  • this needs to be performed by musicians to be truly interesting IMO

  • @MrTristanperotti - I agree with all of your comments - it would be far better to have performances by live musicians. Unfortunately, I don't have access to any musicians who could even remotely deal with the complexity of the music. I know MIDI sounds bad, but it was really the only option in this case.

  • @MaxRidgway Sorry for the double post. Ya, trust me I understand the limited resources composers sometimes have to deal with. Still it would be interesting if these types of pieces could be orchestrated with other types of computer generated sounds ie. synthesis or sample processing, thus negating the need for performers (besides a good PA that is) and also maintaining the integrity of a work or music which midi works against.

  • @MaxRidgway also, just out of curiousity, do these works have scores? or are they not needed?

  • @MrTristanperotti - Thanks for the comments and question - I used a computer program called Mandel32 which generates a MIDI file through mathematical formulas which can be set and altered by the user in order to determine the scales, tuning, number of voices, ranges, and in fact all other parameters of the music. I have used these MIDI files to create scores using Finale and other kinds of notation software, but the results are exceedingly complex, and would be next to impossible to play.
