andy already had dengue fever in bali a few years ago (occy was with him and said this) and it is common knowledge that once a patient has had dengue fever, reinfection wil be much more severe which is what happened. prescription drugs were found in his hotel room, nothing more. do not tarnish his image without proof. rip andy

And the surfing community is saying that one of the most elite athletes on the planet is one of these fatalities?
@Hammersley1967 when mixed with common prescription drugs (even aspirin etc) it greatly increases the severity of the illness, a lot of the regular sufferers would not have access to this. now im not saying that i know thats what happened... hell, maybe its just that im 17 and i dont want to believe that one of my heroes died from substance abuse but i wish you would have an open mind :(
It's OK if he had a drug problem. It doesn't mean he was any less of a surfer or human being. It can happen to the best of us. Indeed, in Andy's case, it DID happen to the best of us.

I just think that by denying the reality of the person, we are behaving as if we are ashamed of that person.
Better for us to acknowledge the person totally - a great surfer, a great person, but a drug addict who eventually succumbed to his addiction.
