You can also sneak on farmland so it won't become dirt.

Wheat can grow without water, but has to have over light level 9, even without sunlight. Water can hydrate tilled farmland within a 4 block radius. Melons/Pumpkins need a hydrated and tilled farmland adjacent to them in order to grow. That's where the melon/pumpkin will pop up. Hope this helps. :D

I liked this it was pretty funny. Also for melon and pumpkin seeds you need blocks next to them for it to grow so just put a free block around it. Also you should make a separate place for them so they wont interfere with the wheat.
