First of all, I don't know of any "bad" Scarlatti sonatas. Actually, I think there is a spark of geniality in ALL of the sonatas ascribed to Scarlatti. The question, whether all of them are really Scarlattis, is to one point important, on the other hand just a proof of the enormous effect of Scarlatti in his time. The fact, that Scarlatti composed other Fandagos, and the fact that he uses the harpsichord rhythmically as well as the modo dorico makes it plausible that it is on of Scarlattis works
Scarlatti was capable of writing a great variety of music but he was not capable of writing cliches. I doubt very much that this is a composition of Scarlatti.
there were many composers in the court of Fernando VI. Also Scarlatti was never predictable as this piece is.
@mrmolinodelahoz - honestly that's what I actually feel about Soler's work since I got to know it.This one is shorter besides being a way more brilliant as far as pure musical invention is concerned.
Scarlatti wrote hundreds of works and most of them were different. However, that leaves room for one fandango.
My sense tells me that Scarlatti would never have written such drivel. Some of the 555 somatas are obviously not written by DS either but no on ever points this out including the Scrott ross Recording.
Some were written for the king Fernando VI because he was of limited abilities.
But some are so bad as to have been included as a favor to some one.
However, Scarlatti was much copied in UK where this piece was found Thomas Arne was one of the copiers. He himself was not a bad composer but didn´t write to much. Scarlatti was always original and didn´t imitate other things specifically.
He copied "styles and idioms" but not signature pieces.
Merci beaucoup! Grande piece, in fact the best piece of Domenico (I would trade it for all his 555 sonatas) if he has written it by himself which is doubtful I guess. Nice performance indeed!
Mr. Mihajloviv, you are madly. )

It´s the same repetitious monotony all over again, for too long to bare.

@mrmolinodelahoz - HI! interesting topic.
Pls.could you indicate me one or some of those sonatas which apparently are not
by Domenico ? So I'll be listening to them
in following days and may be I'll get your point correctly.
Thx !

Hey, I've been trying to get the sheet music of this fandango.
Does anyone knows where to get it?
Thanks in advance.

what is the number of this piece?
i mean in the list of all Scarlatti´s pieces.
seijurouhiko 2 years ago
It is not included as any number and probably not written by Domenico Scarlatti.
Raphael Puyana has a recording of a fandango written by "MR. Scarlatti" from the UK. People liked to copy things.

Who writes Mr. Scarlatti?! People don't even know how to copy things? Oh, and this isn't Scarlatti's: he doesn't write stuff like this.
