In the UK, the speaker refers to people by their names or as the right honorable, why do the ones in Australia refer to them from their constituencies. The Guy must have to learn a lot in his job, to do that.
Order, order, order...LOL...I like Austrlaian government debating. I have a great laugh out of this. It is like I'm watching a comedy when two parties don't get along and are fighting. :)
This is very weird. I don't like John Howard. I don't support his government. But somehow, I find him cool. I mean...I like him. How weird is that? I don't find him attractive in anyway...no thanks. But his humours apperance makes me attracted to him. o_O?
Young David Hawker is a silver spoon pratt , His old man was one cool dude , but he succumed to alcohol . Had an amazing gun collection and very generous to our family .(gave us a wolfhound)
jesus christ is this for real? i'm from america and i'm use to silent politicians even thought they disagree. this is irritating and hilarious at the same time lol
he is a selfish not willing talk to any one unless you are in a suit doesn't matter what you wear but what you do, he was quite happy to talk to me when I was wearing a camera around my neck
Pft. It's like half of the guys job. And I suspect that the seating plan incorporates it. And given that they're the same guys sitting in probably similar places for 4 years on end, for like 4 hours a day, you'd probably learn.
I agree with you. Aussie parliament is even worse. You ask one question and the Minister can respond endlessly without time constraints. It is very bloody in Canberra
Complete lack of authority shown by the speaker here. House of commons here in the UK is as bad, but heaven help any MP who catches the eye of Michael Martin for such repetitious rule breaking. Should have suspended the sitting. And why does the Treasurer continue to speak when the Speaker is calling for order? The whole point of a call to order is to let them all shut up and then continue?
No, here when the Speaker says order it means for silence so that the minister can be heard. If the Speaker stands, it means that all members must be seated and remain silent.
About time the whips spoke to their caucuses about obeying standing orders...that interjections should be rare and reasonable and that points of order are the correct way to derail a speaker.
I know eh, but the Canadian House of Commons remains silent whilst someone is speaking. The only time they heckle is after they finish, or give an inappropriate answer to a question.
Ditto the British Parliament. There is robust debate and a good level of banter, but most speeches are listened to, and certainly the Speaker is heard in silence.
The Speaker in this film is totally ineffectual, and I would agree with other comments that his continuing snapping from the chair, unheeded by the Members, just makes parliamentary debate impossible and makes him look pathetic. He should have stopped the debate.
@CanberraUser Funny, I think this bloke was better than the new guy. He has a general better prescense with the House, unlike the new bloke who always seems to just be slouching during Parliamentry Business. In the Uk, weve got a new speaker whose just a twat, and cant really control the House.
i laugh my ass of when i watch politics complain well heck thats there job complain u may disagree with this comment but if we didnt have them we would be well god only knows where but when could they just accept what they have. i probebly dont know what im talking about but im trying to put out a point.
Don't delude yourself that only the ALP ignores the governments answers - its the same with every opposition, Liberal or Labor. Question Time isn't for answers, its to embarrass the government and score points - so why bother listening to their response?
It's not a delusion. The speaker's bias is overt and obscene. I've observed the favorable manner in which the speaker deals with the Government. One such example would be getting the Prime Minister to actually answer a question. The PM manipulates language to appear as if he is answering a question rather than spouting rhetoric, and the speaker will never and has never (to the best of my knowledge) forced a concise and specific response to the question asked.
In the UK, the speaker refers to people by their names or as the right honorable, why do the ones in Australia refer to them from their constituencies. The Guy must have to learn a lot in his job, to do that.
