For anyone knowledgeable: I want to buy a heavy bag, but I live in an aprtment currently. If I buy one that has a sand, such as the one in the video, will that likely keep noise and vibrations to a minimuml is it a good choice of heavy bag for apartment living? Or would one of those stand-up punching dummies work better? Thx for any serious ansers.
check out the system from profightersports on you tube. its a nice system free movment around the bag. small foot print wont take up your whole apartment. easy to lower the bag for low kicks and change with one hand.

Very excellent. Have to say I hate Anything Everlast as they are bringing their crap in from China' I am in a possible patent infringement lawsuit with them as they have copied my Rafter Hanger. Im trying to make all mma fighters aware ofv these facts so they will buy USA made products. Dave
WORK ON YOUR TECHNIQUE AND FORM.only way you will ever progress. theres people out there just as fast if not faster and stronger then you, so it then comes down to ability, and you are just too wild right now
Good stuff! But that bag seems entirely too small for you, ur demolishing it! Im trying to get into mma myself, can you pls check out my heavy bag vids and give me any helpful insight? thanks!
looks intense can definately tell you do this daily / often..
I have an 80lb heavy bag I just started training on a few weeks ago..you said the bottom of the bag is supposed to be pretty stiff? my shins are aching so far from beginning to kick. I bought some thai shin guards to aid in the beginning process to get used to it,will obviously discard after a while. Great video.
I have a heavy bag in my basement; problem is, it makes a lot of noise upstairs when I hit it ... is there any easy/economical way to make it quieter?
hey man i just have a question, how do you work your lats? lat pull downs probably right? and a heavybag training routine would definitely build up some nice tight lats right? thanks
You should also mention to NOT take pictures while striking heavybags. Meaning, stopping after your last strike, as if your posing for a picture. Lots of people, since the bag doesn't punch back, after their last hit, they kinda hold their position for a second or even two. This is a bad habit and it WILL carry over in your actual fight if you keep doing it. Learn to move after your last hit, like Ramsey did in this video. Just thought you should mention that to your viewers.
my respect for u man u hit good ^^ fast move good good kicks!! good man!! keep doing it just add some jabs!! i like U man i mean i like the good job!! keep it UP man i dont do drugs!! jajaj!! I>M fucking skinny cause of that shit so ama star !!
And I'm not saying that just because. You're hitting the bag @ the highest point, thus the lightest and easiest to hit. Hit the bag @ the bottom (where the full mass/weight of the sand is) and MOVE that bag and then you'll be showing me some power.
There's no sand in Everlast bags, or any other well manufactured, or intelligently packed heavy bag. They are stuffed with tightly packed fabric pieces.
Thank you for your opinion. I will take that into consideration.
I thought this was excellent.. probably because I do almost the same routine, lol! Your transitions are very smooth. I saw absolutely nothing but excellent execution here. And the clown who said you weren't showing power, obviously wasn't at the other end of your punches! I will agree with another commenter here, though. There is NO way you don't do voice overs or something for a living! Thanks for the great post.
@balletman Bro you can put a fucking apple if it fits... lol if you buy them stuffed it comes with fabric pieces if not you can put old rags foam anything of such nature...
@mrallpurpose in all fairness, you right.. I have a bag like this and it is waaaay easier to hit at the top. hit at the middle or, if u really want to build power and toughen up your knuckles, hit the very bottom. It hurts but no pain, no gain.
@mrallpurpose he's right. i had my 1st bag(the same one as yours) at about the same height and learned to hit it from the top which is wrong. theres a video of many pac hitting a bag on youtube which propbery displays where you would want to strike it hand wise. since you throw low kick you could have it a bit lower but my point is that your punches will get a better action with it higher
cool, thanks, thats decent ,how long were you into teakwondo before switchin to mma ,oddly enough i wish i could test you on the trivial pursuit, as an outlet of useless knowledge i like to see whos got more free time or knowledge thatll never be used, aside from answering trivia and any pointers ?
thatd be cool i got a couple things from your vid to apply to my own training stuff, any ideas from your end? and if you can find people farting in each others face for sexual pleasure there has to be an online trivial pursuit
All good advice. I would like to add the bag should also be about 1-2 feet higher, you want the middle of the bag at chin level ideally. This is because the top of the bag becomes very soft, and the bottom is very hard, and hitting a pillow does no one any good.
you come with good advice on bag training, but dont take offence when i say you kick like a retarted flamingo.
try kicking on the balls of your feet, and postitioning your arms in a way that gives the roundhouse kick leverage.
ex. for right round house kick, make sure your on the balls of your left foot, tork your hips 90 degrees and jack your right arm backward, keep your left arm up across from you to guard just incase.
Me too. I use an Everlast stand. Unless you are working out in a gym, you have to live with the heavy bag being slighty low. Lots of people buy the Century Bob to go along with their heavy bag because it stands so tall.
the guy barely knows how to punch and instead of improving his skills, he tries to learn other people how to train... dude, first learn yourself how to fight before you give instructions..
lmao this dude really has no life....who brings a shitty bag to their apartment as an adult....go join a gym and see how you'll do there when u get ur ass beat by 5 foot mexican ez..
I have a heavy bag and filled it completely with sand. It's ok for my fists but after a couple rounds it bruised my shins. I'm only a beginner but is this the proper way to condition my shins or do I need to put softer materials in?
Keep working it......eventually you will have shins hard as steel.Tough shins & ankles (tissue & bone) give a huge advantage over an opponent in a match-i.e when they strike you w/ a sweep or kick, typically (w/good stance) it has no effect.
As far as freestanding bags go, I like the Wavemaster XXL, but I have broken a few of them where you screw the top part into the base. You can fix that problem if you drill a small hole in the big plastic screw at the base and fill it with something like silicon caulk so it can't break (that would take about 20 tubes, not very cheap, but it will increase the life of the bag)
ur turning your head so much,u dont have to be a master in order to see whats happening.keeping the eyes on your target should be a goal as long as u want to prevent some simultaneous shot
WHat kind of gloves are you using? Its it possible to use only hand wraps to train on bag? Like Everlast Evergel wraps, which look like mma gloves, but are actually wraps.
Wow your stamina is awesome! I have a Wavemaster in a little room so I can't hit it too hard:( Thanks for the advice and the great video! You're keeping all us trainees encouraged!
sometimes i take the bag to bed with me...and yes sometimes i even take it into the shitter so we can always be together...I dont know what I would do without my heavy bag...if my heavy bag ever leaves me I would problably kill myself...Excellent satire man this is one of the funniest videos i have ever seen...keep it up...
The heavy bag is good but I think your overexaggerating a bit. I love my heavy bag too but nothing beats some good padwork. Anyway I feel bad for this guys opponent.
serious respect right here... fast pace the whole way through...lots of people dont understand how much cardio that takes...and you got nice speed all the way
Personally, I think you should work with a bag close to your own weight. However, manufactured bags usually don't come over 120 lbs. I fight at 155 lbs, and a 100 lb bag works all right, but I still prefer heavier.
I've been making my own custom bags for the last few months, so I can make them as big as i want.
I try to get at least 3 days of auxiliary non-fight specific cardio training (30 minutes-1hr) per week. Not just running though- I also bike, swim, do aerobics classes (that's much tougher than it sounds) etc... I'd recommend at least 30 minutes of cardio training daily.
Also, striking and running use different muscle sets and burn energy differently. If you want to increase your endurance for striking, doing rounds with a heavy bag or Thai pads is one of the best ways. Running is supplemental.
I recently bought a 6' 150lb thai bag from title boxing. It's really nice, real leather, the works. I hang it so I can circle 360 degrees.
My question is, how can I practice kicking higher without pulling my groin? -.- i'm working on V sits and I stretch quite a bit a day but alas no progress. Any tips?
When you do static stretching (like a stradle/V-sit/split where you just hold the stretch) make sure you are warmed up first- to the point that you are sweating. Warm muscles stretch, cold muscles tear.
Also, try warming up with dynamic (moving) stretches- ax kick stretches, side kick stretches and back kick stretches. While you won't use those kicks much in MMA & kickboxing, the active range of motion those stretches offer is invaluable to increasing flexibility for kicking.
As far as conditioning goes, the most important thing is consistency. Like I say in the video, do at least 3 two minute rounds with the heavy bag every day. With 30 second rests between rounds, that's just 7.5 minutes out of your day. Fitness doesn't need to take a huge effort or a lot of time, but you need to do it consistently. I can't emphasize that enough.
For anyone knowledgeable: I want to buy a heavy bag, but I live in an aprtment currently. If I buy one that has a sand, such as the one in the video, will that likely keep noise and vibrations to a minimuml is it a good choice of heavy bag for apartment living? All good advice. I would like to add the bag should also be about 1-2 feet higher, you want the middle of the bag at chin level ideally. This is because the top of the bag becomes very soft, and the bottom is very hard, and hitting a pillow does no one any good.

In that case, unless you are short don't buy the Century bag stand. It won't go any higher than 7'.

sometimes i take the bag to bed with me...and yes sometimes i even take it into the shitter so we can always be together...I dont know what I would do without my heavy bag...if my heavy bag ever leaves me I would problably kill myself...Excellent satire man this is one of the funniest videos i have ever seen...keep it up...
mCmadley 3 years ago
The heavy bag is good but I think your overexaggerating a bit. I love my heavy bag too but nothing beats some good padwork. Anyway I feel bad for this guys opponent.
TripleNipple3 3 years ago
ok, thanks man, i chest bought a heavy bag and some of my friends tall me that i should use sawdust to fill it but i had my doubts. keep it up!
piesense 3 years ago
The best heavy bags are stuffed with tightly packed shredded fabric or rags. Saw dust or sand will harden too much over time.
balletman 3 years ago
those were my doubts, hehe, thanks for the answers dude!

piesense 3 years ago
It's just a standard Everlast bag filled with 100 lbs of tightly packed shredded fabric.

Check out the KSAFitness tip above to get a more in depth idea of how to train on a heavy bag.

Thank you.
I only have a standing bag though.
Will it work with that?
AAAhmed46 3 years ago
i weigh just over 19 stone and these bags just move about too much, is there any way of determining what weight bag i should go for?
bradzilaaaa 3 years ago
Personally, I think you should work with a bag close to your own weight. However, manufactured bags usually don't come over 120 lbs. I fight at 155 lbs, and a 100 lb bag works all right, but I still prefer heavier.
I've been making my own custom bags for the last few months, so I can make them as big as i want.
balletman 3 years ago
If you really want to practice footwork by moving around the bag you could get a standing heavy bag (one with a hard cover) and fill it with sand.

No one hits the bag like you because you are unique in all the world.
Let me know when that video goes up.

how many times a week do u run. becuz thought the whole video i notcied u didnt look tired at all
tipsodrowsy 3 years ago
I try to get at least 3 days of auxiliary non-fight specific cardio training (30 minutes-1hr) per week. Not just running though- I also bike, swim, do aerobics classes (that's much tougher than it sounds) etc... I'd recommend at least 30 minutes of cardio training daily.
Also, striking and running use different muscle sets and burn energy differently. If you want to increase your endurance for striking, doing rounds with a heavy bag or Thai pads is one of the best ways. Running is supplemental.

i wanna make a video just like this.
punching,kicking,clinching and knees all combined.

Any tips?
Flyup7 3 years ago
a bit of stretching everyday goes a long way
perhaps you're stretching only a few select areas
high kicks is not just flexibility, its also and angle you make with the standing foot, the pivot, as well as ur body motion. show ur high kick
LarBear22 3 years ago
When you do static stretching (like a stradle/V-sit/split where you just hold the stretch) make sure you are warmed up first- to the point that you are sweating. Warm muscles stretch, cold muscles tear.
Also, try warming up with dynamic (moving) stretches- ax kick stretches, side kick stretches and back kick stretches. While you won't use those kicks much in MMA & kickboxing, the active range of motion those stretches offer is invaluable to increasing flexibility for kicking.

techically ur really good
but what really amazied me was ur fitness and conditioning. Please tell me how u have achieved this level of conditioning.
emjaymoggs 3 years ago
Thanks.
I can't emphasize that enough.
balletman 3 years ago
consistancy. got it
