  • Does the ziptie still work as a thumb stud?

  • OMG how f'ed up is this? I have the exact same cheepo knife with a tanto tip. LOL. i just stumbled upon your vid looking for a faster deployment option and i was like hmmm, that grip seems familiar. LOL. GREAT vid and awesome mod dude

  • Here's how I found your video: I see the "4 a.m. 5000 knives for $30 show." Frost is the brand being sold. I Google "Frost Cutlery review,' and the first link is to a knife forum. One post had a link to this video and instructions to go straight to @8:45.

Please do an in depth video of Frost knives so kids know to avoid them. Teenagers buy a Frost knife somewhere, and think they're great. They don't know that a knife of such poor quality is actually a HUGE safety hazard.

  • i did this to my benchmade mini onslaught.

im pretty new to owning knives with opening holes/thumb studs, and im having a little trouble flicking open my knives quickly. any tips besides just practicing alot? i can flick open my mini onslaught, but not very quickly.

  • Hey cutlerylover! I was wondering where you found that folding knife? I feel silly for asking with such a knife but i have one that was given to me that is currently falling to pieces and needs to be replaced soon.

  • @whitemonk92 probably from knifecenter, but AGrussel, SMKW and yourcornerstore also sells them.

  • @xxkid123 strike that, i thought it was a kabar dozier folding hunter ( i would reccomend that) the knife here probably came from budk or smkw, which sells many cheapo bad knives, although smkw has better brands as well.

  • lol i get it, model pos

  • Me and my wallet thank you

  • Lol

  • Neat idea and an excellent video - many thanks for that! I do have to point out the irony of complaining about the quality and workmanship of a knife that is willingly being modded with a zip tie (although most cable ties are made in USA by Panduit or Thomas and Betts).

  • thanks a ton, Jeff.

  • i have the same knife in a tanto blade, still fully serated

  • this is pretty cool!

  • LOL THE KNIFE DIDNT EVEN MAKE THE VIDEO

  • Thanks for the great video, by the way!

  • HARD USE TEST!!!!!!!!!!!!! DESTRUUUUUUCTIOOOOONN!!!!!!!!111 OMFG!!!!!!!! I wish that someone taught me about good steel and American made knives when I was a sprout. Cheap Chinese Crap is the worst, huh?

  • Whats with the Cold Steel Voyager clone?

  • i know its a crap knife but that hurt to see it happen :(

  • Ooh, I can't wait to get my hands on a thumb-hole knife now!

  • I cut the shit outta myself doing this with my tenacious lol

  • I work at a sporting goods store and sell knives all day. I put this on my Buck Vantage Avid and its so cool, haha.

  • Thanks! good video!

  • "frost POS" lol very nice

  • @CUTLERYLOVER YOU SHOULD MAKE A VID ON HOW YOU TRADE ON BLADEFOURMS AND THE RULES AND REGS.

  • @corvettef50 Or you could take 5 minutes to read the FAQ section.

  • ha! i've been doing this to my Spyderco knives, and my 5.11 Karambit. in fact, i think i posted pics of my knives on PAFOA.ORG awhile back. i call it the "ghetto wave". :P

  • i love my ak 47 from cs

  • wow what a crappy knife,i must try that mod on my spydercos

  • I appluad your destruction of that cheap piece of shit, now, I wonder if I can wave something else, oh, if the knife doesn't have a whole just drill one out

  • Hear me out. You have the sharpest knives i have ever seen yet you still have saftey scissors?

  • @ieatwithjesus they are ems shears, not safety scissors...I use them cause they cut through stuff really easily I have a video of me usign them to cut through a penny with ease...

  • @ieatwithjesus YEAH DUMB ASS

  • thanks jeff

    worked great on my tenacious

  • i did that to my endura 4 which didnt have the wave on it and i did it to my bulldog magnum by boker it works great thanks jeff

  • Frost POS sounds like a real knife LOL

  • pos = Piece of shit? :P

    great video jeff ;)

  • Interesting thought about having a pants-friendly version, but unless you NEED to deploy it in a hurry in a self-defense manner, the knife could be deployed without using the wave feature at all - I own an Emerson Commander and I usually deploy the blade with the thumb disk rather than to use the wave.

  • it's better to break it as you did, rather than having it break on someone's ribs ;-)

  • I just did this to my frost tactical scorpion and I have to say I'm very happy with it thank you cutlerylover for posting this ^_^

  • i tried this on my delica and the zip tie just slides farther down the hole :(

  • would that work in a spyderco tenacious g-10?

  • @nightwalker2830 Fuck yeah!

  • hey man awesome video i left you a comment some months ago flicking you some shit about your review on the pocket bushman. i love that knife because money is key point when buying anything. i have sense watched many of your videos and am now a subscriber

  • Ever since i got my delica i have had it set up for left hand carry so it opens in reverse grip and it works great

  • Awesome video Jeff, as soon as I watched it I tried it with my Spyderco Tenacious and it worked perfectly

    5/5

  • Thank you, I was just about to buy a wave...

  • i did that with my griptilian i still prefer my kershaw tyrade

  • I have a junky old ozark trail. I think I'm going to rip the peg out of it, and see if I can do this. I might have to take the pocket clip off and reverse it somehow. Any easy way to do that?

  • wow a pile of poo,

  • a lot of people, mostly people who really like knives, even if they cant afford it they find a way to amke it happen, byt saving up or selling other stuff...serious knife collectors easily drop $500-$1000 PER knife sometimes.if your into the custom knife scene...I woudl say the average knife hobbyist spends about $50 or so on knew knives regularey...

  • @cutlerylover oh i know man i love knives myself, i dont have many knives but i am a lover of blades. I however could never bring myself to spend $500 on a blade. A gun yes but not steel.

  • @cutlerylover yeah thats about what i pay 50, my dad got me a benchmade 940 for about 150...im looking to get a nice fixed for 250

  • @cutlerylover I have a Sebenza 21 Enigma i worked extremely hard to get.

  • @gimmethatglock I use/abuse and carry a $680 custom knife every day.

  • 5 Stars for Breaking that junk.

    Nice tips...

  • Oh that is beautiful. Hadn't thought of that, and I've got ties! Win! ;-)

  • i've dremeled a notch into a knife i had years ago, bought a ti-lite and stopped having that issue haha

  • wow that is a crappy knife...

  • Where can I find this "POS" model that you speak of?

  • @ThePsychoticLamp you know what POS stands for right? it stands for piece of shit

  • @masonrox2547 Do you know what dramatic irony means? It means that i wasn't actually serious.

  • @ThePsychoticLamp dude shut the fuck up, obliviously you were using sarcasm as was I.

  • If you want to salvage that blade, just use it as a spear tip. I hate to see you just toss it out. You may like to use it for that just for the cool factor, not sure, just an idea. I hate to see you waste a knife just to show people that it's junk, especially since it was usable.

  • Now you can make a short neck knife with the blade... ahaha

  • wow..a cheap k, with a hole and tipupcarry opts, zip tie...something else?lol

  • Wow cool.

  • pretty sure i will be wearing out my pants with this!

  • 2:37 thats what he said!

  • Nice video Jeff! LIke it.

  • Cool!

  • really as far as wearing dress pants or a suit & tie you wouldnt need to be using the wave unless it was life or death. if you need to cut a box open use your thumb to open. if your being attacked then use the wave and who cares about the dress pants

  • that's awesome!!

  • Lol i felt a pain in my heart when u broke that knife, don't know why xD

    Nice vid

  • I love your videos. also no offense but you kinda talk too much

  • This is an awesome video. I use the zip tie method on some of the 5.11 knives with large holes. I usually use more than one ziptie to prevent the zipties from sliding up and down over time.

Another thing I do is take a bit of sandpaper and smooth down the edge of the ziptie. In doing that, it reduces the chances of you ripping your pockets prematurely or accidently cutting your flesh with the sharp ziptie.

    Again, great vid.

  • @hannism1 maybe a guy could melt the zip tie instead of sanding it, that would also make it smoother. You would have to do it where you had plenty of ventilation to insure that you don't asphyxiate yourself...but it might be another option.

  • hay man sand me your POS knife LOL

  • hay man that is a big POS!

  • Good idea. "Model POS" was worth the whole video. lol.

  • model p.o.s.!!

  • just did this to my BM Pika II. works pretty well.

  • I LIKE that idea :-))

  • your a cool dude lol poor knife and bye bye knife

  • I wouldn't say it's called Wave unless the feature is of the same kind as the Emerson Wave, where the shape resembles a wave. Spyderco adopted this design into the Endura and Delica, but Cold steel knives have their own "pocket-snag" designs.

  • cool vid i love p o s knives lol

  • Jeff, don't through that blade away...you can make something else out of it. Spear, neck knife, baonet, or maybe carve some new handles out of wood.

  • yay walmart .97 cent knife!

  • Frost is crap. It is like buying a knife out of the bumble gum machine.

  • The "special forces" CRKT models with the "double flipper" design can be waved too, decent money to quality ration (not emerson by any stretch, but hey, different income bracket).

  • great vid

  • lol dude any chance i can get that cheap blade lol ill find a use for it

  • Byrd knives take a wave feature very nicely. If you have a dremel you can spend 5 minutes to make a $15 CaraCara into a $60 waved endura.

Or just throw a ziptie on it.

  • @jmacksamie I have done a couple G10 Cara Caras. I have a belt grinder and I'll wave just about anything!

  • I have 3 knives of the Spyderco Byrd collection. And they are really cheap so i tried that and it works very good, actually cought with a high speed momentum recorder ( or what ever its called my dad uses it for work ) and found out that im 0.44 seconds faster then my quik draw... i'll make a tutorial soon on the quik draw with my Byrd flight G10

  • is this the same as a frost mora is it the same company?

  • @chrissept21 nope. they don't make folders.

  • cool dude.... i had a frost gave to me i got it out of the box and the lock didn't even work....

  • Wow, that is a rather pathetic knife, lol. I would try to do something with the blade, even though I am sure the steel would not hold an eadge cutting a tomato, but I hate throwing stuff out, even junk.

  • hey jeff, ive actually taken a knife with a longer heighth, not length and ive basically cut a ridge in the knife to make it a wave feature, i mean obviously it takes a little time but it works quite well, i just took a rougher metal file i believe on a leatherman multitool and filed a big indention on the back of the blade and the took a finer file to remove the sharp edges, and it works great never had a problem, just thought id let ya kno

  • I've got a whole bag of Frost blades that I was hoping you would be interested in! ;^P

  • you can still use the blade

  • Hey man i know its early but dont forget about those twinkies

  • COOL I just did it on BM 525 presidio!

  • thats mad cool, i was confused at what you were doing at first

  • lol u didnt lose much... its a pos anyways

  • Man cutlery lover. You really ripped on that knife. lol. It was a pretty funny video. POS lol

  • don't bring a frost to a zip-tie fight

  • What the fuck?! who the hell thought Emerson stole from Cold Steel?

Cold Steel is like the king of using other knifemakers features.

  • lol we are watching frosts stock plumit hahaha

  • DESTRUCTION!

  • Thats funny model POS XD anyway thanks Jeff

  • what did you say at 9:17? why you dont what?

  • Show Frost cutlery knives

  • show frost knives. i'm guesing thats a brand, particularly the one that broke

  • @philsaddiction why I dont show frost knives...

  • nice, thanks for sharing and breaking!!!

  • You just showed why one should not poor man's wave a knife.

I tried the zip tie mod as well on a spyderco persistence and it just puts way too much stress on the pivot. The blade now has a slight up and down movement when open.

That frost shows the same thing too. Way too much stress on that.

    I don't recommend it.

  • Comment removed

  • by any chance is that the 99 cent knife you get from walmart?

  • i don't think it is

  • last night at the mall i had a waved delica 4 and someone pulled the knife out of my pocket, my reflex caused me to grab the knife (open) and i cut my hand

  • your to cool TY bud

  • My comment was the reason he made this. I feel pretty beast.

  • Lol. "Model POS" Idk if anyone else caught that, but I did laugh out loud pretty hard.

  • :) that was a good one, but I feel like it went over a lot of heads lol.

My Balisong fix is getting serious. I'm shaking for more tricks Jeff :p

  • Haha, yes, that was good.

  • I got some knives that worth breaking, maybe i'll do that on film to!

Ow btw i had a question on your crkt drifter but u didn't answer, so maybe now?

Here it goes, is a drifter an easy cary and can u hide it under your t-shirt if u carry it on your belt.

Because in Belgium we can't wear a visible knife only if it would be in a sheet but i don't like that.

Would love the answer and thanks for all the awesome movies!

  • yes, it is easy. I bought one, the G 10 model, and its awesome. buy one.

  • @oobligah thanks!

  • Thanks for busting your knife! Shows you get what you pay for.

  • get you a stick and some tape and you'll have a nice spear? A cheap one I guess. I have no idea what you would use it for though.

  • frost knives do suck but i use a knife everyday at work and beat them up pretty good, so i like using frost knives cause their cheap and disposable. just got tired of messing up expensive knives. i do buy in large quantity so WHEN it brakes i grab another one.

  • lol, el cheapo! awesome knife destroying skills! nice video jeff!!

  • You keep saying "It's a piece of crap". Walmart sells them for $1.50 each. Walmar probably pays the Chinese factory for 50 cents a piece. What do you expect?

  • I expect a piece of crap, thats why I am saying its a peice of crap, sure you cant expect a lot from a $1 knife, HOWEVER there are $5 knives that cna last through a decent beating...only problem with those types of cheap knives with decent build is the poor heat treat and constant dull blade...

  • @cutlerylover Good vid! Thanks for the trick.

  • where did you get that model?

  • Looks like a fun mod....thanks for the cool vid

Im gonna try it on my spydy

  • Sweeet. Works well with Dozier Folding Hunter with thumb notch. Not so crappy after all...

  • Haha, and THAT is why you should always go for a completely metal knife, handle and all. I paid $10 USD for my counterfeit AFD Boker on a Chinese website, and it's pure metal. Hasn't let me down once.

  • I put this on my spyderco karambit a couple weeks ago

  • rough on shirts if your not careful btw got a cut with my tenacious got a 12-16 in gash in my shirt just Fing around while sitting down

  • i did this to my second tenacious(lost the first) love the knife btw but i did it with a big ol zip ti then rounded where i cut it with a leatherman and voila had it fo like 3-5 months and no probs i like carying it in my back pocket

  • Moral of the story is don't buy Frost knives. the only frost knife I ever bought was made and bought for throwing only and still only lasted a couple weeks before the tip busted off.

  • outstanding

  • Model POS baby! :D

  • im about to do that with my delica

  • as soon as i heard "not super pants friendly" i knew this video was going to be good :D

  • haha. "the frost p.o.s. model, at a store near you". thats awesome but no thanks. I cant believe how crappy that is. i bought a cheap 5 dollar knife a couple years ago when i worked for a landscaping company since i had to cut through root balls and dirt and i didn't wanna ruin a good knife. That thing actually stood up pretty well and i abused the crap out of it, and i still have it today. still truckin along but has a definate quality difference. Awesome video man. thanks

  • sweet dude thanks love your emersion review very quality jeff thank you

  • OK THIS was a great pass along! There are lots of guys that could use this.

  • You didn't break that knife; that knife broke itself. You just made it a useful lesson! Anyways, this was a really helpful vid. The Tenacious is definitely getting a zip tie now!

  • It would be a really awesome way to end all of your videos to snap whatever it was you were reviewing in half :)

  • pretty sweet..

  • The purpose of the karambit is to open in reverse grip

  • Geez, what a pos knife. I really hate that Knife Show you mentioned, as I hate all purveyors of useless crap.

It (The Knife Show) was used rather artistically in an episode of AMC's Breaking Bad. A little kid is living in a hellish, crack-house type bungelow with his meth-head parents and is forced to watch the only channel the TV receives, that annoying Frost Cutlery show.

    The horror, the horror.

  • put a little bit of electrical tape around the wave hook so it will not be sharp enough to cut suit pants

  • your such a beast! you can break a knife!!!!

  • tune in next week when I snap my glock in half! lol...

  • @cutlerylover that shouldnt be hard, the

the Glock is a total piece of shit!

The 1911 is the best pistol ever made!

  • haha

  • RlP cheapo knife (2010-2010)

  • lol, more like 1997-2010

  • I did that to my Buck Vantage Pro

  • wow jeff. I have a maxam knife that looks almost just like that knife as far as handle goes looks almost exactly the same mine is a tanto blade though. i just zipped tied it and cut my finger with my skyline cutting the rest of the tie off. thanks alot dude!

  • I bet that the wave feature would make a knife illegal here in MA. The law says that you cannot carry a knife that can be drawn in a locked position...so i guess that includes wave knives :-(

  • Thank you breaking that knife. The world is a better place because of it. :)

  • what forums? where can i find the ever elusive "forum" ?

  • bladeforums dot (com) literally the biggest online forum for knife talk with the most traffic...Last I check a few years back something like 60,000 members...

  • hahah model "pos"

  • *broke

  • I feel like I should point out that for this to work long term you need to have really good durable zip ties. If you get cheapo ones they don't hold as strongly and after deploying it a few times the zip tie will actually back out and come off. Either way, this a really fast and fun way to deploy your knife.
