  • AGREE WITH YOU TOTALLY!!

  • Wow not only is this song really good, but you also managed to make a really powerful video to it. Good job, I love it!

  • Loveeeeee ittttt

  • Although Sam Cooke's version still moves me to near tears.. I have to say that this version oozes with emotion.. and I love the fact that he played with the melody and the feel, instead of trying to cop Sam or Otis's performance too closely. Kudos !!!

  • Heard this on NPR a few weeks ago, and it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard.

  • damn. amazing. soulful...I have ridiculous chills listening to this! ...speechless!!!!

  • Love it. Fantastic rendition. Great voice.

  • Person to person moment to moment aslove ,we change the world

  • I love this song sends the passion of the lyrics and melody through your body; skin, flesh, bones, straight down into your soul. and yeah 4real, the images are great well linked with the tune.

  • its good, but you just can't beat the rhythm, pace and band of the original.. sam cooke

  • Damn.... youngin went IN

  • I love this song very very deep !

  • ok I have heard others sing this jam.......and I got to give the others due respect for their version ...but he can saaaaaaaang this song !!!

  • Doesn't get closer than this.

  • Never heard so much soul put into a song :')

  • WOW......magical

  • AWESOME! Thank you .... For those ignorant dumb fools who voted it down, I pity your miserable existence, but then ... I'm sure you self pity it too.

  • DAMN

  • One of, if not THE best cover, of an already amazing song. Just perfect.

  • I Love This Whole Song! Most Favorite Part is At 3:00 !

  • LSD2US, it's by Sam Cook. And yes, it does give you chills!

  • @MrWilliamtheboss I'm aware ... I meant the different versions ;)

  • very deep

  • Omg

  • I get chills everytime I listen to this song... If it's by Sam Cooke, Gavin Degraw, Aaron Neville, Otis Redding or whoever - The song just touches my heart

  • hey miss kelly clarkson. I would love to hear you sing this song. unless in fact you are not really kelly clarkson. in that case, I would love for you to feel like an ass for making that your youtube handle. if you really are kelly clarkson, you're awesome. If you aren't, ...... you aren't

  • I think he is a good singer, but my favorite version - besides Sam Cooke - is Terence Trent D'Arby

  • HE SINGS PRETTY GOOD FOR A WHITE BOY

  • Amazing song covered by a good vocalist. I like Degraw's voice a lot. He definitely made it his own. I just wish he didn't slow it down so much. There are points in the song where the melody is just sort of lost.

  • i listen to this song every nite before i go to bed

  • Gavin Degraw is soooo talented. Love his voice!

  • Not in politics it ain't...

  • hey can you tell me where you got some of these photos. I would really like to have some thanks.

  • I think it's funny that most of these videos and advertisements about change and overcoming ignorance and prejudices are made by white people but yet, Black Americans constantly and consistently speak as though the White Americans are keeping them down. Before you you tell me I'm wrong realize that this is my opinion as a White American and I'm allowed to have an opinion and this is based on my 26 years of life experience living in New York. I feel hurt and misunderstood by the black community.

  • Thank you for sharing these emotional photo's. Excellent . Yes it has been a long time coming. Obama will never make a change...........................

  • I much prefer the original, it's too streeeetched, but well sung.

  • Lauryn Hill did an awesome job covering this, Sam Cooke's version will always be my favorite but man Gavin Degraw brings so much emotion to it!...way to go Gavin

  • 1:26....

It hurts me so much to see that. :'(

  • Beautiful song......Sam Cooke would have been proud.....

  • This song is awesome

  • i love this song!

  • idk why but his voice to be is strong

  • Vreselijk ,ik hou het maar bij Sam Cook

  • 1:57

made me want to cry out loud.

    For hours.

  • Très beau slow .... tendre et langoureux à souhait !

  • This is one of my all time favorite songs. I have listed to every version I can find by everyone you can imagine, and, with all due respect to Mr. Cooke, Gavin DeGraw tears this shite up!!! It is the most played song in my iTunes. When I thought there was no way this song could wrench anymore emotion or feeling out of me, I found this video. It is the perfect accompaniment to this song. I love this song! I love you for sharing this! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

  • @eojindc I do think it's better than Sam Cooke's, but it's not quite Otis Redding standard for me. Dangerously close though :)

  • @eojindc - Much, much agreed. One thing I love to search on YT is accoustic renditions of songs originally written at an upbeat tempo and/or with a more electric-based flavor, and the accoustic versions are almost always far superior. The first time I heard this track, I was utterly blown away.

  • yes plz pray for the ppl in haiti n n e one else who is n a bad situation

  • Today January 28, 2010, pray for the people of Haiti. May God be with them in their time of need.

  • Wonderful Updated Version, Sir!...Thank You, Jesus...

  • sam cooke sings this song not gavin degraw

  • Gavin Degraw has done a cover of it...hahah If you've ever heard the song. you'll know that this is obviously not sam cooke.. =)

  • its gavin you moron sam sounded much better, and the quality of the recording proves it could not have been done while sam was alive......go back to your hole dumbass

  • this is an amazing song. one of my fav renditions of it if the one Seal did. but Gavin does a great job here

  • beautiful voice, beautiful song. obama is the change, the change is here. watch............

  • i pray a change gonna come for native americans god love them

  • I love your voice!!

  • Check the one sung by Nick Gardner

  • look up dietrick haddon singing this song

  • Check out the version of this song done by Al Green. It's almost as good as the original.

  • wow great video nobody wins from hate

    *lover not a fighter*

  • I was feeling it.. until I saw a politician, nothing going to change here

  • Love this video...deep and understood

  • You've got to see and HEAR the version of this song by Jana Mashonee! So hot!

  • u guys talkin about the whites the blacks the hispanics u all thinkin all this world is about is the gangs and when we all goin thru hell in this world u say these my ppl and all that crap when we need to come together and get thru this its ppl like u wreking this world we need peace im only 11 years old and i relize wats goin on i k wat u problly sayin like why u preachin well im tired of ppl lookin at how others r and thinkin since that person is gay they r wrong nobodys wrong exept for u

  • You're 11 but you dont use punctuation?

  • You don't seem to either. The word don't requires an apostrophe between the n and the t.

  • anyone know where i can find this version of this song to download? i had it on cd but it has the hidden track at the end so it's 12 minutes long.

  • shut the hell up

  • BET!!!

    LMAO....

  • this song is ridiculously amazing!

  • i mean Gavin

  • sounds like Devin Degraw , samuel ;)

  • This is a really intense combination, really powerfull.

  • @actoutloud95 Sadly Obama did'nt bring the change he so wonderfully promised..

  • no one sings this like sam cooke

  • Dude it's so owsome when he sings "please" damn he got a great voice!

  • AWESOME!

    5 S*T*A*R*S*

Thanks for posting and sharing this with all of us on YouTube misskellyclarkson25!

    Kat~

  • this song is amazing!

the lyrics just touches your heart.

    i love it<3

  • 2 my youtube bruthaz an sistaz lol. I've noticed that this world is stukk in a way of selfishness so much to where we cant help our own race so we run to things such as welfare an abortion clinics lets save our future an try helping an loving each other its ben a long time coming i just want to see our kids with an edjacation im tired of be-n labeld as a thug cause of the wrong choices of blakk youth 2day i nt want to be walking dwn the streets an having the next man wondering if i may rob hem

  • I dont like this version their is no soul in it

  • Don't be so stupid there is alot of soul in this song

  • you obviously wouldn't know "soul" if it came up and bit of your genitalia

  • i'm sorry but i don't believe i've ever heard a song with more soul than the way Gavin degraw sings change gonna come.

  • i am entited to my opinion

i guess what i mean is this one does not sound as good as the others because it sounds as if he is shouting instead of singing the song with the gracefullness!! it diserves

    NOT the song!!!!!

    tHE ARTIST SINGING IT

  • Geez, this guy is good but have you heard the original by Sam Cooke?? Don't think anyone can touch that, I'm sorry.

  • There's a new version of this song which was on PBS TV .. punch in Donald Braswell on Youtube... hes the ex opera singer who was on Americas got talent 2008 he came him fourth.. Now he's a crossover singer.

  • very powerful song!!!

  • 0:13 Grossest thing i've ever seen.

  • This is Gavin Degraw's very exceptional cover. Solo's is extraordinary and Wayne brady also does Mr. Cooke's legacy some justice as well. But Solo's-that's a complete work, with church organ and background singers.

  • well think of it this way, almost all the pictures are bad things, suffering and such, so I guess that means fags are a bad thing to, change has gotta come.

  • It's an extreme challenge to cover a truly exceptional artist like Sam Cooke. To pull it off requires more than raw courage or arrogance. It requires exceptional talent. May I say there is one person who has that in abundance: Patti LaBelle. Her 2009 performance was notable to say the least. Without making any further comment about the song, I wish to comment on the video: It's good. Good job.

  • honestly dont like this version at all. i guess its just tough comparing this guy to sam cooke

  • Sam Cooke's original was creepy, sad, hopeful and more. This guy, though I like some of his music, just seems to be spitting out words. Maybe its the time, a lot of changes have come. Peace. :)

  • i have to disagree with you on the creepy part.

  • At least we can both enjoy it, however, no?! For that, I'm glad. Peace. :)

  • classic

  • That was very good u made it your own.

  • reapent you have no idea what youre talking about in the old days in africa where most blacks come from they were rich and had gold but nowadays they are poor the africans were doing just fine until the slavetraders came and took them from theyre home so before you comment you need to get your facts straight. anyways i liked the original version the best but good arrangement

  • white colonists wrote the history but just take a look at the great Zimbabwe it's awesome to think that Africans had this when their European brothers were wading around in shit....

  • yea i read that book in eleventh grade..it really doesnt have any thing to do with black and white

  • sam cooke's version will always be the best, but gavin's got a great voice

  • I love this song! Great Vid btw.

  • Actually, it's thefixers1788.

  • How odd. It's beautiful, but I was brought here because it was favourited by a racist nazi skinhead called thefixer1788.

  • He has an amazing and incredible voice

  • amazing voice!!

  • I am only listening to this voice(vote) of angel every day in buckle I am a fan fan fan god has blessed this man as I shall have wanted to have would be what only the quarter of its voice(vote) it is magnificent of a rare beauty of a poetry envoutante bravo bravo bravo I like; .......................... • Get it, Gavin! He sounded great! Awesome job singing, not a lot of white people got it like that.

  • why do u have to say some stupid shit like that, just appreciate the music wtf

  • Shutup AJ. Go tell your other friends to stop using the n word on here.

  • like chris brown and ciara "got it like that" ?

  • Who is gavin Degraw please?

  • very powerful song...

  • oooooooooooooo my god the voice

  • daaaamn. who is singing this? this version of sam cooke's song is POWERFUL! amazing voice!

  • there are people that had less than you.but you CHOSE drugs. None of you have any connection with this song.youre just hanging on it like a limpitt.just get a fuckin life or not.

  • whoever you are nigeSW i realise i do not have ant thing in commin with this song i just know its history so for you to make a statement as such is to show your ignorence ok so just keep on doing what you do duieces

  • it was a time when we where not alowd to have as much so to have pride in the things we have today such as music,a new blakk president, ect. we hold pride in our history an or positions an protective over it

  • im not judging im simply having pride in my race an do so by protecting it an its heritage i'll leave the judging to god i just don't want to have to suffer the losse that so many blacks have sufferd ya dig i want our children to be the face of tommorow instead of their future be-n jail or a crakkhouse on the corner see white people put drugs here to exsterminate the black race now for some its a way of life an the goverment is so calld trying to stop it why give it to ricky ross huh

  • check out Gary Webb's book, written before he was shot to death. infowars has information too. margaret sanger. black wallstreet. all embodied in a change is gonna come's hopeful message.

  • future be-n jail or a crakkhouse

  • dont get me wrong white people are good people some are great but if it was'nt for the black man an women they wouldnt be anywhere we ployd there fields cleand there houses an watch they funny looking ass kids lol but nah2 be serious that is nothing 2 be proud of but we as black america changed the world wether we belong or not i have new found pride in who i am i love waking up an see-n that this world is now in the hands of a black man finally its ben a long time coming i am PROUD 2 be black

  • BRO be proud of your heritage but remember we are supposed to live the words of the man who i believe was this nations true heroes and that Martin Luther King Jr, and thats to not judge by race or creed but to live as one together and learn from our past

  • beautifully put stophating.

  • y'all need to read guns germs and steel... It has nothing to do with being black or white. It's about the resources the in the region of your ancestors. Fertile soil and beasts of burden allow for more time to focus on things other than preparing for your next meal. It's not your words that are offensive but the rationale behind them thats disturbing. Its like us knowing more about outerspace than our own oceans... it's silly. Learn to appreciate the people and cultures you share this world with

  • Which is more backward?.....Stick n Stones.......or Guns?........You cant trace History far back enough to know which race is responsible for what?

  • the first three letters ignore

  • dd dwe do treat each other with respect its no crime in having pride in your race an be-n protective over it cause if you study your history white people have stolen so much in the past from the black race from our land to our women an even the rite to learn so what we do have now we hold to be the greatest thing to us so it dosent have any means of disrespect just pride in our race but i do understand your point of view crossman

  • you dont have to protest abortion but why would you praise it.

  • if god let us use 100% of our brains would we think of others if god gave our hearts arms would you grab ahold of love an never let go if god gave the blind sight could they see a man instead of his nationality

  • some live for today but want die for tomorrow some fight for violence but want stand for peace some pray for help but never give a hand United We Stand-Divided We Fall black people

  • to have knowledge of the present we first have to now our past black people know your history ive learned that from a new found friend thankx ddsharper

  • ddsharper - What did you win?

  • In Search of Post-Racial America

    By Tim Wise

    November 21, 2008

I have to admit, I was disappointed. After all, to hear lots of folks tell it we are now living in "post-racial America," all because Barack Obama is to become the nation's 44th president in a couple of months. So, imagine my surprise when I contacted the labor department, in search of evidence to sustain the post-racial America thesis,

  • best cover ever

  • PS. Since you were alive in the 1950s i understand why you keep viewing the world as black and white. But it's 2009 and we have colored t.v. now :-P

  • What? Are black people supposed to stop fighting the good fight r7a? How many blacks live in YOUR neighborhood and what would happen if they tried to move in? The facts are still the facts. If you addressed those perhaps there'd be a conversation. Personally, I don't think you are capable or caring. You just want to pretend things are better. Well, ask Margaret Sanger and Planned parenthood, and the congress that funds black genocide at the tune of 300,000 million yearly. In fact, Ask Tim Wise.

  • my town is predominantly black

  • to answer your question dd yes i a a young blakk male living in a world of hate an yes i do want to see change in my life time but to me color shouldnt matter just the fact that i notice that blakks an whites boath need some change got made us to love our brother an sister not to hate the next man or woman because of there race or religion

  • StopHating: I do not believe you are black. Black people don't talk the way or spell the way you are pretending to spell. You are a troll. I can smell you 100 miles in troll town. Plus it is racist what you are doing, Fronting and misspelling words because you think that's how a black person would sound. Fake, fake and more fake. Shame on you.

  • r u saying black ppl can't talk right???? what kind of ignorant old fool r u? I am black and i am very well educated thank you very much

  • Ignorant OLD FOOL? I am hurt r7a3m0. Such harsh words to one who expresses themselves to you? Shame on you. And yes, many people can't talk right, blacks included. Ever look at the reading stats in AmeriKKKa?

  • an please do excuse my incorrect way of spelling sometimes i try to type way to fast without proof reading it first

  • to respond to your statement ddsharper i am an no way trying to portray something im not ok i am very much so proud to be who i am if it be black or white i am a young black man in this world trying to learn to forgive i only spell my words the way i do because it was a shorter way of saying what i wanted the only let you put a certain amount of letters in this little but in your words its probally a cospiracy against black people damn whites lol its what you calld slang remember

  • My badd StopHating29. conspiracies? Yes, they exist, and against blacks. Check out Margaret Sanger and planned parenthood vids here on youtube- for starters.

  • i know you dont agree with what im saying dd but understand this we have 2 learn to forgive or must go back to the jim crow law's where a black child had to use a different restroom than a white or we would have to drink from a different foutain or be denied the rite to vote but as you see some of america has changed since 1875 when the 1st jim crow law was put in act we have to learn that all of america is not the same i know that prejudice still is in this world but i want something different

  • a bunch of ignorance is displayd towards or race as blakk people when someone come along an says things such as the words of ddsharper why shoud we display such hate towards someone for what happend in the past an not even me nor you but our ansisters but remember sam cooke wrote that saying a change go come an there is a white man or a young man singing the same song i think that represents change i saw this sing the other day saying keep your money i want change think ddsharper

  • Are you black StopHating?

  • omg r u guys serious? you're saying a white person isn't allowed to sing this??? NOW THAT IS RACIST. saying someone can't do something because of their race

    shame on you

and yes, I AM a black person and i think no one in this generation should be saying how "hard" being black in America is for them cuz it was WAAAYYYY worse 50 years ago so shoosh!!

  • Look. White people can do whatever they want. It's their darn country, their power structure, etc. Just because you claim to be black means nothing nowadays. But looking at your profile, you are clearly white and need to shoosh. You people think you own everything and never speak out when your government, your police, your country attacks blacks via Margaret Sanger's planned parenthood, via police killing black men, via 91% of government contracts going to white male firms, via health care, etc.

  • r7a3m0: I was here 50 years ago and things are not better you jerk. When I hear this song I want to scream to God, come back and send these people straight to hell, where they belong. Imitate, Imitate, Imitate, Steal but never, ever duplicate the souls of black folks.

  • looks like you can't teach an old dog new tricks then

i'm sure all the racism and prejudice will end once your generation dies
