpetuate the stereo type of a gay mam

  • I feel sorry for the guy who posted this video.

  • I feel sad that he didn't make it to my lifetime, but I really enjoy watching him on Bewitched reruns and here on Youtube. I consider him a hero...I couldn't imagine growing up in his lifetime.

  • I'm flamingly heterosexual, and I think Paul Lynde is one of the great comedy geniuses of the 20th century...I've been going through those old Hollywood squares on Hulu while making breakfast, and he just kills.

Great talk, Scott—I'll check out more of yours. You should check out (if you haven't yet) Dave Hickey's genius essay on Liberace and the semiotics of the open secret, "A Rhinestone as Big as the Ritz." You can find it in his book Air Guitar, or as a separate pamphlet through Bük...

  • Good 4 U. It was alot harder then. God, he was funny. Thank U Scott. Luv ya.

  • I remember him fondly. I typically started laughing before he even began speaking. I wish the world would get over the fact that some folks are just Gay. End of story. Paul Lynde was an absolute genius!

  • Well said. Paul lived in a very difficult time. He died at a time when tolerance was just about to really begin.

He was amazingly talented and widely loved by all sorts of people. I too loved Paul as a child and can really appreciate his talent in adulthood.

I have to say also, he is one of the main reasons why I'm not a homophobe!

  • Paul Lynde was one of my favorites when I was growing up. I loved his seeming exuberance, and I never knew about him growing bitter in his later years. That is too bad because he really brought joy to people through his acting. Another excellent installment of this series. Thanks for posting.

  • It's hard to imagine what Paul would be like if he were alive today. 83 and probably a regular guest on Regis and Kelly & The View. Hopefully he would be happier. He was very bitter that he could not pass and thus not taken seriously enough to play the leads or heavies. He so deeply wanted to be respected and felt his flamboyance limited him. Carry On star Kenneth Williams had the same problem.

  • Haha, I'm the first to comment of this video! You keep hitting the nail on the head and I can't thank you enough! Paul Lynde really is a hero!
