I would have to agree with Chris about the use of chemicals. Chemicals are for pussies. If you're going to use chemicals on your hide, you might as well just save yourself all of the work and buy the finished product from Trapper John.
I thought the potassium hydroxide was to slip the hair not for brain absorbsion. I think you supposed to neutralize is before braining with either an acid or by deluting it in a lot of fresh water like a stream. Do I have that wrong?
Deer do not actually have fur. They have hair. Typically the hair is not as desirable because it is so course. If you want a fur skin i advice that you try some other sort of animal skin like beaver, coyote, fox, or skunk.
As soon as you started talking about using chemicals I stopped watching.

Isn't that basically lye? The natives used wood ashes which in turn were chemicals for the bucking process... Am I wrong?
