  • 4 years of college, fork & knife training, pilot training, hours logged...yeah, "let's go take a picture and risk 10 years of our lives on purpose!"

  • btw OohYahMan, no they didn't

  • ....You guys arent funny thats my brothers squad..... And btw HEFT312 they did that on purpose ^_^

  • a hole new meaning to the term 'water sports'

  • This is a "yellow" video. =p

  • this is what happens when you try to hover IGE.... when the ground is water and simply moves out of the way

  • This called water birding. Though they did not look like water ready Blackhawks

  • He's lucky one of those four blades didn't decide to take a dip..They would have been superfuct..

    Lucky idiots.

  • @theRAmmstein16

Former Air Force pilot Chuck Grace said after watching the video it was incredible the pilot was able to pull the aircraft out of the water but wondered what they were doing over Lake Tahoe.

"These two pilots shouldn't have been where they were, shouldn't have been that low and shouldn't have been what t

hey were doing, I think," said Grace.

  • "US Navy officials from the Pentagon told NBC News this was not a training mission, but that the two helicopter crews were allegedly attempting to take photos of each other’s helicopters hovering just above the waters of Lake Tahoe "

win for all. or at least it should have been a win for all.

  • Good Fishing !

  • this was not scheduled my uncle was their XO, and the pilots got their wings clipped

  • @welder2493 and i know president obama and am a kung fu master.

  • Brilliant argument(s) bubbling here, ladies.

  • IMO, this is a rogue practice maneuver to dip a helo. Dipping is common practice for spec ops pilots in order to receive water-bound craft; but in other more outfitted aircraft. It's not something you get an "OK" for, so the opportunities are rare outside of the field. I'm not saying it's "ok" or the way to get ready to move up...but this is just what I see. The pilot "might" be wanting into spec ops and took a shot with his buddy in the wrong aircraft.

I wouldn't want the guy piloting me.

  • @Chumly409 you don't have any idea what you are talking about, and you would be best served to press your lips together and bite your ignorant tongue.

  • @TheRammstein16 Oh, but I'm more than qualified. Resumes don't fit in YouTube comments though, but comments are. Why would I be wrong given you're huge experience in the US Navy?

It's obvious to me that he's practicing dipping. That he's off grid tells me that he went rogue and is doing it on his own before attempting actual qualification. Here, he just go sucked down more than expected and took on some water.

  • Gay guys visit this video a lot as they think it's about men in uniform losing control of their choppers. lol

  • @applecorekevin

hey look everybody, it's the first crazy conspiracy theory.

  • idiots.

  • GET THE FUCK OUTTA MY LAKE!

  • @flyboy4692 MH-60R not sh.

  • @Rinbenji Too right, my mistake.

  • @djknighton I would gladly give you some of my tax dollars so you could buy yourself a few comas for that train wreck you call a sentence.

  • My Uncle is the commander of these helicopters. Coming back from a convention in Nevada, they crew decided to eat lunch down at lake Tahoe. They tried to hover by the land but then they submerged one of the helicopters and almost submerged the other one. Both pilots were fired after they got back to base.

  • @crowinarow you must enjoy making shit up. nobody "got fired" over this. it was a mishap due to power req/power available, high density altitude, and overloaded helicopters. your uncle is not the commander of anything except your own asshole, you ignorant fuck.

  • @TheRammstein16 Uhm, do you happen to have any details on your theory? Perhaps news reports or anything? Notice I'm not the only one making this claim. See Welder2493 also.

  • doesn't look like they'd lost control

  • "i didnt know that was possible!!" yeah neither did the pilot

  • @HEFT312 "Wow!"

  • @HEFT312

actually it kind of isn't possible.

there was damage done to both helos. they had to cancel the orders and head to the nearest civilian airport. i think it was like about a half a million dollars includeing repairs and all.

  • @HEFT312 hahaha

  • you dumb bitch why did you go and put this on youtube you got this piolets fired. all of there hard work gone you dumbass. i hope you know what you did. IDIOT!!!

  • @123456789vesic They were fooling around with the helicopter when they were not supposed to. They had it comming.

  • @123456789vesic

nobody wants hotdogs to fly that stuff, civilian or military.

the pilots endangered the crew and both aircraft. it's not his personal plaything and he would have gotten busted anyway because both craft were quite damanged. their original mission had to be scrapped and they had to limp to the nearest civilian airport. since there is no repair crews or military facilites nearby there that added to the logistics problem.

some ppl need to be fired.

  • I do this on GTA, very fun

  • Correct, those are H-60s.

  • Comment removed

  • Okay ignorant people/posts (not all of them though). . . This looks like it was a high density altitude situation where power required exceeded power available resulting in loss of tail rotor authority possibly exacerbated by being in a hover out of ground effect and a strong crosswind. Once that tail goes. . . The pilot at the controls probably saved the aircraft and lives. Separated from the military?? You are an idiot dude, he/she should be given a medal. Stick to what you know dumb ass.

  • What they wanted to wash their choppers before inspection jk

  • okay for everyone who doesn't know the story...

the pilots were from San Diego, doing a training run from SD to somewhere in Colorado or Utah, and decided to take pictures of each other while hovering as close as possible to the water. the one pilot lost control of his helo and went down. before hitting the water he went full throttle and was able to recover after bouncing off the surface of the water.

once the video hit the news, their wings were revoked and licenses suspended until review.

  • It is just unbelievable that people haven't taken the freaking time to look up this stupid accident (because that's what the pilot(s) were at the time... stupid) and get the real deal about what happened. An idiot can tell that this accident isn't standard procedure for any training mission.

These pilots should be separated from the armed forces.

  • It wasn't vortex ring state, but nice name drop....look again, the helicopter was rotating. He ran out of tail rotor effectiveness and reduced power to try and get it back. Luckily when he hit the water nothing broke off and he was able to fly back out of the water. He was very lucky.....

  • He's lucky he didn't lose that UH-60,yet alone any lives..He obviously descended into his own downwash(Vortex Ring State),If one of those blades hit the water it would have been carnage.

  • @motokid032

It wasn't vortex ring state it was because MH-60's can't hover at 6,200 feet like they tried to do.

  • Comment removed

  • @bluesrockfanatic

LTE is the T/R's form of VRS..VRS happens when the M/R descends into it's own downwash losing lift because you pushed all of the clean air out from under the rotordisk leaving nothing else to carry it.

VRS IS settling into your own downwash.

You own all .0001 cents of your tax dollars that went into that hellicopter. If you don't like America or taxes move to Iraq the insurgents would love you there.

  • @iamborghini1 None of what you said makes sense at all. They are pussies BECAUSE they would rather get shot at? Lets break this down. Pussies BECAUSE they choose to sign a piece of paper which can put them in a position to have bullets traveling at a high rate of speed at their body? Really? And not sure if you are saying "cameras" or Camaro's there. The funny thing about being in the military? We get a pay check. We can buy a camera!

  • Not that amazing. Having spent 4 years as a mechanic in Army Aviation I've seen things more amazing, but I'm still not allowed to talk about them. Dam you Top Secret Security Clearance!!

  • @iamborghini1 Thug intellects? Really? Football players with M-16's? You do realize there is more than just infantry in the military right? We have doctors, lawyers, police officers, construction workers, network managers, communications experts, musicians, veterinarians and many more professions. You sound like a naive little child who watches too much Fox News. Get your head out of your ass and do research.

  • @superprokop It's amazing how ignorant people are huh?

  • @superprokop and they're all too dumb to get legit jobs outside of the military

  • @superprokop What the hell does Fox News have to do with it? If it wasn't for Fox News Cable TV everyone would be brainwashed by now. The Liberal Marxists and the Drones (willfully stupid people) make up about 40% of the nations population and vote. Our Fedzilla Government keeps borrowing Trillions from our enemies to spend us into National Poverty and Real Crisis. Conservatives want to get in there and cut what is needed to get us back on the right track towards fiscal responsibility. 2012!!

  • @faustmanv dude... I want whatever you're smoking cause that shit must be amazing.

  • @faustmanv Wait you claim Fox News saves brainwashing but you yourself use misused and misappropraited terms like marxist, and liberal (just like Fox News misuses those terms) and then claim Conservatives (Whose liberalist actions have done just as much economic damage as the 'liberals' you claim) are the problem?

Take a moment and look at what "Cuts" actually are on a fixed budget and variable tax system. Doesnt work on a nation built on growth.

  • @superprokop Fox News has nothing to do with this persons stupidity...if anything, Fox News gives people more military insight...maybe you're the one who needs to do a little research next time.

  • The report said they were on their way back from an exercise when they diverted to take a picture of one of the birds hovering over the lake for the Squadron's Facebook page. They didn't use enough power and ended up going in the drink. The pilots are not flying for the time being pending investigation.

You would think they would know better as they operate over water all the time. :P

  • @CIWS1

They were students from the RAG flying.

  • @Wendigo127 yup and the instructors won't be flying for awhile after this.

  • @CIWS1 uhhh my instructors started flying a few weeks after this.. sorry youre wrong!

  • @Rinbenji . No reason to get snippy or defensive. and a few weeks IS awhile.

  • What a world we live in where skills and enjoying yourself are frowned upon.

  • @iamborghini1 the world is a scam dont get mad a these guys for having fun. but they fucked up because they should have thought about some douche video taping emerald bay at the time, its the biggest tourist viewing point on the lake

  • Comment removed

  • How dumb was that little exercise? As a retired aviator I have always felt a sadness for pilots who think they can fly their craft beyond designed flight characteristics. Truly fortunate they didn't end up at the bottom of hte lake.

  • lucky bastards

  • Comment removed

  • The most interesting thing for me is not the video itself but the bluster and hypercompetitive behavior displayed by posters, i.e. "what do you know, prove that you're a pilot," etc. Clearly many of the people commenting here ARE pilots, what the hell do they have to prove the rest of you? Nothing! Even that is not enough for some people - then it gets into 'what kind of pilot are you, civilian pilot, military aviator, reservist, active duty, combat veteran, how many combat tours, etc.'

  • dumbasses

  • HAHAHA, What's funny is the girl hikers think its all part of the show. It's all part of the show folks!

And I like the music, "The Lake - Helicopter". Lol

  • They meant to do that. No, seriously.

  • dear snake, im in the coast guard and we take r 60's pretty much that close 4-5 times a week for training and then for SAR... Well its a whole new check list!

  • @130Maffiaguy /Roger that Coastie! our next door neighbors at Clearwater Airport is the Coast Guards 2nd businest SAR unit, and I've seen them do overwater hover/rescue swimmer insertion/winch ops. It was actually their head crew Chiefand Medics that were nice enough to come over and train OUR guys how to do Winch ops correctly when we upgraded to our Lima models. We Army types that rarely get near/over the water (except during helocasting, swimmer recovery, etc). ALL THE WAY!

  • Their just dipping the sonarbuoy

  • No need for freshwater wash down now... saved some E4 and below some working time...lol

  • Reminds me of days at HSL-34. Squids will always do crazy shit...always. Sure, punish them. But to strip two pilots of flying permanently? Ridiculous.

"You made a mistake, how dare I even CONSIDER the fact that you LEARNED from it! I'm going to waste these millions of dollars the taxpayers spent training you and strip you of your flying privileges!"

If they were REALLY interested in punishing them instead of making civilians happy, transfer them to running supplies up north for a hitch.

  • @mayej

it was over facebook photos. hell yeah you strip them off their wings.

  • @mayej Ridiculous? Those two retards nearly cost the crew and their own lives. Reckless, plain retarded. All for a facebook photo to impress their friends. Not officer material either. They should have been stripped of rank and worse.

  • @mayej That's the spirit, do $500K worth a damage to a helicopter that you don't own and give them the opportunity to do it again. What you don't understand is that money can be forgone when lives are at risk. Money is replaceable, those are peoples children, siblings, parents, you cannot replace that.

  • @mayej

the military does not need some immature silly stunt man in a position of responsibility.

    this is not high school.

maybe they are some of the type that made all those jumping off buildings on bicycles and doing faceplants on skateboards.

if they want to do stunts they should buy a mountain bike - the taxpayers aren't here to provide playthings to two ppl with adolescent style judgement.

  • @jen8933

Wow. Do you REALIZE what you just said?

    You referenced HIGH SCHOOL.

That, ma'am, is EXACTLY where 90% of YOUR military comes from.

YOU may not have a problem wasting my tax dollars, but I do.

Punish them, do not strip them. Believe me, the punishment would be MUCH worse.

Take it from someone who has been there.

That adolescent judgement is what keeps you safe at night.

Now lie down before you hurt yourself.

  • "The report recommended no punitive action, but a Field Naval Aviator Evaluation Board permanently stripped two Navy instructor pilots from San Diego of their flying status, and ordered two student pilots to undergo at least six months of repeat training. Another flight instructor was placed on a year of probation and can't fly during that time." ~December 24, 2010, Knight Ridder/Tribune

  • @chadels09 Tahoe is a nice lake, not the nicest or clearest in the world. I would say it is in the top 100 ish.

  • so much for adding to those 150,000 hrs mishap free

  • idiots

  • For everyone who wants to know= They were stripped of thief flying status and were forced to redo training

  • The second guy clearly screwed up and near-auto-rotated into the lake permanently. According to a related news item, they were obviously trying to do (unauthorized) over-water hovers just for the coolness factor. However, the second guy lost it. He's VERY lucky he was able to pull out of the lake. You're NEVER supposed to put this particular aircraft IN a body of water. It's not designed for that...

  • yes we drive helicopters now days. Its the future. Idiot

  • And another thing. Stop bragging about your "hardships". I dont give a shit.

  • Asshole. I am active duty 13 yrs. And I am 32 years old Wife and Son and I don't play "playstation". Seems like your not liked by many anyway on this channel. Fuck you.

  • SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — The crew of two naval helicopters that dipped into Lake Tahoe in September were hovering close to the water at Emerald Bay to get photos for their command's Facebook page, according to a Navy official.

No punitive actions will be taken against the aircrew and squadron, a Navy investigation concluded, but administrative measures are in progress to prevent similar incidents in the future.

  • @Yogi2k10 They lost their flying status...

  • wow that's stupid

  • to bad their in deep shit for doing that

  • Still can't believe it!!

  • Oh my gosh, that is so unbelieveable, i guess they needed abit of excitement at the cost of the American govt.

  • Notgonna....notgonnaworkhereanymore. Both instructor pilots lost their wings, studs got sent back to start the program again.

  • over half a million USD damages to the two helos ... it aint funny at all :/

  • Just so you all know: "Navy Facebook Stunt Almost Dooms Helos"

Go to the Military.com news page and you'll see the article.

  • Top Guns with no job now !!!!! All for a facebook photo was it worth it??

  • TOP GUNS!!!!!! LOL

  • I wanted to put a link to the article about this, but youtube will not accept the link... but all pilots where called in for a non friendly conversation and was grounded maybe even a career end for some of them.

  • This is why Army pilots are better.

I grew up in tahoe, these guys are ass clowns.

And no they we're practicing any "water take offs", they were trying to take pics for facebook

  • @Ilxfauno Hehe, keep believing Army aviators don't do the same silly shit. :)

  • @spins321 /We do similar schtuff....we just dont get filmed or busted for it! ;-) (Oh...I can still remember my first Split-S maneuver in a Cobra!!!)

  • @Mrdesertsnake1991 Ha, knew a former Army Cobra driver that flew in 'Nam... regaled me of stories of "flippin on the back and pullin... but not enough to lose blades" on their rocket runs to sweep LZ's. :) They were big fans of not flying predictable trajectories and getting pinged on the way down... and also Huey's couldn't do it. :)

  • @spins321

    The Army doesn't have Cobras.

  • @rjsmadren The Army "had" Cobras, having retired the last examples back in 2001. My buddy flew Cobras with the Army in Vietnam. The Marine Corps (which I was in) didn't acquire Cobras till later in the war.

  • @iamborghini1 ....It ain't just the military that are full of "homosexuals"....it's the entire world. What you think if there weren't so many in the world there'd be no debating dont ask dont tell cause no one would want it. Use your brain before you blame the military for the morality of people. Besides whether or not you agree with homosexuality doesnt change that they are people and deserve respect as all humans do.

  • @iamborghini1

Foul language...poor grammar. Yeah, I think you're just stupid. Everyone in the military probably has twice the mental capacity than you do.

  • @iamborghini1

I can tell one thing about you....that is you need therapy! You obviously are a shut-in living in your mother's basement.

  • Comment removed

  • @iamborghini1

How do I figure? I figure because your extremely bigoted comments show an extreme lack of maturity. Not to mention calling a institution a foul word several times just show a complete and utter lack of intelligence.

  • @iamborghini1 The Navy and Air Force have always been full of faggots.

  • @loonmaniac Oh, You're probably referring to the Fighter aircraft, the MIG 15. It's actually spelled Fagot, (with only one g). At any rate, it was a Russian built craft and neither the Air Force or Navy ever had them in their inventory. Or, you may have been alluding to an old English dessert made from pig offal. (Quite a bit like your alleged brain).

  • @iamborghini1

You're a douche. You can't even troll right.

  • @iamborghini1 You seem to really like that word. May I suggest you purchase something called a "Book", or even utilize the internet for something other than porn as a means to expand your vocabulary

  • @iamborghini1 Well, I must say that I am impressed. You actually do keep up with current events, (kind of). You really do need to work on that vocabulary thing however. Spelling would also be a nice touch. Might I be so bold as to suggest a entry level course in creative writing? And please, please try not to feel so frightened by things that you don't understand. (I'm sure there are many). There is help out there. You just need to ask.

  • They did this just to get photos to put on facebook according to the news.

  • You know what the saddest thing of all is....it's the workers (E6 and below) that are left having to fix the mistake of these knuckleheads. It's them not the Chiefs and Officers working extra hours and weekends repairing the damage it's the people who fix these planes. I feel bad for them I really do, thank goodness I wasn't in the squadron when that happened!

  • Both navy instructors lost they're wings for good the two guys being trained have to do everything over again.... That's stunt cost $500,000 of our tax money.

  • Well the four pilots lost flying status and must repeat training because of this
