custom.BackgroundColour doesn't work for me and also the alignment you did is not working for me . i m using ubuntu python2.7 ..wot could be the possible reason????

@u2ube1980 You simply misspelled "custom.SetBackgroundColour". This is probably the reason the alignment doesnt work for you either.

I find it better not to use panel=wx.Panel(self)

Just say: Welcome=wx.StaticText(self,-1,­"Welcome dude",(1,1))

That way you don't make EVERYTHING grey and you keep your menubar a different colour.

how to set a border for the static text, also i have set a fixed size for my static text and the content is gona be dynamic ... now when my content exceeds the size of static text a vertical scroll must appear. Pls help me in doing this , i have tried "style=VSROLL" but then the scroll appears even when the content is less than the static text's area... i dont want to have the greyd out vertical scroll !! ill be very thankfull if u help me out

@sueroski - The setup works for me on OS X 10.6.6...so I wonder if it is a small syntax problem. I noticed that most of my errors were missing letters, or capitalizing one thing but forgetting to do the same to another.

Did you key in:

custom=wx.StaticText(panel, -1, "This is custom", (10,30), (260,-1),wx.ALIGN_CENTER) custom.SetForegroundColour('wh­ite') custom.SetBackgroundColour('bl­ue')

like so? It worked for mine, and should translate just the same, it's still Python.

We spell it "colour" in Australia too. The spelling originates in the 19th Century when typists would add letters to words because they were paid "per letter". This is true of lots of words.
