Just about every trap on youtube or on the market uses a door of some type. So unless you have a truly unique idea sometimes it is better to simply make a lot of them fast.

Good idea but complicated, counterweighted trap doors work well too. Can I offer my favourite idea, glue the wheat etc to the flood with wood glue then it would last for ages and not need replacing, maybe a variety of stuff the attract various pests.
