My mother's family came from Salford, I think all but one of my grandmother's siblings emigrated to the States or Canada; only Great Uncle Charlie (Pritchard) and his wife Esther (Finch) remained in Salford, I probably have second cousins there. They lived around St. Bart's area. Probably others too.
I worked at w and g at this site.it was my first job in 1984 and I hated it.my mother used to work there also and my dad used to work at the bus depot.fredrick road used to employ a lot of people in those days
Wonderful Stella! I lived in Salford until 1974. I went back 3 years ago to have a look round and I was shocked at how run-down and shambolic it all looked. Very sad.
It's a hell of a place to live now! No, it's just hell. No sense of community, stabbings, shootings, demolition again and the worse people you would ever wish to encounter.
What a marvelous trip down memory lane. Both my mother and father worked at W&G's, my father also worked at frederick rd bus depot and my mother: at mandleburg's. We lived on primrose st. - a stone's throw away; and at the top of which was Bellamy's De-lite, the crumpet and potato cake makers.
I remember it well. I lived in one of the poets streets across from the old dog track, at the back of jacks chippy. It's all gone now, i'd love to go back!

I work at the Mandleberg site, and we are still fabric coaters although we are owned by the Vita group.
