  • ah so much work, I think I'll stick to freshwater aquariums for a little longer.

  • how big is the tnak

  • I have model one and it works wonders on my 56 gallon reef tank

  • @mexicanamerican21 Please contact your local dealer and/or check out online stores. They will be able to quote you a price for the model Proflex sump you are looking for.

  • @AqueonProducts how much

  • Hi I'm very interested in purchasing model 1 could you please give me the exact measurements length/width/height as different websites have slightly different measurements, I am limited with space so need the exact measurements, thank you

  • Ahhhhhhhh 80's School video series lol

  • I still don't quite understand how the filter socks work for this. Normally the return water will go direct into the socks to filter away the detritus etc.

  • Pvc pipe......

  • Having the return pump in the same chamber as the skimmer is a BAD idea.. no matter HOW hard you try your GOING to suck micro bubbles into your Display Tank..

    Micro Bubbles = BAD

  • @mr22turbo There are many options for skimmer placement in the Pro Flex to avoid microbubbles. If a skimmer has an outlet tube (like the Coralife skimmers) there is a large window in the wall between chambers 2 and 3 that the outlet can be directed into chamber 2 where the microbubbles can be diffused either by natural degassing or be screened out by having to go through the sump sponge located at the bottom of the chamber.

  • Damn iPad... The wall will stay in place once water is in symp.

  • The adjustable wall doesn't stay in place when sump is dry. Thee

  • And how much are these? I might need one for a 29 gallon tank, Neat video though.

  • all i gotta say is if newyorksteelo uses it then you use it :D

  • it may be me but whats the point of the filter bags when the water from the outlet is coming in to chamber 1 and then exiting through the adjustable slot, therefor bypassing the sock filters ?

  • @katiedave1098 the water goes into the bubble diffuser- the water will fill this area then drain into the sock filters

  • There must be a reason for this design. The skimmer must not remove all the valuable particles/minerals/etc. from the water before returning it to the main tank?!

  • I recently sent an inquiry about a sump through your website support section but did not get any response, so I'll try here. I'd like to get 1 of your sumps, but I need it to fit in my stand so I'll need 1 customized a little. Can you customize 1 for me? It'll just be about 2.5" shorter in width. Everything else can be the same.

  • @Kreed101 Please call our customer service number on our website and ask for our Tech Dept.

  • i bought the model 3 and i put sand in the refugium area and my sand went threw the clear retaining wall and to chamber 3 .any suggestions ?

  • @DRFATAL612 from your description above, it doesn't sound like you had the water retaining wall in place. This prevents anything in the refugium area from bleeding thru to the sponge chamber.

  • i'll give you an inlet pipe all right. (yes i know i'm five. SO)

  • @aqueonproducts oops.... If u put skimmer in 3rd section, won't the water level change constantly, and not allow your skimmer to function properly?

  • @aqueonproducts if you set up the sump as a refugium, and a skimmer

  • Where can I buy more filter socks for the proflex model 1?

  • Does the 11" Coralife Mini Aqualight fit on the ProFlex 4? Also, is this the best refugium light to buy? I heard that blue light does nothing for a refugium and that you should have a 65watt white light.

    -Thanks

  • @Springs24

The Coralife Mini Aqualight fits all sizes of Pro Flex filters. For the models 2 and 4 it turns 90 degrees so the lamps run parallel to the long side of the sump. Chlorophyll a (found in all plants and algae) absorbs most of its energy in the blue wavelengths produced by the actinic light and there is no scientific truth that it does not work for a refugium. The downside is that it is not visibly bright to the human eye so many people think it “is not bright enough for plants”.

  • The truth is that the ability to keep photosynthetic corals and algae would not be what it is today without the advances brought about by actinic lighting. There is actually more energy produced in wavelengths that chlorophyll A can absorb in an actinic lamp than any daylight lamp out there. If you wish to have a visibly brighter look to the refugium and still grow macroalgae I would suggest replacing the actinic with a 10K or 6700K lamp.

  • These still have a good amount of blue light energy because they use actinic phosphors, but look a lot brighter to the human eye because of the green and red wavelengths they also include.

  • I got one.To me ,its freakin awesome.

  • the first filter is weird.....all the small particles get trapped on the outside of the bag?? so when you chagne them debri gets all in the sump?? WTF

  • @jdmk20aek

When you change the bags you will get some debris that is released but the majority of it still is in the bag. This is normal with any mechanical filter media.

  • @AqueonProducts im not trying to bash your product, but thats just a poor design....the water should be dumped INTO the bag, it would be overall more effective. I will say i do like how the refugium walls are blacked out...to keep algae from growing beyond where it should.

  • Yeah well the skimmer is not suppose to be after the refugium because all of that microfauna you mentioned is going to get knocked out by the skimmer

  • @MHx14

Please see/expand the description above for response.

  • @AqueonProducts thanks

  • were do you go to get this

  • Visit our website's Store Locator for a list of retailers in your area that carry Aqueon products.

  • @AqueonProducts would it be a good idea to put my mag 7 skimmer pump in the first chamber of my model 2 refugium?

  • @funkmaster100

If your skimmer allows the pump to be some distance from the skimmer then it is perfectly fine to put it there. Although truthfully there is little to no benefit in doing this. Any dissolved proteins in the water in the first chamber are still going to be dissolved in chambers 2 and 3. If using the unit as a refugium there will actually be more dissolved proteins in the water in chamber 3 due to organic chemicals released by the algae in the refugium.

  • @AqueonProducts

so that doesn't make sense to have the skimmer after the refugium then. The skimmer is just removing refugium particles really. Is there a way to redesign it to have skimmer in chamber 2 / Refugium in chamber 3?...........oh, wait a minute, then you'd have to run a skimmer pump AND a seperate return pump in the refugium area.......that sucks......I'mm trying to minimize multiple pumps / heat exchange in my system.

  • @Kreed101 The design is intended to house prolific micro & macro fauna for nutrient export (nitrates, phosphates, etc.) what the refugium does not utilize, the skimmer will get a chance to pull out. Most refugiums have water moving thru it fast enough that the difference in chamber 2 vs 3 is negligible. If you could measure the nutrient load in chamber 3, it would be virtually the same as chamber 2. This is due to the rapid mixing and circulation of water in the entire system.

  • @oscar2hot4u i got one today at my LFS it's a good sump but i rushed the setup put my livesand in and went to put it under my 75 gallon and it would not fit so its hanging out of the front of the stand just like the one that i got it as a replacement for bummer i should have went with the model 2 instead of model 3 hopefully oneday i'll drain my tank and try to put it in from the top of the stand instead of through the front

  • @funkmaster100 yeah i hear you i bought a 20 gallon tank for my sump then i realized i measured wrong so i just used a 10 gallon i had around the house it was disapointing but the 10 works just fine

  • @frogmaster421 would you believe i actually returned the model 3 for the model 2 and it still didn't fit under the tank i had to drain the tank lift it remove center brace from the stand to lower the refugium in i should have kept the model 3 for all the work

  • wow she makes it sound soooo easy...
