Sadly, the aforementioned superfluous rhetorical device dilutes the argument, and ad hominem attacks on those who disagree with you, such as "get over it, because it's dumb", make this really annoying to listen to, despite your otherwise well-reasoned arguments.

Laura, I think you mean "dilute" rather than "distill." To distill our culture would mean to purify it. I think the argument is that multiculturalism dilutes the unique American identity. Although, I agree with you that there is no distinct American identity or culture.

QUESTION? hw did u get interested in taking spanish at school? and becoming a language major? my friend Jack is the SAME way! he'll only let me speak to him in spanish(im spanish, Guatemala) and only lsitens to spanish music in his ipod.

yeah the language thing is annoying. i speak chinese, where i live like half the population speaks chinese and there are chinese stores, etc everywhere. i hope no one finds anything wrong with them because i love them..

Estoy de acuerdo. Hay mucha gente quepiensa que los que hablamos español DEBEMOS aprender y hablar Inglés, pero a la misma vez piensan que ellos no tienen necesidad de aprender español o que hacerlo seria someterse a una presion de grupo. Vivo en Puerto Rico y a veces veo lo contrario. Mucha gente no quiere aprender ingles. =/ And the cycle never ends ... I choose to communicate with people, in whichever language I can. Good rant Laura! I have to say I spent most of my life in Yuma, AZ which is not even two minutes from the U.S./Mexico border. For the most part I never paid any mind to having signs in both English and Spanish. I traveled frequently and when I was in other countries they always had signs in there spoken language as well as in English. I for a long time thought this was the norm. I to cannot see why people have a problem with this. Love the video. Finals :( had mine this week, good luck! DFTBA
