  • Wow, absolutely brilliant!! It's amazing to me to hear William gairdner speak because so much of what he's saying I have noticed myself through my own personal experience. He speaks Truth and he says it perfectly. Well done Mr. Gairdner and thank you for writing your amazing books.

  • "You have a very powerful state at the top…" Which is dominated by corporations and wealth.

Is that what you call socialism?

  • Yes, we are spending too much money, yes it is immoral to expect our children to pay our debts but this guy is trumpeting the usual boogiemen. Socialists, "the left"... just bullshit.

Debt benefits banks... that's why they all spend money: Trudeau, Mulroney, Harper, all of them create debt to benefit the banks. All our leaders are pro-corporate, free-market supporters. There is only one type of government: rule by the rich and powerful few over the many. Socialist my ass Mr. Gairdner.

  • Please note that ALL of our debt is because we borrow from Banks that create the money out of thin air, then charge us interest! WE can print our own money and be debt free. Imagine if the $40B collected every year from YOUR income taxes actually went to building Canada instead of ALL towards interest on a debt that can never be repaid. Please watch The Crime of the Canadian Banking System

  • @MagnaBoost : No, all our debt is because there are too many morons who want the government to look after them, beyond what they are supposed to do which is protect our God-given rights and provide an infrastructure like roads etc. Government is not supposed to provide cradle to grave support for the entire population with retirement benefits, food subsidies, health care, and in some provinces, car insurance. Government is too big, borrowing too much and is far too involved in our lives.

  • this is the third time iv watched this video. and i get something more out of it every time!

thanks again stef, more FACE to FACE interviews. it was great to see how engaged you are.

  • 5* great talk... even for non-canadians ;)

  • fascinating. tx.

  • What does he have against two people with the same sex organs getting together? It ain't hurtin no one. I think he's a, dun dun dun, CHRISTIAN! Burn him at the stake!

  • @gradiu3rox : Oh my God! A Christian! Oh, the humanity! I mean, look at all those Christians who during the last century, rammed airplanes into buildings killing over 3000 and stone their women to death! Oh, wait, those are islamist muslims... Oh, what about all those Christians who killed over 120 million people in China, the Soviet Union etc.... Oh, wait, those were communists. Uh, well, there must be SOME Christians who mass murdered in the last century, right? You stupid fool.

  • @eimb1999 Christians hate themselves. Only evil people hate themselves. Do you disagree?

  • @gradiu3rox : Can you explain that any better? I must ask for clarification as there's no way anybody could be so stupid as to come up with that "Christians hate themselves" comment and actually ask it intellectually.

  • @eimb1999 Christains know that they are sinners and that they ate the forbidden fruit that God told them not to and they killed Jesus, the greatest person that ever lived by their standards. A Christian goes to Hell by default unless they throw their dirty self on the ground and beg for forgiveness. I hold that this is all false, and that humans are by nature good. It is moral to love, not God, but yourself. True Christians hate what they naturally should love. Do you disagree?

  • @gradiu3rox :where does it say in scripture we hate ourselves , we are to love God with our minds and bodies.

1 corinthians 6 19;20, 19: Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20: you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

In other words, we are to hate the sin that dwells within us.

  • @gradiu3rox : (cont): Romans 7:22-23: For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me.

That is what we are supposed to hate not, ourselves. Evil people love themselves too. How about pride, arrogance ect. Self loathing is not the mark of a true Christian believer! Yes, Christians are sinners so are unbelievers too , we are born that way... (more)...

  • @gradiu3rox :(cont) who teaches a 2 year old to scream on the floor of wal-mart when they can not have those candies? who teaches kids to lie to their parents, I know I didn't. Scripture says:

Romans 5 12: "Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned" There is no perfect man or woman.

Romans 3:23 "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (more).....

  • @gradiu3rox :As for Christians killing Jesus, people were not Christians untill after His death. Christianity is not mentioned in the Bible. Jesus was murdered by intellectuals of the day the pharasses, the Jewish leaders who thought it was blasphamy to claim to be God and apart from that they thought Jesus was a threat to their own power and control. They never understood what Jesus was trying to do, many times they tried to trap Him, and everytime He used their own words against them. (more)

  • @gradiu3rox : As for your "True Christians hate what they naturally should love" is a retorical statement as answered above which is the basis of your argument about us hating ourselves. False. Christians hate sin, the world on the other hand loves sin. Look at the world and see how much evil is out there. They do not love God because He gets in the way of their "fun". Christians love God because through His son Jesus Christ he bought our salvation with His blood which covered our sins.

  • @eimb1999 Don't waste your time quoting the bible. It's just a book. As for "fun", well brother you have no idea how much fun I have being alive. Good luck getting into heaven. The worms will have me, body and 'soul', and I wouldn't have it any other way. Peace.

  • Comment removed

  • @eimb1999 I deserve nothing. I earned what I have. That includes my happiness. I know there's nothing I can say to save you. Good luck. Was luck that pulled me out of the ditch you're in. Again, peace. Let me know how living your life at the expense of yourself for the benefit of others treats you. It won't be pleasant or fulfilling, I can assure you of that.

  • @gradiu3rox : Wow.

  • @gradiu3rox : I deleted my last comment becaue it was vitreolic towards you. I was wrong. Instead I have decided that you do not deserve vitreol, but pity. It seems that, by your last comment, people have let you down or wounded you in some way. That seems evident in your comments and I understand. I know how you feel, as I am a victim of such things myself. But in reality I have found, such disappointments are indeed insignificant when compared to true knowledge.

  • @gradiu3rox But what about the contract you made with your creator? (Quran 7:172)

  • very thought provoking and intellectually stimulating

  • Awesome interview, thank you.

Could you also interview another Canadian author – Michael D. O’Brien on totalitarianism?

  • You know, by the end, Gairdner is nothing more than a stock social conservative twit, who blabs about freedom on one hand but is very well prepared to use the power of the state to enforce his narrow views.

Not one of your best Stef. I deplore Trudeau and the state, but I am not going to listen to the hypocritical babbling of a Chrsitian socon and supporter of the prison industrial complex.

Come on Stef, you can do better than this.

  • @johnycannuk I think Stef always shows a lot of restraint when interviewing people. He deserves props for not crushing their feeble brains until after the interview. I bet he really lets into them then. But maybe not I dunno.

  • @gradiu3rox That may be right. I guess I expect a little more confrontation to some of this stuff.

  • Anyone that can print money out of thin air rules. There are no governments that are free from the banksters. You cannot reform government by voting. Without debt there would be no money. THERE IS NEVER ENOUGH MONEY TO PAY INTEREST AND PRINCIPAL. Only the principal was created.

  • @cchessmaster : "Without debt there would be no money"? Where did you learn economics? Government school obviously.

  • @eimb1999 I went to a Catholic grade school and public high school and was not taught economics in either. If you don't know that our current monetary system is a debt based then it is you that need to educate yourself. It is available for free on the Internet.

  • O for fuck sakes. How many abortions occur in Canada right up to the final moments?

    NONE. ZERO.

    Stop this nonsense. Stop lying.

The number of abortions has been declining and 98% occur before the 20th week. All after that occur because the child or mother will not survive birth.

Let women choose and trust them.

You don't have to like it. Its none of you damn business.

  • @johnycannuk

Are abortions in Canada subsidized through taxes directly or indirectly? If not, you make sense, otherwise you are just as hypocritical as this old dude.

  • @utubehayter Well if we were talking about who pays for it, then you'd be right. But he isn't talking about who pays, he's talking about the criminal law and the decriminalization of abortion. I suspect he'd still be wanting to outlaw it even if it wasn't covered under our healthcare.

And he's lying about late term abortions in Canada.

FTR I am against our healthcare system and think it should be a truly free market system - no subsidies and no regulations helping doctors unions.

  • @johnycannuk : He's NOT lying about late term abortions in Canada. Show me the federal law that limits the time frame that abortions cannot happen after a certain period. Gairdner is probably the only "media figure" in this country who does NOT need to lie to prove his points, because truth and facts are on his side.

  • @eimb1999 There is no federal law limiting them...but they still don't happen. Even Morgantaler won't do them after 24 weeks unless the mother is in danger or the fetus won't survive.

According to Grumbacher Institute studies as well as those done by Health Canada,no late term abortions occur in Canada for "convenience" - they are all medically necessary and are exceedingly rare.

Gairdner is a liar and this proves it. I despise so-cons as much as I despise the state, sometimes even more.

  • @johnycannuk : No, you're the one lying about Gairdner's position. He says, right there at about the 45 minute mark that he doesn't think that too many PB abortions are happening, if at all "I doubt that it's happening but I can't say that it never has". So before calling him a liar, you should actually listen to what he's saying. But, rare or not, that's not the point. Murders are fairly rare too, so should we not have a law against that? You proved yourself a fool by taking him out of context.

  • @johnycannuk

Lets not make assumptions about "if it wasn't" alright. There will alwaysbe people who don't like something.

If you ever get to a free market in healthcare, as far as he wants to make it illegal - let him pay for the costs of enforcing that law. Everyone not interested in making any such law can just keep their money - which implies a degree of freedom in taxation as well.

Lets see how long he keeps paying for the enforcement costs (and they aren't low).

  • @utubehayter : Yes, abortions are all subsidized by the taxpayer in one form or another.

  • @johnycannuk Over 4,000 late term abortions have happened in Canada

  • Well Gairdner seemed ok until he tried to claim that getting the state out of the abortion business and out of regulating the relationships of consenting adults was somehow the government getting into the bedrooms of the nation.

Stef, you are too deferential when he says obviously un-libertarian, pro-state things.

This sounds like a long diatribe against Trudeau, a man who has been dead for 10 years and who hasn't been PM in 30.

  • @johnycannuk : Libertarianism by itself doesn't work. It's too close to anarchy. There have to be some standards set forth by the governing body. Yes, Trudeau may be dead (thank God he can't run again!) but his legacy of destruction will live on forever.

  • @eimb1999

And this Trudeau was an anarchist? Anarcho-capitalist? My guess is.. not. Funny how them "libertarians" democratically win and ruin things. Goes to show that democracy does not work.

If you did not know democracy is not compatible with libertarianism.

  • @utubehayter : Pure democracy is "mob rule" which doesn't work , yes. Democracy is not compatible with libertariansim? Maybe depends on the values applied, but libertarianism without social conservatism is as unworkable as socialism. The only system that works is free market capitalism tendered by social conservatism, using rule of law based on traditional Judeo-Christian values. Absolutely proven to work every time it's tried. Everything else ends up in complete disaster. History proves it.

  • @eimb1999

er... Do you know what libertarianism is? I did not bring up social conservatism which (obviously) is conservatism, which obviously is not libertarianism. There are overlaps between social conservatism and libertarianism (e.g. don't rob, don't kill, don't steal), does not mean they are the same or even need each other in anyway shape or form. Also, I would love to hear about those arrogant and stupid claims of "history proves it".

  • @utubehayter : "Arrogant and stupid" eh? Okay smart-ass. What's the most successful country/society on planet Earth and what was it based on? If you answer anything other than the United States, the greatest country that's ever existed in human history and has done more good for the world overall than all other countries combined, and say it's based on anything other than "Judeo-Christian values", then you need to look in the mirror when you use the words "arrogant and stupid".

  • @eimb1999

Is that your proof? OR is it your claim? See, it is hard to tell because it has so many unproven assertions "greatest country that has ever existed in human history"? Really? "has done more good for the world"? Sure, if you call 70 years of constant war here or there "good" then sure. If you call invading and occupying people, imposing sanctions, bombing innocents, funding dictators around the world good.. then yes.. USA has really done more "good" for the world.

  • @utubehayter You typical leftist clichés betray your ignorance and stupidity. People like you are hopeless drones who are bringing down our society to the lowest common denominator. Good news for you though, as more people become as stupid as you are, your side will win. I hope you love tyranny and slavery. That's where we're headed because of leftist dolts like you.

  • @eimb1999

leftist dolt?! WTF! Thanks for the laugh.

Do you know what a leftist is? Find it out. Then you can come to my profile and check it out. On the left of the page, there is a column where I mention my heros. It will be clear who is a dolt, leftist or rightwing and who is not.

  • @utubehayter : Well, as you're a RuPaul supporter and libertarian, your apparent condemnation of the USA as a warmonger means simply that there are some people on the right who are just as stupid as all the people on the left. Difficult to destinguish between sometimes. Just because libertarians have some good ideas on economics doesn't mean they're right about anything else. For a society to work, economic freedom must be tempered by Christian moral values, which libertarians generally shun.

  • @eimb1999

Do you know anything about libertarians? Seriously. One thing after another of ignoramus is too much to tolerate. Ever heard of Leo Tolstoy?

  • @utubehayter : Seriously, yes, I do know all about libertarians. Been studying the various political philosophies for more than twenty years. I used to be a libertarian (after I was an idiot liberal), until I figured out that you need the Judeo-Christian moral component to make it work. That's what modern conservatism is. And you don't have to be a bible thumper to recognize the importance of the Judeo-Christian component. Read Gairdner's book(s). He explains it extremely well.

  • I don't study economics, I don't understand politics, I'm not a philosopher, I don't pay much attention to the news.....BUT, it doesn't take a genius to understand that democracy doesn't work. 3 people live in my household, when two of us make a decision the last person suffers greatly. If this can happen on a small scale like this then on the large scale your going to have a catastrophe.

  • @frostyuk2007 : Pure democracy is simply mob rule. But then, what country is a pure democracy? Certainly not any on this planet! Because there are a lot of laws passed here that certainly are not voted on by the public. Do you know of any country where everyone votes on every single law passed? I don't know of any.

  • Meh...still hearing a lot of garbage from this dude. "Canadians" this "Canadians" that. As if all people within a geographic region share some kind of Borg mind. I disagree with this guy on about as many things as I do a communist. And like a communist he wants his vision of how life should be shoved down other peoples throats. Still wants there to be this elite group running my life. Im so sick of Statists demonizing each others tendencies while missing the real evil.

  • @nijaexhile3 : You want to explain the real "evil" then? And explain what kind of society DOES work? Because your post proves one of two things. Either you don't understand what he's talking about, which makes you an idiot for making comments about something you don't understand, or, you DO understand what he's talking about and are an idiot for saying what you did. Either way, you're an idiot. Do us a favour and move to Europe. We already have too many people like you screwing things up here.

  • Excellent video. Interesting, enjoyable and thought-provoking.

  • frange and Anglosaxy? thingy some where in 18: why nobaddy ewer be intres fino-ugrig culture and its infulense in world

  • i love this talk, but i do have to disagree that any sort corporate person-hood or the creation of the person giving any sort of rights to human beings as it is evidence of the social contract with your government. with that contract they allow privileges that have and are being systematically taken away with the many statutes acts and bylaws that our governments keep creating.

  • Dah, this guy still holds the limited-statism position.

  • @atrickpay11 : so, what, you want anarchy? Yeah, that'll work well alright.... show me where it has.

  • Great vid. Very interesting.

  • Plato is an idiot. Or was. However you want to conceive of that.

  • at 4:57 were you searching for existentialism?

  • should of been in the red room!!!!.....

  • Language is a mental architectural ideology... Organic language (photosynthesis) Artificial language (English) for example. In this $ociety we are approaching "Peak Fiction" what is the mental architect you subscribe to?

  • Another wonderful video, Stef. I love to see the moral sticks striking the bloated propaganda of the parasites. Absolutely vital. And hey - Canadian content, eh?

  • But the irony is that successful defense

against a power-maximizing aggressor requires a society to become more like the

society that threatens it. Power can be stopped only by power, and if the

threatening society has discovered ways to magnify its power through innovations

in organization or technology… the defensive society will have to transform itself

into something more like its foe in order to resist the external force

  • @Nomels

    "But the irony is ..."

No that is not necessarily true thing. It is sort of the cold war myth based on the other saying "Poison kills Poison" or something like that. Knowing what we know now about the Cold war era.. it was a ruse from the start to get the "defenders", the so-called "free world" to accept the ideas of the enemy rather than any real defense.

  • @utubehayter

It is history, mate. Read "Parable of tribes. The Parable Of The Tribes.

A new look at how the history of civilization

    may have been largely shaped

by the raw struggle for power between societies,

    by Andrew Schmookler"

  • @Nomels

That is a BIG "may" - it is one of the plausible theories of formation of states/power structures.. not THE one, and certainly not the only one. It could have some valid contribution, to the whole phenomenon as complex as a human society over the ages, but lets not pretend that it is the only factor.

  • @utubehayter But the irony is that successful defense

against a power-maximizing aggressor requires a society to become more like the

society that threatens it. Power can be stopped only by power, and if the

  • @utubehayter Perhaps, one tribe is attacked and

defeated, its people destroyed and its lands seized….Another is defeated….it is

subjugated and transformed to serve the conqueror. A third, seeking to avoid such

disaster flees from the area into some inaccessible place, and his former homeland

becomes part of the growing empire of the power-seeking tribe. Let us suppose

    that others…decide to defend themselves.

  • @utubehayter Imagine a group of tribes living within reach of one another. If all choose the way

of peace, then all may live in peace. But what if all but one chooses peace, and that

one is ambitious for expansion and conquest? What can happen to the others when

confronted by an ambitious and potent neighbor?

  • @Nomels

Too many assumptions and too many factors ignored.

  • @utubehayter Read the whole book - The parable of the tribes by Andrew Schmookler. Then we can discuss if anything is ignored

  • @Nomels

Thanks for the reading suggestion. I will read it... at least until I can see it making sense at all.

  • @utubehayter I would love to hear back from you... in a form of a reply to any of my comments in youtube will do. Cheers. Thank you.

  • Perhaps, one tribe is attacked and

  • This is your best yet, Stef.

  • Comment removed

  • When he started talking about his lego theory of ideology I couldn't take him seriously anymore.

  • @Hamandchees3 : That's because you're not intelligent enough to grasp what he was getting at. In order to understand someone like Gairdner, you have to be more able to grasp reality than the everage leftist... or turnip. Same thing, as both have the same IQ level.

  • Excellent interview/discussion!

  • Stef, please make a video about abortion!

  • It's funny how our Charter of Rights and Freedoms makes no reference whatsoever to property or property rights. None.

  • Brilliant conversation! Such fluid discussion on a wide variety of topics.

  • I had to laugh at going 38 billion in debt to pay 38 billion in debt.

  • Money is created out of thin air by private elitist bankers using fractional reserve banking. The industrial age will soon come to an end because of peak everything (Heinberg) and thus senior debts accumulated by governments today will never be repaid to bond holding entities. Senior bond holders must be forced to eat their losses because bonds are only paper and people are what really matters. If bond holders insist on repayment they must be expropriated by the people.

  • @Bernd1964

What's so private about an industry that's maintained by state power, and that wouldn't hold up for one afternoon against competition?

And how is it "the" people who expropriate something, when a state declares bankruptcy on its debts? "No, sorry, we blew your money on buying votes. You're not getting anything." Isn't that just some people, getting snowed by some other people, except it's really obvious ahead of time to anyone who knows anything about economics?

  • Yeah but Canada has Roll Up the Rim.

    /thread

  • @tipoomaster LOL. You mean Lift up the Lip to Lose (at least, that's what it's called any time I play it.) 8-(

  • Not sure I agree about the Civil War, seeing as how both sides practiced slavery during and after the war, including slave soldiers, and Lincoln explicitly clarified that he believed in slavery on a sort of quasi-Hagelian, "race relations"-ground.

Also not sure how much of an advantage it really is, to be able to replace politicos. Won't that just accelerate the destructive workings of political economy, and remove the last shred of incentive to preserve the long-term value of the ruled?

  • @PanzerDivisionBOM

I agree about slavery wrt the American Civil War (which btw wasnt a civil war which is a fight for control of the country, it was a fight to be free of the country.) Slavery had little to do with the civil war. It was mostly about powermongers like Lincoln who wanted to keep the "empire" together. Lincoln actually only wanted to free the slaves so he could keep them from spreading further in the U.S. and send them back to Africa. He was deeply racist.

  • Filming has just started to the next of the series, 56 Up!

  • It's so nice to see 2 great minds discuss/debate in the same room.

  • I wish i could hold a conversation on this level :)

  • @cjellwood : Read and understand Gairdner's book and you'll be able to.

  • Sweden is actually running a surplus.

  • @lordmetroid

Not actually. They're projecting a surplus in 2011, still a deficit for 2010.

    tinyurl (dot) com (slash) 37549u9

  • @lordmetroid from where do they get the money from and how do they get it?

  • @lordmetroid : Canadsa could run a surplus if we rationed our services more like sweden and taxed it's people at 90% too. Well, for a while, then the economy would collapse and everyone's living standards would drop. Kinda like in Sweden.
