question can you get after effects using wine or a variant of wine and any games as well. building my own pc and would love to cut windows out of that price and get something like an ssd aha

People hate linux for a few reasons:

1. NO BIG GAMES

2. Its new

3. they dont wanna use it

4. Microsoft has trained everyone to use windows

5. They are not used to it

Linux Distributions come in all flavors to suit to u and the needs of the computer so that it works for u, there is only ONE windows (even tho 7, Vista, and XP, they all work the same basically) and only one OSX

Yes, this is the BIG limit of Linux. Adobe should support linux!

By the way I'm running AE and the Adobe Production Suite on Windows XP virtualized on my linux machine (thru Sun Virtualbox). I'm able to work in 720p with a dual core notebook.

why not just install xp then? haha. I'm sure some things aren't being emulated to there full capacity, not to mention running linux (even though it doesnt take much) is taking some process power away.

I know that Linux is the name of the kernel made by Linus. But the whole system use a lot of GNU software that is very important for all the operative system (bash, gcc, gtk, glibc, etc...).

For those reasons a lot of gurus and purists are saying that is more correct "GNU\Linux" instead of "Linux".

But this is only a refinement. Linux is correct, compact and more immediate.
