  • Wakemen's son, I think?

  • who is on keyboards, is it wakeman ?

  • I actually think Howe's solo in this version is much better than in previous one... of course, I prefer Rabin's solo in the studio version, but I think this is Howe's best solo in this song.

  • Needs more cowbell

  • holy shit i think steve did a better job at that solo than trevor

  • Dude sounds a crapload like Anderson....if the camera hadn't zoomed in I wouldn't know it was Benoit, not Anderson.

  • @TheEvilMonarch I echo the question that stevezane poses. In terms of music theory, techinique, composition, tone, expression and phrasing, what makes Howe's playing so much more interesting and complex than Rabins?

Also, who says that complex music is better? Music is an art form and the only requirement that good music has to meet is that it communicates with the listener and the listener can relate to and enjoy the message.

  • @neechee5150 If you have to ask, you'll never know. His performance here is very average, but if you listen to Howe at his best on something like Gates of Delirium or Turn of the Century and you seriously can't appreciate his artistry by just listening to it, then this sort of music is probably not for you. Bieber and Lady Gaga await...

  • @PutItAway101 Ok then I pose the same questions that stevezane and I asked TEM as you profess to have such a deep knowlege and understanding of playing guitar, music theory, composition, generes and styles of music ect.

Until you can tell me the key, time signatures of above mentioned songs as well as the predominant scales or modes that any guitar solos are based upon along with any significant creative chord voicings and pertinent nuances of styles, your comments are just ad hominem

  • @PutItAway101 Howe's performance on this video is below average. Howe is using the wrong chord voicings. Howe's guitar sounds are sub-par and innefective. Howe is taking a day off by missing key parts and phrases that he should cover out of respect for the quality of the bands performance and production. Last but not least, Howe is playing with the entusiasm of someone getting a barium enema.

Howe is a great musican dont get me wrong, but the audience deserves better than this.

  • @TheEvilMonarch Lets see what you realy understand anbout guitar playing...why does Steve Howe have more substance in his guitar playing than Trevor? and speak to me as a musicians ok?

  • Comment removed

  • @TheEvilMonarch that;s your perception bro..it was not cheesy for me and shit load of Yes fan. ..could it be that you're stuck in one style?Did you know that 90125 was the most sold album..not bad for cheese

  • aweful guitarsound from Howe here.no power at all did he forgot to turn on the volume from the guitar amplifier?hahahaaaa i could get more power out from my 30watt Marshall combo set.hhaaaaaaa

  • @lovemaker1972 Howe often does not use the correct chord voicings when he plays Owner of Loney Heart, and Howe's sound on his Line 6 rig for OLH is below par for sure.

  • @TheEvilMonarch "rabin didn't really achieve that with his time in Yes" there are a good many accomplished musicans who would disagree with you. What makes music complex? Interesting is such a subjective term that it nearly has no meaning in discussing the quality of a given piece of music. Who determines what is interesting?

There are solos that Rabin has played in Yes mateiral that Howe in his prime could not play if he tried. However, both guitarists are extrordinary musicans.

  • @neechee5150

"There are solos that Rabin has played in Yes mateiral that Howe in his prime could not play if he tried."

    This is not true.

    "both guitarists are extrordinary musicans"

    But this is.

  • @TheEvilMonarch It must make you feel smart, important or some kind of false sense of superiority to use names and labels. It makes no difference whether I am American, Russian, or Indian, & your use of this type of smear speaks for itself.

Rabin is an extremly talented musican & composer. He has multiple Grammys. He was a session musican at the age 16. Rabin works with musicans of the caliber of Wakeman, Simon Phillips, Vinnie C, & Jack Bruce.

Howe created chesy music for Asia

  • @neechee5150 have you noticed that it is only the Steve Howe fans that hates Rabin and not rabin's fan that hates Howe..lol I find people tick when thay say rabin is not even close to howe when he has more styles and technique in his pocket..at least we see it.

  • @stevezane Excellent point!

  • @TheEvilMonarch Iam impressed by your adept use of Argument ad Hominem. You can either like or dislike Rabin's playing, but if you want to try to make the case that Rabin is not an extrodinarily gifted musican and composer, give it your best shot.

To even hint at the claim that Howe has not benefited (financially and increased fan base) from what Rabin did for Yes and making them releavant again on the international music scene is absurd and divorced from reality and truth.

  • @TheEvilMonarch Wow-I bet all the youtube viewers are impressed with your command of the English langauge. Oddly enough you dont even address the main point of my post which is this Howe takes a day off and does not attempt to get a good sound and to play the trademark riffs and phrases.

Also, there is no denying that many people would not know who Steve Howe is if it were not for where Rabin took Yes. Those fans that were attracted to Yes because of 90125 are paying Howe's salary

  • Howe always fucks this one up. Trevor please come back.b

  • God this is so lifeless. Benoit pulls off the vocals, but Chris sounds a little tired. The signature key stab (orch 5, we miss you) is pathetic. I love YES but this blows.

  • Amazing? Amazing how many notes he fails to hit!

  • @BenoitDavidBlows

Amazing that you hate something so much that it causes you to create a YouTube profile under that name. How about channeling your "hate" into something positive. I seriously doubt you have the talent to sing anywhere close to his ability, and if you do - put up a video of you doing it better!

  • Comment removed

  • What a lame performance - if you listen carefully, Howe can't even tune his guitar...

  • Yeah! More Cowbell!!

  • COWBELL FOR THE EPIC WIN

  • Wow, is this David Benoit??????? amazing

  • aaaaiiiaiiiiaiii :]

  • I admire too much to david and arnel pineda the twice have the fortune to be the vocals of theyre favorite band david with yes and pineda with journey

  • @darwyn65

And they both do it really good :D

  • For all of you who gave bad comments for Benoit David, he's doing a great job. And if you can't appreciate it, would any of you do better. This is big for him, so give him a break. At least he's singing with an amazing band, WHAT ARE YOU DOING???

  • Please bring Jon back!

  • I want Jon and Trevor!!!

  • @MrDunkJunk

Jon, Rick, and Trevor.....A.W.R.....Last word.......Rick...."putting a band together", Jon....Recording new material to perform...if it goes well for a month, we will also do shows in europe..Will do 80s, Yes and some "Talk", their new songs, and some Yes Classics...have been talking about this since feb 10, so hope it's soon. Jon said either this summer or summer of 2012!! Thats YES!!

  • I just miss Jon. Without him this is not Yes...

  • @marcol68 But it's three quarters of the fucking band! Jeez, you can't please some people.

  • Saw them at the Greek; I couldn't convince my date that it wasn't the original singer.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheNucleusAlbum1968

    So jealous...

  • Benoit David isn't exactly a frontman, isn't it ? Good vocal performance on this song, though. Steve Howe' solo is different from Trevor Rabin's one, but still good.

  • Steve Howe does it his own way, a little more 'rock'n'roll' . I like it. Btw I think TR should really be the lead singer and gtr for Yes these days.

  • They found someone who could sing like Anderson, and that takes some doing.

That he hasn't the same charisma - so what. I went there for the music, and I loved it.

  • Amazing performance! Love this!

  • wow. man did steve butcher that guitar solo. that didnt even remotely resemble Trevor's masterpiece. I would be totally dissappointed if I spent money to see this. what a poor attempt at such an iconic song.

  • this singer sucks, he sounds the same as anderson, but has the sex appeal of a donkey, the whole set btw makes me think of a ... boredom. Yes has made history, but they are far from top nowadays. Take it easy, old guys, you had your time, respect, but don't keep beating the money out of our pockets for these shows on automatic pilot

  • @JoeDanski I cannot agree more. I have always liked Yes and have lots of respect for them, but honestly they should urgently quit. I honestly find this video embarrasing to watch.

  • the guitarplayer has a nice cosy carpet , just like home :-)

  • New album to be produced by Trevor Horn. I for one am excited! Can't wait to hear it!

  • LOVE the cowbell. hilarious.

  • I, for one, think it's cool to see Steve Howe take his own solo, after refusing to even try for so many years. It's like he finally admitted that this song is part of the Yes story, even if he wasn't around when it was first new to the world.

  • Really amazed that Jon Anderson still has the chops. However I'm dissapointed in the guitar solo. That solo should never be changed or messed with...EVER!!

  • @dmunozkuster Unfortunately Jon Anderson became ill and was unable to tour. He was replaced by a Canadian tribute band player named Benoit David. He's the singer in this video. I don't know why he isn't back yet, he must've had a falling out with Squire or something.

  • @DSCRAPRE

More like a falling out with Howe. From what I've heard, Jon and Steve haven't gotten along for years.

Jon came up with excuse after excuse for why he didn't want to tour or record another album. Everyone else was eager to get back on the road. When Jon fell ill, the guys made a business decision to not stall any longer and move forward. The circumstances were unfortunate, but they didn't dump Jon because he was sick. The die had already been cast.

  • @shammadamma That's good to hear. It sounded like the band just threw him to the curb. I'm glad that wasn't the case.

  • this singer sucks is a fuckin imitator, jon back please and rick too ,yes without him have no soul.

  • @darknessblackened they've got to evolve man, they're going to die eventually, sadly. i know what you're saying, i love jon too, but they're doing ok with the new guys. how will they replace howe? i don't think it can be done, but we'll see.

  • You can bitch all you want how they're old, they suck, but they're up there making the money, what are you doing sitting at your computer?Nothing!

  • needs more cowbell

  • when is enough enough guys?? Are you doing this for money??..this is like Ringo touring as The Beatles? I saw Yes live in 1984 in Phoenix and WOW sure was a lot better than this....this lead guitar was WEAK compared to what I heard in 1984

  • For a coverband, not too bad! Only the singer is performing real poor. The old man on the guitar even looks al little like steve howe.

  • who are we kidding. This sucks. This guys an impostor!!!

  • This is not the best live version! the bassdrum is far too loud and the backing vocals are almost gone.

I think this song sounds best with Trevor!

  • This music is definitely "Yes" for me!

    better than Justin Beiber

  • Hey, Benoit! You gotta get in more cowbell!!!

  • @gorillabelly1 that's what i was thinking! :D

  • did this happen to be in Pittsburgh, because this seems oddly familiar

  • Once again Howe's choice of guitar sounds on Trevor's material are lame and lack luster. Howe comes accross as being an arrogant egotistcal boring player everytime he is asked to play Trevor's stuff. Howe needs to take some humilty pills and respect the fact that many current Yes fans would not know of his work were it not for Trevor Rabin. Howe left for ASIA, and Rabin breathed new life ito the band. Also, Rabin raised the bar for Yes's back up vocals and harmonys any time he was on stage

  • @neechee5150 However, there's absolutely no way you can compare what Rabin did in Yes to what Howe created; Steve Howe and Yes with him is something out of this world.

  • @Iszil you might want to listen to 90125 again...unless you were around when that came out you CAN NOT understand the impact and sound.....Trevor BLOWS AWAY HOWE....seen it with my own two eyes

  • @neechee5150

    I AGREE!!!

I JUST READ THE OCT. ISSUE OF CLASSIC ROCK, PROG.!

BILLY SAID THAT WHEN HE JOINED IN 96, THAT HE THOUGHT ALL HE WOULD HAVE TO PLAY WAS RHYTHM GUITAR, BUT STEVE PROTESTED PLAYING ANY OF TREVORS SONGS!!!

STEVE ALSO FELT THAT BILLY REALLY DID NOT BELONG IN THE BAND!!

I THINK THAT CHRIS WOULD LOVE TO HAVE HIS TWO FRIENDS BACK IN THIS COVER BAND!

MAYBE YES FANS WOULD CARE ABOUT IT THEN!

TREVOR HAS SAID"HE, JON AND RICK ARE ITCHING TO DO SOMETHING TOGETHER!! HOPE!

  • @neechee5150

hellz yeah man, ur telling it straight up.. i love the guys playing but wuts cocksucker, to play Trevor's stuff the way he is playing it.. trash

  • @neechee5150 Your a complete idiot! I have seen Yes 19 times and Trevor Rabin can never compare to the genius of Steve Howe! Quit talking out your ass you pompous bullshitter.

  • @dreymasterartist1 I am sure that all of the other youtube viewers are as impressed with your use of profanity and ad hominem. You are free to have your favorite between the two guitar players. However, to deny that Howe gives a lack luster effort and detests playing any of the Rabin material is like looking at the sun at noon day and then saying it is pitch black outside.

Rabin made Yes viable again and brought many new fans to the Yes concerts that Howe is making a living off of.

  • I like the song but... erm... this is surely, just awful. no?

  • I love this tune on the radio but it just never has the right energy live

  • Great recording and awesome sound quality!!

  • Toooo ssssssllllllllowwwwwww... Sometimes to duplicate the sound of a record, you have to accelerate. They must know it. Maybe they don't care. The new singer (great) and Chris do a great job. Steve takes a decent solo. But what's wrong with Alan? He's not as tight as he used to be. Not tight enough. Well who am I to say that? Just me. I know... But I'm right

  • mamma meje, ce cagat' !!!

  • This is the best Yes COVER band I have ever hear

  • I'm surprised Steve Howe can bring himself to play this tune; he always slagged the 90125 album in interviews. And yet, I bet fans are disappointed if they DON'T do this song. So Steve has to bite the bullet, and play the pop.

  • @caspianrex I think his redux with Asia has reopened him to seeing that there is a charm and demand for this music. He used to play this song with no energy or gusto, I'm glad to see he's stopped phoning it in.

  • Jon Anderson, l'unico vero cantante degli "Yes".

  • What is it with these prog guitarists and expensive rugs?

  • Stevie, crank that distortion pedal will ya...damn it

  • so good!!

  • If yo go to Venice you will see a David of Michelangelo, the original and some copies in squares. The copies looks exactly like the original, but tue original David looks as he is alive and the copies looks without soul. It is the same for Yes without Jon Anderson, sounds similar, but it lost the spirit and music. I am sorry, but it is not the same, I don´t like it without Jon

  • Not bad, but without Anderson I don't see the point.

  • This song needs more COWBELL!

  • A Jon Anderson impersonator? Do you think the Rolling Stones would hire someone who looks and sounds exactly like Mick Jagger did 30 years ago if Mick were unable to play? I went to a YES show on 7/10/10---low energy & geriatric grooves. Far worse, I hadn't been informed that Jon had been replaced by a stepford wife...I didn't mind that he was missing, but they should have replaced him with someone uniquely original and creative. Frampton rocked though!!

  • I've always loved Yes and always will. Sadly, there seems no spark or energy lately. I know nothing about the split between Jon and the rest. Still, no one can take their place as the number 1 rock band of pure originality. Individually or together, just an amazing group of musicians.

  • gta vice city baby

  • Wow, more than 128 tracks... A fucking great prod !!!

  • Steve Howe, I have loved you for 40 years brother....you could have tried to at least add synth effects to your solo....Billy Sherwood always did a good job on that solo. Would be cool if Trevor joined in for a tour, and Benoit is a great singer, but Jon please come back!

  • Drummer is...ok

  • @mrfitness123 That is Alan White my friend, he had been their drummer since 1974. I like Bill Bruford a little better, but Alan is still good!

  • how old is that guitarist??!!

  • @Mustangman2525 about 60 I think?

  • Jon Anderson is not ill anymore, he's been touring the US and Europe in late 2009 and 2010, but he's been completely ignored by Chris Squire and Yes.

  • YES isn't YES without Trevor Rabin though. :(

  • The only reason that Benoit here is performing with YES is because Anderson has been ill. He says it in an interview. Anderson is still in YES and will be on any of the new albums. Benoit is just a back up QB and everyone knows it. Anderson has no bad blood with him and neither does any of the band....so who are we to second guess?

  • @GolasgilEldemar You voiced your opinion, why can't I? And just as YJ777 has stated, Jon has been touring since 2009 and Yes has been off the road since Jon has gotten better. ("May 15th 2009 Jon Anderson, Hi you YES fans out there, I realize that Chris Alan and Steve are touring as YES now, but I won't be up there singing, 'they' would rather carry on as they are in their version of YES...I do feel sad about it of course, but it's their choice"). Jon Anderson on Facebook

  • Jon Anderson is not just the voice of Yes but has been a very vital part of the creative force and drive behind it all. Let's see if Yes makes music with Benoit David and then let's see how he fits in with Yes as a member. Not just making yes a cover band of themselves. Not to sound as harsh as it does, just a statement from a long time fan.

  • More Cowbell...

  • White pants onstage is a very ill-advised choice. Same with cowbell. But his vocals are good, so I don't regret my recent purchase of Yes tix, before I realized that JA, won't be with them. Should be a fun evening.

  • Jon Anderson was best singer

  • I'm just glad to see that after 40 years Steve Howe has accepted overdrive in his life. :) just for the Rabin parts to sound right and to please the fans in the $200 bleacher seats... BTW, the cowbell is being added to the upcoming Las Vegas mega-reunion, along with the disco ball, the Planetarium laser light show and the long-lost Mothership from the Funkadelic tour. (Will Ferrell is rumored to be the backup cowbell player. :)

  • Get rid of this guy...Bring Jon Anderson back!

  • Yes will go on forever untill they all die off.. this isnt britney spears or justin beiber.. this is REAL MUSIC!

  • @JerrysLastNerve Maybe we need to start a movement to bring back real music. What I hear now is not music...its electronic crap!!!!!!!! Amazing Anserson still has his voice fairly intact after all these years.

  • @JerrysLastNerve You got that right because modern unrealistic pop music goes nowhere in life.

  • @JerrysLastNerve today's singers will be forgotten by tomorrow.. this is gonna live forever!

  • @JerrysLastNerve justine bieber is not a musician, he's an audio computer experiment.

  • yes, he's also an illuminati puppet and satanist hence the very quick global "phenominum" and success. Trust me

  • @JerrysLastNerve More likely they'll all be replaced... =P

  • Wow... that's the first time I've seen Steve play Trevor's lead on the guitar, usually they have Wakeman do it. Benoit did the song well, I have to say.

  • Ho my god, Howe is so old ! What a wonderful guitarist

  • benoit david really sounds like jon anderson. god i hope he comes back though.

  • @ArmyOfRock11 Yes-Peter Frampton US Summer Tour 2010 tour dates are now on the Tour page. Jon Anderson is not part of this lineup. --BUMMER!

  • @ArmyOfRock11 I dont think he will. Hes not well. If he does i'll put a mortgage on my house to get the best seats possible.

  • I have seen YES in concert with several different lineups, including the Drama lineup in 1980. I have enjoyed what each has had to offer. But I do think every band, including YES, should have an expiration date before they go sour. A good example would be the Who half time show during the Superbowl. My God! Give it up guys. You are done. I hope YES doesn't continue performing to that embarassing point

  • In an interview one time Steve said that he and Trevor were incompatible

  • Just watched the new Star Trek movie, why can't these sound writers use use something from Yes or the Moody Blues, The Moodies wrote an entire album in 1969 about going to the moon, they never used one song from that album...Trevor is in Hollywood and never uses any sounds or songs from Yes....that is so stupid

  • who ever recorded this must have used a cellphone...Yes is better than this, but this was a Rabin song.......Yes plays in Florida for two dates this year, one being SeaWorld, should be good, not great I do not understand Jon is playing his own concert tour at this time, he is not sick??????

  • As a die-hard Yes fan, there's only one thing I'd like to say: This lineup is a hoax!

  • Steve Howe is NOT Steve Morse.

    Is much better.

  • Why can't that old man just use distortion.. This isn't Yes, this is No, and I think they should just retire all of them..

  • and I think you should retire your comment but I know that not going to happen !

  • As a huge fan of Yes I've appreciated and supported every Yes album to date along with the member changes and tours... But this is just plain embarrassing! I don't think Jon would want to be a part of this. I couldn't agree with ggsky99 more well said.... Lets see a new studio album with Jon, Trevor, Tony Kaye, Tony Levin and Bill Bruford !

  • did tony levon hever played with yes? That must have been so hot

  • @stevezane Tony Levin played on the Anderson/Bruford/Wakeman/Howe cd and toured with them for that record.

  • @myampisbroken That must have been amazing...Tony Levin is one amazing bass player.

  • Its so weird hearing steve howe playing Rabin esque guitar.

  • YES is one of the greatest bands in the history of rock, and it's a crime they aren't in the R&R Hall of Fame (along with RUSH). But I also think it's time to put this thing to pasture. It's sad to see such an influential, talented band devolve into a nostalgia act. According to their web site you can see them at Orlando's Sea World FREE with admission to the park. Does this remind anyone of the puppet show scene in "Spinal Tap"? Guys, just retire & enjoy life. Thank you for all the great music.

  • i have to agree with u ggsky99, yes had a great music career and i think they have made enough to retire

  • @ArmyOfRock11 But why? People still go to see them, people still enjoy their music and overall, they still seem to enjoy playing it. There are so many comments here about how they should give it up and retire, so why are they still packing venues, however small. These guys live for music and that's something that you just can't hang up your hat on and call it a day.

  • thats why they only play in small venues up to 1000people only at 100 a pop

  • I saw Yes at the Famous QPR show back in the 70's.

Gryphon were on the bill and were absolutely awful!!

  • Comment removed

  • Steve Morse of Deep Purple still plays the mega solo guitar of 'Highway Star' written by the iconic guitarist, Ritchie Blackmore..relatively same into these days

Unfortunately, Steve Howe is NOT Steve Morse..

Even though, Steve's solo here is not that bad. It's just 'distortion' not in his account as an art guitar player.

  • กล้องไอ้เหี้ยม นี่โคตรชัด

  • This is Yes now, so get over it.

  • i agree with ya

  • well said ! we need a new Yes studio album with this lineup urgently !!!!

  • no Jon no Yes

  • look, band members do change over time, just because jon anderson isnt in there, or trevor rabin, or tony kaye, doesn't mean yes is over with, they are still pretty good

  • just seen them in Manchester-never having seen them in the 70s really appreciated the quality of musicianship and great to discover them properly at 56! Did anyone see Gryphon perform with them(support band)in the 70s..wish we had some film footage of Gryphon somewhere any ideas anyone? WOW what a great band YES are...sunshine in the rain definitely

  • Was that in Ft. Worth? I almost went to that show. True, it's not quite the same without Jon, but folks should get over it and don't be haters. Jon might come back some day, anyway. Besides, Benoit David is an excellent vocalist and cowbell player as well. I just gotta have more cowbell!!!

  • there more of a maybe than a yes now..

  • im seeing them in bristol tonight!!

  • Me too. Benoit sounds pretty good

  • As Ron Weasley would say: "Brilliant!!"

I was at Bass Hall that night, what a great show it was and what a performance by Steve Howe who played with both Asia and Yes! and Yes keeps going on strong in Scotland this week...

  • You're comments are funny because he sounds like a young, Jon Anderson. Not bad - they others can't even move - he injects some life back into the band. And don't attack me - I saw YES live in their "prime" and consider them the BEST band EVER!

  • this is an absolute joke. yes is not yes without jon. this guy is a goon

  • Good video ! I saw the Yes, friday night in Milano ( Italy) . I liked very. Ciao

  • It's not the same without Jon, i read somewhere that the singer was in a YES tribute band and was asked to tour with YES when Jon fell ill just before the tour started. Jon was not happy though because he didn't know they got another singer in until he read it in the paper. He was wanting to prospone the tour until he was well again.

  • I am interested whether The keyboardist and steve howe take seperate solo spots?

  • No, they did not. Refer to my other video with Steve doing a solo set.

    D.

  • Yeah singer was good keyboards were good but it might be time for the senior citizens to call it quits. Especially Steve

  • Comment removed

  • thanks!

  • what happened to jon?
