  • Tanks you very much man!

  • Happy to have helped. =)

  • that clip was already chroma keyed and put in a green background man...

  • It wasn't. I created the clip inside of the meta-verse game Second Life, using my avatar in an Altáir costume which was filmed in front of a virtual green screen so to speak.

So the basic principles are the same as using real people and a real green screen.

  • @LordReserei01 How about white background, so I got this effect and the background is white, so how do I remove it?

  • It might cause a few issues if the footage you want to add the effect to has white in it. Let's say if it's a person and at some point their teeth are showing - you could inadvertently chroma key out their teeth.

  • @LordReserei01 Only that issue? It's okay if it has issues can you tell me?

  • Something like that is the only thing I can guess. All I can say is try it and see if you run into any issues.

  • for fuck sake i dont have the chroma keyer thing!!! what now?

  • What version of Sony Vegas do you have?

  • @LordReserei01 i have 9

i looked for it online for 1 hour

    coulnt find it

    Help?

Also sorry for bad leanguage :(

  • It usually tells you on start up, but you can go to Help>About when the program is running. If you have Movie Studio HD Platinum, that doesn't have some features that Pro has.

  • I cant believe they dont have Luma keyer, fuck chroma it sucks! makes it more difficult! luma is so easy it uses black screen

  • Sony Vegas Pro has Luma keyer - it's just called Mask Generator.

  • @LordReserei01 oh shit really? thats not fair bcus how is ppl suppose to know what that is when things change but thanx alot man.

  • I have an issue where even non green areas change color. for example an xbox live avatar's skin becomes blue and the green part becomes black even when I've added a background.

  • That's odd. O.o

I've never come across that issue personally so not sure what advice to give I'm afraid. Hopefully someone else will see your comment and have something to offer since you're more than likely not the first person to have it.

  • daz what im talking about!!! str8 and to the damn point!!!!! THANX DUDE!

  • Thanks. I try to do all of my videos like that, and it's the reason why I started doing tutorials...I hate those tutorials that take 5 minutes to explain something that could've been done in 2 minutes. XD

  • sweet

  • Sweet! =)

  • Like, Fav

    tnx :D

  • stupid question alert. but can blue be used instead of green ? an if so what shade of blue is best ?

  • Yes, you can use blue and a lot of movies have used blue screens like Star Wars. As for the shade - just normal/solid blue.

  • Note to self: Horrible cellphone cameras and greenscreens don't mix at all.

  • Im getting an odd glitch where only half my video is being changed while the other half has no effect, please respond quickly as this movie has to be finished in a few days, thanks.

  • I've never come across that issue before so I'm not quite sure what advice to give. O.o

  • @LordReserei01 oh well, thank you very much for the quick reply means a lot. Hopefully I'll fix it in the end.

  • Thanks! I didnt know it was that simple! :D

  • Great video keep up the good work.

  • As long as it's green or blue - you should be able to do with shirts or even a piece of paper.

  • omfg thanks soooooooo much!!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D btw whats the song?

  • Everyday by Carly Comando. =)

  • awesome man!

  • Nice! Now i will make some videos!

  • nice ;

  • Sweet =D !!!

  • Happy to help. Remember to check out my full playlist of Sony Vegas Pro tutorials. =)

  • Thanks for the tutorial mate :)

  • No problem - hope it helped. =)

  • @LordReserei01 Thanks so much you really helped me, but i'm having one small problem, i have recorded some footage of a game (Not moving) it basicly shows a screen in game (Its green) but i need to put a video on that screen so it looks like the screen is playing a video, but i like need to crop the ''Camera footage, that is shown on the green monitor'' but i don't know how.. Thanks in advance

  • You might need to use a combination of Event Pan/Crop and masking. If you can send a link to a screenshot in a PM or something, might be able to offer better help. =)

  • thanx brother that was easy.... :D

  • Happy my video helped - I try to keep everything as quick and easy as possible. =)

  • muy bueno che! gracias!

  • Thank you so much! this is really easy, and I never even knew this was in Sony vegas pro! This sure is going to help me with my videos. Thanks alot! :D

  • You'd be surprised what can be done in Sony Vegas Pro...it's definitely underrated. Fun fact, the film Paranormal Activity was edited in Sony Vegas Pro!

Either way, was happy to help and I try to keep my tutorials as easy as possible for everyone because nothing needs to be complicated. =)

  • might sound like a dumb question but does the background have to be green? what about a white background? or any other soild colour?

  • It just needs to be a colour that contrasts against what's in your footage. Some people use green, blue, red since they're farthest away from skin tones and other primary or secondary colors.

On rare compassion orange or purple. I guess it's something you'd have to plan out.

  • compassion?...I meant occasions (damn Android predictive typing). lol

  • @LordReserei01 I make perfect dark machinimas and using chroma key would let me have some pretty cool effects and save me a lot of time!

But unlike the game you are playing here there is no green screen.

But I might be able to find a solid wall somewhere in game.

Just not sure if that will work =/

  • Ah...not sure what to suggest. If it was any other PC game could've tried to modify it.

Like for example the game Star Trek: Bridge Commander you can chang the bitmap that's used for space and there's a way to get green screen in Crysis

  • @JMMREVIEW It can be but green is just universally use

  • thanks a lot its really easy and short video

  • Glad I could help...I like to keep things as short and simple as possible. =)

  • nvm im srry its becaus ei had to colr the green in paint green lol

  • doesnt work boo

  • How so?...can you describe what happened or didn't?

I may be able to, I like to try as much as I can.

  • Oh, and also - which version of Sony Vegas you're using.

  • Thanks, I like sharing and helping. If there's anything you want to know about Windows, Photoshop or Sony Vegas Pro - just send me a PM and I'll always reply as fast as I can or make a tutorial specifically for you. =)

  • This helps a lot. Thank you.

  • Thanks, it's always a pleasure to help. =)

  • ur da best man ^.^

  • You may just need to adjust a few settings. This tutorial is basically to give you a start, the basics.

  • ohh i get it now

the chroma keyer turns the picked color into alpha

so the background would go to alpha color

  • yeah, that's one way of looking at it and probably the best way to describe it that I've heard. =)

  • Thanks! You explained that really well. I'm self taught oc computers so I can build them but I don't know all the techie terms. You made that simple. Now say I want to insert myself into another video do I have to literally film myself in front of a greenscreen or is there an effect?

  • Always happy to help a fellow custom builder (my PC's custom and built by myself also, same with the one prior) and I try to keep things as simple and quick as possible for people at all levels. You do literally film yourself in front of a green or blue screen I'm afraid.

This can be accomplished by using card or fabric of the respectful colours. The other way (masking) is a lot more time consuming. =)

  • Sweet! =D

  • didn't work D=

  • do you mean for replacing green screen or to use as like a green screen?

  • mate your a beast

i watched this other guy and i took him like 8 minutes to do the same thing :)

    good jobb

  • Haha, thanks.

Yeah, one of the first things that I had in mind when I started making tutorials and what I always try to do is keep them quick, try and explain as much as I can and so anyone can follow them. I mean, I started out watching tutorials like 5, 8, 10 minutes long thinking "this really isn't necessary".

As far as I'm aware, this is the shortest tutorial on YouTube for green screen. =)

  • @LordReserei01 Hi! coll video, I'm into greenscreening and all that stuff but do you know how to, for example, If I were to make a video where there's a moving video and I use a greenscreen in front of the frame to add the video digitally, how could I make the second video not to only display a tiny part of it in the green frame but display the full video on the green painting. thankz!

  • You could just using masking in Event Pan/Crop and/or resize it using Track Motion. I have videos for both that would give you the basics. =)

  • awesome EZIO :D

    thanks for tut :D

  • Hey, do you know how to add clouds to a vid?, ive been looking all over the place to find one where you add it through a screen or osmething, not a media generator, I believe. Its in iolrickx vids :P, the clouds look really cool lolz

  • It's in media generators under noise texture. Although, if you search for a user called AquuL, he has a lot of free stock footage that you can then use chroma key on to add realistic clouds and smoke.

  • @LordReserei01 Wat? iolrickx told me used an effect but didnt tell me much more. Besides I wanna go in front of the clouds, I believe one of the thigns he used was chroma key, but it darkens my vid, do I use color correction to fix it?

  • @LordReserei01 Iv ebeen tryna find it but naw, no luck, the mask generator isnt what I meant, cuzz those clouds cant compare to iolrickx, and if I try chroma key, my background turns a lot darker, but I will be in front of the clouds taht I try to add, still, my background turns darker, so could you make a tut about it? I'll tell you if its what Im looking for :D

  • i think u helped a lot of people, im included... thank u

  • More than happy to help. As always, don't forget to check out my other tutorials under my "Sony Vegas Pro Tutorials" playlist...might find something else useful. =)

  • Thanks!

  • Thanks a bunch

  • Glad I could help! =)

  • Wtf I dont have chroma key on my edition of SV. Where can I get one (preferrably for free)? I already checked the pirate bay

  • Sony Vegas Pro 8/9/10 has it although I can't be sure about Movie Studio. TPB would be the best place if you wanted to do that.

  • you'll have to mask out the object you to want have against a green screen or see if there's a way to mod the game so it has an in-game green screen.

  • quick easy helpfull three words for which i subbed :)

  • thanks man, chroma key is so easy ;D

  • Glad to help.

I see videos that are longer and far more complicated than they need to be...so I try to make things as quick and simple as possible!

Don't forget to check out my other tutorials. All of my videos and placed into playlists to make things easier and quicker to find. =)

  • @LordReserei01 sure will.

  • Can I use a blue screen??

  • Short answer: yes

    Long answer:

You can basically use anything that contrasts against clothes or objects in your footage. So blue, green, purple (in some cases) and red (in some cases).

if you have a lot of green in say clothes, obviously go with blue. If you have blue and green in your footage then use a red screen.

  • how can you extract a person from a video and add them to another?

  • You'd need to mask out the person in Event Pan/Crop frame by frame while making sure the video track is above the other.

  • @parkerdonald1 thanks, for getting back to me. for that i will subscribe.

  • i need help, when ever i try to use the green screen,in doesent work,im doing everything correctly

  • I'm not sure what to suggest to be honest. =/

  • THANK U

  • yh but how to u get the green screen?

  • You'd have to buy one or make one somehow. =)

  • @LordReserei01 correct you can make one out of a bed sheet if its green stand or lay in some grass, for games thell have a green area somewhere position your character in it and *click*

  • sweet! =D

  • sweet! =D

  • where is download to Camtasia Recorder 6.0

  • Wow, thanks for the concise tutorial. I added this to my favorites for future reference.

  • I'm glad I could help. I try to comply with a quote from one of the most influential scientists of the 20th century.

"Make things as simple as possible, but not simpler" -- Albert Einstein

So I try and keep my tutorials quick, simple but not lacking in explanation or cutting corners. I've seen so many people do tutorials for something in five minutes that could be done in a couple of minutes or less. =)

  • Im using the pro 10 trial and getting 9 in a week this really helps

  • You won't be dissapointed with 10. There's a lot of improvements over 9 and a lot of cool features. This tutorial and any others I've done will work with 10.

Just check out my "Sony Vegas Pro tutorials" playlist. =)

  • Thanks alot :)

  • thanx! i needed this(:

  • was glad to help, don't forget to check out my other tutorials under my "Sony Vegas Pro Tutorials" playlist. =)

  • is vegas pro 10.0 the best editing software or theres better things than vegas pro

  • Most people will say Adobe Premier CS5 is better for editing but I honestly think that those people under estimate Sony Vegas Pro and I personally think it's the best that works for me (I've tried Adobe Premier in the past). =)

  • Indeed!...I've not long gotten in from window shopping in the city centre...just a 10mins bus journey away.

How's the snow been your way? (had a quick look at your page)...it's been as freaky as hell here like a week or two back.

  • why can I chroma key only half of the screen?

  • Thanks! This will come in very handy for future videos :)

  • Sweet! =D

  • @marco24O you cant rate anymore but you can like

  • love the music "the piano"

  • can u put a video has the the background of the green screen?

  • Yes

  • @LordReserei01 how? lol

  • How do i put small vids(size) into a small piece of green screen? like if have a paper, and then i want ALL of the movie IN SIZE to be ON that piece of paper? hope any of you guys can help me. by the way i have sony vegas pro 10, which is a lot like pro 9.

  • @GODDARNITMAN

1)Click on the track that has the item you want to resize (in other words, the one that you want to fit onto the piece of paper).

2)Click the "Track Motion" button to the left of the "Track FX" button.

    3) From this screen you can specify a new height and width then drag the clip to the desired location.

Now just make sure this layer is used as the "background" in the above tutorial. The only difference is, you need to make sure the paper is the "green screen" color instead.

  • Do you have to use a green screen?

  • green and blue are most commonly used but you could use any colour that contrasts against what's in your video.

If you're wearing green, go with blue screen

If you're wearing blue, go with green

You can use orange or purple which is uncommon.

  • the background song is Everyday :)

  • Sometimes my body fades away how come?

  • You may need to adjust some of the settings or you're wearing clothes too close in colour to your background.

  • i am using my white wall :)

  • thank u

  • u can still do this if say u have recorded in a white background? or does ur background HAVE to be green to work

  • @eve2hip1309 make a keygen then

  • THANKS SOO MUCH ;D

  • No thanks needed...was glad to help. =)

  • thanks dude faved

  • No problem, was glad to help! =)

  • thx 4 the vid

  • sweet :D

  • what if the background is moving?

  • You'd have to make new keyframes in the Chrome Keyer time line when and for any changes...do a little more tweaking.

  • @LordReserei01 ok but i need help removing the black recorded lines around it

  • You may need to do some panning and cropping in Sony Vegas to get rid of the black lines using Event Pan/Crop and/or make sure that "Maintain aspect ratio" under "Source" is set to "No" if needed. =)

  • do you need to pan and crop?

  • Not necessarily, if you don't need to. I just did it quickly for the fact I wanted to get the game's UI out of the way.

  • does it also work with for example light pink?

  • You might be able to get away with using light pink. I can't say for sure though.

  • Thanks alot ! :D

  • i tried to do the green screen thing and the box after you pressed ok so you can select the colour didn't pop up :S help please

  • I want to green screen my character of the game battlefield heroes.

  • thank you very much, it's so easy when it's explained but if you know nothing about sony vegas going in to it, its VERY confusing, at least for me anyway, but i'm definitely subscribing and checking out all your videos! Thanks again

  • i got a problem!

i tried ur tutorial , which was very nice!.. on my first try the greenscreen worked perfect (thank you).. then i wanted to change my background picture and now, my whole video-fx doesnt work anymore.. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?!?!?! please help me!!!!!!!

  • Nice, This Is Exactly What I Needed To Know, Nice Post Buddy, & Yes, I Will Subscribe.

  • nice tutorial man, very to the point and informative.!

  • i already knew how to do it but i forgot about the colour picker!

  • Straight to the point no bullshit in-between thanks heaps.

  • omj thanks soooo much for this!!!!

  • your intro says: Subscribe!!!

    so, i Subscribed

  • sweet =D

  • sweet :D

  • I put in the chroma keyer, then i make the backround black and after that i put a picture below my video...but then the picture doesn´t appear as a backround!!!

    Does anybody know why??

  • @Estates2010 you have to put the clip and the pic there first then do the chroma keyer effect

  • how the fuck do u get the video green?

  • In a real life situation (I say real life because I used a game for this video) you'd use a piece of green cloth, wooden board painted or something else as a backdrop.

Another way (although very time consuming) is if you already have video of someone or something that you want green screened is to rotoscope (masking out everything but the person frame by frame).

  • Sweet! =D

  • omg thanx! im wastw mi weekend found a video like this! and today, thursday, im founded! thnx a lot!

  • No problem, was glad to help. =)

  • sweet! =D

  • This is so much more clear than any other tutorial on youtube. Straight to the point, I liked it :D Thanks alot, it helped so much

  • No problem...that's how I try to make all of my videos...straight the point and easy...nothing has to be difficult in life. =)

  • any color?

  • No, most commonly Blue, Green and in some cases Purple or Orange since those contrast alot against skin tones, clothes and such. =)

  • big thanks!
