This piece is amazing. I love Janacek. He always seems to be able to turn dissonance and awkward melodies into something accessible and, more importantly, beautiful.
Is there a concept behind this?

How about the string quartets. After all, they are the two most original and exciting quartets of the 20th century. They are on their own.
