Right I understand that...but since this thing was so heavy, why didn't it just topple over from the weakened part in the middle? Think of Jenga. If the floors were getting so weak, I would think that the whole top half would just break off, and the floor directly underneath where the plane hit would just fall one floor and not fall anymore. It was destroyed by the falling mass above impacting each floor in turn so how could it have fallen over sideways? The structure below the moving point of collapse remained essentially intact until said point reached it. It guided the collapse, in some vids you can see the core array of columns remains standing for 8 seconds after the event proper. It did infact topple but there was still enough mass to crush each floor in turn, the mass increased by adding that of lower floors.

The simple truth is that older skyscrapers were probably over-engineered. They occupy large footprints, but offer less space inside. Newer buildings are engineered to different specifications. However, I'm not sure how much of this applies anyway. We've never has a large, commercial jet liner crash into a skyscraper before. A smaller B-25 just doesn't compare scientifically.

i still can't believe i slept thru the whole thing when it happened...i had the morning off and got up about 10:45 or so. my parents hadn't woken me up for it. they told me what happened (that both twin towers had been destroyed) when i woke up. i'll always wonder how i would've handled watching this on tv, you know wondering what would happen and then to witness the towers falling.

Right I understand that...but since this thing was so heavy, why didn't it just topple over from the weakened part in the middle? Think of Jenga. If the floors were getting so weak, I would think that the whole top half would just break off, and the floor directly underneath where the plane hit would just fall one floor and not fall anymore. I'm not a physicist, but it just doesn't make sense to me.

It was destroyed by the falling mass above impacting each floor in turn so how could it have fallen over sideways? The structure below the moving point of collapse remained essentially intact until said point reached it. It guided the collapse, in some vids you can see the core array of columns remains standing for 8 seconds after the event proper. It did infact topple but there was still enough mass to crush each floor in turn, the mass increased by adding that of lower floors.

From the television news perspective, I have never seen what happened to the ones below & what they were feeling when everything came apart. It's so raw & shocking to see this for the very first time. I truly wonder how many of the people nearby who ran for their lives still suffer the memory of it all.
My beau worked there recently in the area & it's hard to pass by knowing there were these two beautiful buildings, iconic in their own right... & the people who lived but don't see another day.

A much more sensible conclusion is that the dripping metal is either aluminum (from the plane) or lead (from the batteries in the back-up system Fuji bank kept on that floor) - both of which have a melting point well below that of steel.
There is no solid evidence of thermite there.

Aluminium melts at 600 degrees C. Lead even lower. Steel on the other hand 1540 degrees C but starts weakening at just 300 degrees C.

And anyway, thermite reactions are many times brighter than the sparks falling, so whatever those sparks are, they aren't thermite. Nor is it possible to mount thermite on a vertical beam and expect it to burn through, as it would fall away the moment the reaction started. Gravity.
Controlled demolitions use explosives / ropes, slow dismantling, not incendiaries like thermite. Two bloody big planes did the damage.

The part that most seem caught up on is the fire however.
A dozen floors for the plane impact area and the high end of estimated weight above aught to be simulation enough. After the fire has become more so exhausted, we can fly an additional plane through the structure from any desired angle and increase the carried weight until the spectators become satisfied.
Not only would I spend money to get it built, I will help build it.

It's possible the sparks could be high voltage cables melting away.. but I'd expect circuit breakers to take care of that unless they were damaged or destroyed.
You watch the CT's spread this one - the fire was hot enough to destroy the building because the circuit breakers were sabotaged enabling HV cables to burn reeeeeealy hot.. ;)

Yea, your right, but the biggest problem with 9/11 I have is, speed doesn't seem to have played a part in this. Mass doesn't even seem to play a part in this. If the towers would have shifted and fell "over" instead of down. Plus Jet fuel = 135,000 Btu/gallon and Diesel motor fuel = 138,700 Btu/gallon. The melting point for cast iron is 2200ish F. Now this is if cast iron was used because it has the lowest melting point of any support beam. Heat moves UP but the lower levels became weak?!?

The plane in 1945 hit just about in the middle of the the two 9/11 planes (floor wise) No sprinklers, build in 1931, and 978 gal. of jet fuel was burning in this building. So a building built in the 30's that was never really thought of being hit buy a plane stood. While two buildings that were built AFTER this accident and had sprinklers couldn't?!? We learn from the past so the next huge building we build are we going to ignore that this happen and not take in account it could happen again?!?

Guardrails use to have the ends sticking out of the ground and just hard mounted. After the first car hit the end dead center and cut the car in half killing the driver they started turning the ends down and buring them. Then when they figured out this made a ramp and cars were going over and killing people they made them with "bumpers" that crush on impack slowing the car

The simple truth is that older skyscrapers were probably over-engineered. They occupy large footprints, but offer less space inside. Newer buildings are engineered to different specifications. However, I'm not sure how much of this applies anyway. We've never has a large, commercial jet liner crash into a skyscraper before. A smaller B-25 just doesn't compare scientifically.
