  • Wayne is gonnah run out of oxegen in that bubble one day,..... saddest day ever!

  • The Beatles could have done this. Nicely played, sirs.

  • this may sound pretty lame but that sponge bob soundtrack introduced me to the flaming lips AND ween...so I have a lot to thank for that CD since those are two of my faveriot bands now, bahaha

  • @manicalhippieboy lame my ass.. that's awesome! now go see em live! they are a life changer

  • Comment removed

  • haha what a coincidence, that is today

  • at 3:02 the bubble doesnt even look real

  • Why don't they have a bubble machine in the back going crazy?

  • this is my favorite version!

  • actually, most of their songs are about serious philosophical ideas such as mortality and the "non-existance" of god.

  • this is when Wayne had an auto-immune disease.

  • @ryanmossop21 - I doubt that that's the most creative thing you could have come up with to address whoever that is.

  • i want to live in waynes world

  • Definitely looked like Wayne was faking and then of course u have Ur random mixing sounds and organ in there so half that performance was either faked and pre recorded

  • @sunindie4 No, Just Wayne is pretty notorious for just holding a guitar but everyone else was playing and he was singing

  • Yes o.0 saw Flaming Lips in Ohio recently, it was all i coulda hoped for and more. I touched the space bubble n.n

  • anyone know whats Wayne's guitar?

  • Only flaming lips can pull this off (A song about spoungebob)... Maybe Ween?... But I would like theres better.

  • what a depressing audience

    they must not have souls

  • @PinkFloydrulez They're On Late Night Of Course They Don't!

  • I just love these crazy basterds.

  • The ONLY time ANYTHING related to sponge bob was cool, EVER.

  • This song is profoundly touching.

  • I love this band.

  • Anybody see Later With Jools Holland where the lead singer was wearing giant hands?

  • @ChaplainC Actually the Lips had (and still continue to have) a large amount of songs that are "hits". The entire homage they did to Dark Side of the Moon with Rollins was incredible. Not to mention that Clouds Taste, Yoshimi, and Oh My Gawd are all fantastic records.

  • @valuedlandscape Just saw them live in Chicago and it was AWESOME! They revisited "The Soft Bulletin" and it was . . .well one of the best concerts I have ever been too. Love the Lips and your dead right, they are amazing!! Huge huge fan! Newbies to the music need to stop judging it based off Sponge Bob.

  • He might just have a wireless unit, I think that's what the big mass of blue duct tape at the bottom corner of his guitar is holding together.

  • who the fuck would dislike this?

  • is his guitar even plugged in? i can't tell where the lead is coming out

  • I love how Wayne's in a bubble. Is that because the song's called SpongeBob & Patrick Confront the Psychic Wall of Energy? If so that's very clever.

  • @RAMSscape Wayne almost always performs in a bubble, as far as I know.

  • @migbee Really? I've know he starts gigs by rolling around in a zorbing style bubble, but I've never seen him actually perform in a bubble.

  • @RAMSscape I've seen them a couple times, and he donned the bubble more than once. He didn't play the whole show on it... I don't think... But then again, everything was melting and blending together and I was having cosmic revelations about the you-ni-verse...... .............. ........

  • a lot of times his guitar is just for show. I admit, it bothers me.

  • Wayne is not playing here. He's said it before in interviews, that nowadays he just plays a fake guitar or one that isn't plugged in

  • @fruitbatrepublic Which interview?

  • @fruitbatrepublic he played a real one that was plugged in at the new years eve freakout

  • They have some sweet boots

  • this song / perfomance makes me intensely happy.

  • ♥ ♥ ♥

  • It looks like Wayne isnt even playing anything. haha. But some of Stevens best rock guitar work hear. IMO. :)

  • @mudjunky78 He's in a ball. What's his guitar plugged into?

  • @tatasfred There are cordless guitars. They work by way of some sort of radio signal.

  • Comment removed

  • Hehe the static makes their costumes sparkly.

  • loving Drozd's attempted kick at 2:35.

  • If you could bottle happiness, it would be the Flaming Lips.

Coincidentally, if you put it into a bubble, it's Wayne.

  • @mrfudgeyhead top comment wade, isaiah approves<3

  • Is his guitar connected with one of those radio transmittors or is he just playing without a chord, and like sort of pretending to play?

  • Obviously Wayne isn't playing here, but wtf kind of guitar is that and wtf did he do to it? I want to think it's a 12-string Rickenbacker with some epic mods, but the inlays don't look like Rickenbacker inlays...

  • @asdf331331 I seen some models from back in the 50's that were kinda like this, Japanese Rickenbacker knockoffs, pretty awesome in there own way. Look up Teisco

  • I want a giant bubble to walk around and play guitar in!

  • hahaha so funny :)

  • Wayne's insane.

  • @GoodApolloImSteve I love it :D

  • Comment removed

  • @GoodApolloImSteve party on, wayne

  • @GoodApolloImSteve

It's a delightful madness, he makes me want to just invent crazy shit and use it everywhere.

  • They should change their name to FPF or the "Flaming Pink Flamers!" :)

Now I understand the true meaning behind the "Vaseline" song! :)

  • @MrCamelneck nailed it.

  • trippy

  • Yea I remember this, a huge bubble hahaha. I think Wayne still does shrooms or acid sometimes on the side...come on now, what a fucking hippie!

  • anyone know what guitar wayne is holding? it looks awesome i want one

  • This combines three of my favourite things!

  • this is why the flaming lips are so cool.

  • I think this was one of the songs from Spongebob the movie...I bet the creator of the show is a tripper/stoner as well.

  • @hobbit151 now-a-days i agree with you, but the old episodes were actually good.

  • @hobbit151 uh you think its from the movie? he said it at the get go you simpleton...

  • lmfao... what the hell is this?

  • how did i miss this? this is sooo cool! patrick would love it!!!!!! time for some munchieeees!

  • pink boots+ bubble it's a funny music band

  • Great song. Very simple sounding, but incredibly catchy and exciting.

  • you think they have fun?

  • man i want that bubble!

  • I kind of just want to touch Wayne's face.

  • Maybe lick it a little right?

We've all been there man. Totally normal.

  • hahaha give his beard a little rustle

  • CUUTE CD

  • interesting stuff to know. i had no clue

  • Yeah I just say them live, at treasure island, he played his guitar there

  • wayne isn't playing the guitar, but the drummer is... wayne never actually plays his instrument live.

sound is quicker than the eye? take a physics class, genius.

  • I have always wondered why he does play guitar live? He used to play all the time back in the day, its not like he doesnt know how or anything. I still love them to death!

  • Anyone ever heard of wireless mic and amp rigs??? Wayne's a fucking front man.. he's singing with the mic attached to his face who cares if he takes a break from the g tar to put on a show... if you watch, he knows the chords, he's just havin fun on conan

  • Can I clear this up with people?

Yes, it's true Wayne isn't playing guitar at live shows.

But he is a guitar player. Most of the 80's, he was the lead guitarist, and he also was the founder of the band. Give the guy some respect!

  • This song make me cry

  • you idiot. guitars aren't plugged in? stephen strums the guitar at the start to test it out! it's the video that's out of sync. jebus.

  • dude the video is out of sync thats why

  • Have you not heard of wireless? Plenty of musicians use wireless devices to connect their guitars to their amplifiers.

Wayne isn't playing, but he's known for having an instrument on hand just to mess around with...

  • I see chords. Perhaps you just cant see them cause you want to find something like 'the dont have chords plugged in'

  • i think wayne is just using the guitar as a prop.....it's not plugged into anything.

  • I hate to say it but you're right. I've seen them live a couple of times and it's really easy to tell. Also if you watch UFOs at the zoo and pay attention to his play during yoshimi he's way off. I still love him to death.

  • if you're referring to him playing acoustic guitar, there is a light sensor in the near the sound hole and whenever he strums the guitar, you don't hear the sound of the actual guitar, but a sample of the guitar part triggered by the motion of his hand passing over that area of the instrument.

a sample of a guitar recorded in the studio beats the 'sound' of a live one and is more consistent.

that's what's going on on the UFO's at the zoo dvd.

  • This isn't true. If you watch UFO's at the zoo you can see him totally off sync. There's no light sensor. If there was it wouldn't be playing sound when he's not strumming, which happens in the DVD. I don't know why he doesn't play sometimes. He can play guitar, just chooses not to. I still love Wayne.

  • awesome, and i love wayne's madscientist guitar

  • The Flaming Lips are great and convinned with the awesome style of SpongeBob, makes this song work like magic.

  • Jeez I don't like that Wayne isn't playing. I'd rather he just didn't have a guitar instead of... guitar-synching you could say.

  • He sometimes carries a beat-up acoustic with a cellphone stuck to it as a prop as well. maybe he just feels like holding something while he sings...

  • Is this the Krusty Krab?

    No, this is Patrick.

  • i love this song

  • good childrens song XD

  • Wayne is definitely not playing. Awesome all the same

  • the people who make spongebob have a good taste in music theve had the flaming lips, shins in the credits, and ween playe din the tying shoes epasode.

  • @kirck23 But they took out all the verses for the ending credits, those bastards.

  • That's because some people out their know that children friendly entertainment can actually have legitimate artistic merit, and doesn't have to be grating, obnoxious, condescending bullshit. Excellence like spongebob and the lips goes together like scrambled eggs and tomatoe sauce.

  • @kirck23

And Ocean Man is in the credits. I fuckin love everything about Spongebob the Lips and Ween. They rock my socks.

  • @mrfudgeyhead Oh yeah!

  • @kirck23 And Pantera

  • @kirck23 I understand most of that, but when it gets to "shins in the credits" you kinda degenerate into dribbling insanity...

  • now don't get me wrong, i love the flaming lips, by far the best band, but i can't help but wonder if wayne is really playing here... i mean, i can't hear whatever it is that he is playing. it is a good song either way, always puts some pep in my step on the way to class, and a good movie. Hell, everything about this whole idea is good.

  • When I first saw this movie I was too young to even know who the flaming lips were!

It's pretty cool to find out years later that one of my favorite bands actually wrote the song I'd hummed to my self for months

  • does anyone have the music video for this?

  • I could upload it too, but it'll most likely get pulled off. Warner Music owns the rights. They requested youtube remove all of their label's artists videos last December.

  • That's rank! Can you do it though please?

  • I love this song. I love the Spongebob movie too.

  • where the hell did he get that guitar!!

  • I used to be the ONLY song I would listen to when I was in the 4th grade when the movie was out

  • i'm glad someone put this up. I've been telling people about this performance for years but nobody i've talked to have ever seen it. they will now! ha! see!...I"M NOT CRAZY! it did happen!

  • OMG Best EVER!

I love the attempted bubble hug at the end.

  • fantastic

  • I friggin love these guys. They are truly amazing live.

  • i second that. my favourite band and daytime televised entertainment put together.. great
