after my brother Randy Pettengill age 19 was killed by a drunk driver my dad listed to this song over & over, plus Why me.....I still great joy listen to them even after 39 yrs....
kinda hurt;s It is only friday yet the beer I had for breakfast worries me cause it only tastes like a teaser and last night was hell. Thanks anyhow Kris and you make all of us proud to be Americans evan with are flaws
Went to see Kris at the Johnny Cash Festival at the Ventura Fairgrounds not too long ago. Think I was one of the few oldies but goodies there. You felt like Kris was singing just to you. He is so gracious and personable.
@weewill32 - I have loved this song for decades and never felt encouraged to get stoned - but I can nevertheless understand the feelings he describes and empathise with those in that situation. As for why he's still performing - because there are thousand upon thousands of us who love his voice and his music. I saw him on this tour at the Royal Albert Hall and it was a magical experience.
I have loved this song all of my life...well since 8 years old or so when I first heard it.... on the kitchen radio sung by Johnny Cash. I have always related to it and have walked some sleepy city Sunday sidewalks in my time.... and lonliness and beer and dirty shirts I have also known..
I absolutely love this song . Used to wake up every Sunday hurting so bad I couldn't move , I don't drink anymore , but this song sure brings back a lot of memories .
as an x alcy believe me this song is so true .been thier one sip and would be back you have to loose every thing.and more .to really know what this song is all about ..jj ozz.
i went and saw charley pride and he payed the fella the greatest compliment i think one human being could give another. it went something like this . Charley said " kris went to harvard so not only is he the greatest song writter he knows he a clever prick as well"
anyone considered a real true friend by Johnny Cash has to be a damn good soul. and he loved Kris like a brother. i bet Kris will never get over the loss of big John. Love ya Kris.. keep doing what you do best. spreading your good spirit around this spiritually bankrupt place we call home.
This is the Paradiso in Amsterdam, 11th March '08. This guy was 71 when he did this performance and he's still touring regularly. Catch him if you can - you will never forget the wonderful intimacy of one of his concerts.
Thank you so much for posting this!! I love the song--Kris makes you feel like that Sunday morning he's talking about. It sounds even more honest and human now than when he first wrote it.
among other things Kris has done..... he played opposite Barbra Striesand..... and that my friend is amazing, in A Star is Born... not to mention he wrote Me and Bobby McGee
Kris is one of the best, and prolific country writers of the 'modern era'. Many singers have fed off of his great talents.
His history is rather odd for a country writer/singer: he was a fighter-jet fighter in the Viet Nam days, and wanted OUT. Army told him he still owed a few years...he spent them as a math professor at West Point !
...to bad the bastards took down the best video with this song, that black & white one with scenes of a city and a guy walking through it with Kris singing of course..why did they do that?..this is great of course, but that video said a a lot also, did anyone else see it?
he gave a wonderful performance of this song on the elvis costello interview show on sundance network...in the background gently smiling was norah jones
Thanks lots of times for this wonderful video, the sound and the photos, like being at his concerts.Absolutely the best. This was my first favourite, too, when I discovered Kris in -70.He has been "My Hero" ever since. I love him,all his lyrics, his powerful voice with lots of feelings. He makes me feel alive.
Thanks to Kris and for this video.Wish more of this quality.Love Marie, Norway.
I went to see him at the Apollo,in Manchester March 2008,for the first time.He was and still is a Legend.I wish I could have seen him about twenty years ago though.Great performance even at 71 years old !.
Thanks for posting this video. Kris is simply the best; and he is like a good wine: The older, the better! Do you have some other songs of this concert. Saw him last year twice: In Hörsching and in Vienna and I posted two videos from thos concerts.

why is he still performing? Ok he is still good but I thought he was off the drink so why does he encourage the rest of us by this empathy?
