If you want a modern seriously scary game, Try "Amnesia: The Dark Descent." While playing it I get so freaked out that I move along at a snail's pace.

You have almost nothing in the way of weapons. Your only defense in the game is to hide in a dark corner or closet. Even then, your character will start to go insane if they look at the monster, so you must look at a wall or close the closet you are hiding in. You have to wait and listen and hope the monster moves on without discovering you.

For the most part, you weren't alone and it wasn't dark. it isn't for nothing that it was called one of the worst game of the year. The original DOS soundtrack was the best, as performed here. It created the atmosphere. The orchestra version changed the feel of the game and sounded too beautiful in most cases. The ballroom music "Saint Sanes "Dance of Death" were all better sounding the original mysterious soundcard way. Would be awsome if the original was relesed in windows format. If you can "CuteFloor" post some more Alone DOS soundtrack that would be great

They didn't copy anything, but simply added to the genre which AitD helped to start (if I recall... a Japanese NES\Famicom game, the name of which I can't remember just now, is technically the first survival horror game, whereas AitD put the genre on the map).
