Brilliant songwriting by Rodgers and Hart, with Hart's typicaly clever, slightly melancholy lyrics. Some scintillating chord changes here in the intro: "like a daisy I'm awake"
helloooo ballad for musical theater program audition :D i was going to sing a song from wicked and realized i wouldnt be able to do that song without being compared to not only the original actors but everyone else that has performed it. i then went to this link that sent me to another link that lead me to this song. THANK GOD FOR THOSE LINKS i love this song :)
who is on piano here? who did the piano arrangement? this is a GREAT piano backing!! am i the only one who's hearing that this piano might be the best part of the whole song?? the song's lyrics are classicand ella is unapproachable but i have heard lots of versions of this tune and NONE like this KEYBOARD PLAYER! WHO IS IT???
@Horwitz86 ... This tune is from: Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Rodgers and Hart Songbook from 1956. She is backed by a studio orchestra conducted and arranged by Buddy Bregman. This album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999, a special Grammy award established in 1973 to honor recordings that are at least twenty-five years old, and that have "qualitative or historical significance. We may never know the studio musician on piano.
No video, but Richard Rogers music, Lorenz Hart's classy provocative lyrics ("vexed again, perplexed again, Thank God i can be oversexed again"), Paul Smith making 88 keys new with each verse and the sweet, exquisite, and subtle phrasing of Ella's voice. We overuse superlatives in this age, but this deserves every possible one.
"Vexed Again, Perplexed Again, Thank God I Can Be Oversexed Again".........Hell Yes Folks Just Don't Write & Sing Like This Anymore!!!!!! Thanx Lady Fitz! And You Too Richard Rodgers & Lorenz Hart.
Wise at last, my eyes at last, Are cutting you down to your size at last Bewitched, bothered and bewildered - no more Burned a lot, but learned a lot And now you are broke, so you earned a lot Bewitched, bothered and bewildered - no more Couldn't eat, was dispeptic Life was so hard to bear Now my heart's antiseptic Since you moved out of there Romance, finis. Your chance, finis. Those ants that invaded my pants, finis. Bewitched, bothered and bewildered - no more
"...since you moved down there.." This song actually made me blush. Did it ever chart? The piano dancing around the power and subtlety of her voice is perfect
Sorry all, have now listened to this version right through to the end and ... there is my answser (correctly, "ants that invaded MY pants...". Thanks anyway.
I've loved this song for years and nobody does it better than the fabulous Ella. Politely PLEASE, does anyone know of Ella's version of this song where she sings "the ants that invaded his pants beneath"? I know for sure I heard this (on the radio) many years ago but don't know where/how to find it. Help will be much appreciated.
@Bridget2341 It is on the ella/songwriters hits album. I don't know the exact name but it is yellow with black writing and scetch of Ella on it. Good luck finding it. My mother bought it for me and my dog chewed it all up. Until that it was the most played cd of my enitre collection. LOL
@Horwitz86 The piano is good, but it holds nothing on Ella's voice.

@thatoperastar0604 And age decides what one knows about jazz? I think not.
While jake11711 does seem to be ignorant of jazz, his age has nothing to do with it.
