  • amazing :)

  • amazing :O)

  • i was here <3 i was only 10 XD and i still remember it :)

  • I don't get why so many people make such a fuss about these songs being mimed. The very very vast majority of such large scaled events are done in such a way. And it was especially important at this event as wind was forecast to be a huge issue in the stadium. And there's nothing worse then hearing wind buffering or the software attempts at removing the sound in music. Although this issue would have been relatively easy to fix with solo singers. Imagine the issues with the choirs or orchestra.

  • Olivia Newton-John is elegant, beautiful, and so very talented...she just has that X-factor that makes for a star...and she is a wonderful human being as well. This song/video is perfection...and John Farnham does a fine job as well. So inspiring!

  • wish I couls have been there !!

  • You Aussies have good reason to be proud of this moment in history!

  • Love Farnham's YES at the end.

  • aussie pride.

  • Oh my... and here I'm crying again... lol

This song is amazing... Olivia looks like an angel... and the both of them sing like angels... Amazing song!

  • you can tell it's mimed because on a live performance they normally have a ear piece and also a microphone pack stuck on their backs to hear the foldback

  • Aussie Icons Johnny & Olivia at the BEST OLMPICs 2000 ..... love from Melbourne , Victoria State :)

  • 10 years ago today!! Still proud to be an Australian!

  • What A BRILLIANT PERFORMANCE!!!! I've got goosebucks all over my entire body. I saw it live on the telly... Oh my god!!

  • @Karlsen6710 yes , goosebucks, too, we say here Gänsehaut in german language,

  • What a lovely song by two Aussie legend singers. John Farnham ALWAYS sings peaceful songs - Bless him!

Never seen a better Olympic ceremony.

Beijing Olympics ceremonies were awesome as well but they didn't have as much heart and soul as this one.

  • I get so stirred when watching this.....Dare to Dream.......

  • Two great legends of the music.

  • hey, the world needs more music like this! ..music, inspiring high achievements.. pushing the envelope of harmonies in all ways

john and olivia...outstanding and inspiring ..a stunning performance!

  • Sydney put on such a great event - which I will never forget. I was present there & it was a life changing experience

  • I love Olivia and they both had great charisma. She is perfection personified in the sports of the GAMES.

  • Olivia dared us to dream. So did John.

Australia showed us how to give the games.

    Can't we learn from it?

  • 本当に。。。名曲。。。

    オリビアも素敵だ///

  • Olivia is lovely. :) This song is amazing and their voice are wonderful together. :)

  • definitely LIP-SINGIN

  • @hotboixxx8 not likely... watch their live performances.. these too actually sound better live than in recordings..... besides its "LIP-SYNCHING". just thought id correct you if youre going to put it in capital letters.

  • tears

  • thought he was brittish hahahaha great duo

  • now this makes you feel great to be an aussie. Awesome song sung by two of the best Australian singers of all time. OH it feels good. :D

  • know one else in australia could have carried it off like these two wonderful artists

  • @bamerchant14 Olivia was Born in the UK and moved to Aus when about 5yrs -she's a Brit!! Unlucky !

  • @autopilotflight She's Aussie through and through... HANDS OFF

  • @autopilotflight John was born in the UK too i think

  • @anto1191 England can keep sending us these people, those they reject or have no opportunities for. England's loss, Australia forever.

  • @yugrednas yes , i share your artikle, iam from germany and I have just entered youtube, can you see my youtube addres snowflakeHeike

  • @anto1191 yes he was born in the U.K. he imigrated to Australia with his parents at the age of 10

  • @autopilotflight There must be a reason her family decided to move to Australia :D... their loss

  • Beautiful!!

  • cant believe this was such a long time ago, yr 2000 - sydney olympic games, i was there. what an opening ceremony & what a games for Australia. GO AUSSIES in the Winter Olympics in Feb 2010

  • Wow, what an amazing song. I found out a couple of days ago that I'd be singing one of the 2000 Olympic songs next year, and I was excited until I heard it was this one and listened to it. I doubt my friend and I will do it justice, but god I'm gonna try! :P Love this song.

  • Beautiful song, memorable moment, sung by two of my all time favourite singers. Excellent job. Well done Aussies. Love the country, hope to come visit again soon.

  • Fantastic Event , wonderful voice and performance !!

  • Nice song! John looks like Donald Trump

  • These two voices are simply fabulous! A wonderful, touching song! I love it!

  • Olivia has always been a cool chick.

    I love her.

Farnham's not a bad singer too.

    But Olivia ?

I worship tghe woman and have done for 35 years

  • So what if it was pre recorded!!! Its called the music business... All the "critics" who could never sing themselves if their lives depended on it would only rip it to shreads if they did'nt lip sync. The other thing is how the hell would they have heard what they were singing in that venue anyway. Dont be so quick to judge things you dont fully understand the workings of. It is an awesome song and the vocals were second to none.

  • well said: technically they probably would have done well but this is the olympics with an audience of billions - lets not trust the smoothness of this event to the potential frog in the throat - we love and trust these aussie legends so what's the problem?

  • I love both of these aussie legends.... both didnt get as much success as they deserved.... while they are both succesful they are worth even more....

  • Olivia - I believe you are THE songbird of several generations. Quite an inspirational song. Very befittng of Aussies. Nice duet.

  • Ok - so the trick is this ...the intimate vocals are back tracks but when the chorus comes in mics are turned up and they then sing over the backing track. Just a simple trick to make audiences feel like the performance is completely live - occasionally while the mic is turned up an artist will say something like "are you having a good time"

  • Not live a performance. None of the performances were live.

  • yeah I know. My music teacher was one of the technicians there and he told our class that too.

  • can't stop watching this....Awesome song by 2 awesome singers

  • Jay, how about we add this to the Only Olivia Tour? Think we could pull it off?

  • gave me goosebumps

  • i can also varify they sung it live. i was also there and in rehearsals were everything was done as they were gonna do it on the night they set mic levels then olivia slipped down a step and said 'shit' hahaha

  • I love this song. Olivia has a wonderful voice and seems such a nice person, when I have seen her in interviews.

  • i love you charlotte

  • 2 grandes voces de Australia

  • That was NOT live...

  • It definitely was a live performance, I was there first hand to see it & they had mic problems during the song if you listen very carefullly...

  • your right, there was the feedback noise.

    definitely live!

  • i hear this wasn't a live performance?

  • I absolutely love this song.

  • Wonderful song

  • Watching this makes me wanna cry. The Sydney Olympics were awesome. Best time and atmosphere I've ever experienced in this city.

  • and the words dare to dream are written all over the school it's rly dumb but the song is nice

  • my school is an olympic school and the choir sings this song all the time and they used to sing it at assemblies

  • lol I thought this was from the Beijing Olympics...You sure it was Australia 2000?

  • Hunny1au, yes it was from the Australian Olympics. But Olivia makes it timeless, and so doe John. I think this should be the official Olympic Song. It made me cry and hope for all the athletes to achieve thier best after all of that training. Beautiful song.

  • I love you,Livvy

  • absolut beatiful song, sings too it everytime i hear it

  • John farnham is awesome I love his music...

  • The United States of America would adopt Olivia if she would have it. But she is an Ozzie even if she lives on our western shores. Dare to dream. what a very nice song.

  • Great stuff, still gives me shivers. What a great moment for Oz.

  • what a voice Miss Newton-John! perfect!!Love it!

  • fucking awsome lol

  • amazing.. who cares if he wasnt MASSIVE in america his massive in australia... and australia.. IF FUCKING HUGE LOL GO JOHN!

  • John Farnham never did much in the States, so I just do not know much about him. I only konw he was the replacement singer in the Little River Band after they had all their hits. I just love Olivia. She is the greatest ever. They sound great together. This is such an inspirational song. Thanks for both Australia!

  • i dont go much on olivia's voice, but with john she was really good.

  • To me these 2 great singers and this brilliant song epitomise what the olympics is all about thats just for me anyway

  • How awesome do these 2 voices sound together? After all these years they've both still got it.

  • Beautiful.. :)

  • Two angels singing

  • Funny after watching 17,000 mindless robots in China, how nothing really connected, yet Barcelona, Greece and Sydney made you feel human, special and moved - all at the same time. We now face the greatest battle of humanity - China vs the West. Make no mistake - they're coming. But after facing down communisim, facisim - we now face a hard working, disiplined and dedicated foe. But me thinks that most Chinese are pretty pissed off with their lot. Make them aspire to be us - not to beat us.

  • I sort of understand what you're saying. I think allot of Chinese especially educated ones want a democracy in China.

  • i remember watching this live on tv i was absolute awe

  • No,there are the live symphony orchestra playing from the begining, they do sing live as well. There are echoes from the surrounding area!

  • This was great. I wonder if they were lip-singing since it does look like it.

  • I love johnny!

I grew up with his mucis and still remember him being funny as on hey hey it's saturday! He is dinky di.

  • I ABSOLUTELY love that song! It always brings a tear to my eyes or chokes me up. No matter how many times I hear it. I think if there was going to be an Anthem of sorts for the Olympics, I believe that song should be it. It speaks volumes of the dedication and dreams that the athletes have gone through to make it to such a fantastic level in their respective sports.

  • another great anthem for the olympics was the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games. Delta Goodrem sang a song called "Together We Are One" that song is beautiful. its so inspirational, just like thisaone. i dont know which one i like better.

do you remember if there was an anthem for the 2004 Athens Olympics?? if so...what was it??

  • All you silly fools OLIVIA is very PRO Gay!!! :) Last year she gave the gay magazine ATTITUDE a very open interview... She is a gay icon!!!

  • For that we first need a god that actually exists. Intersexual behaviour is common amongst all living animals on our planet, and not just because of a lack of a partner of a different sex.

  • so is cannabalism mate.....doesn't make it right though.

  • Dude, you can't compare homosexualism to cannabalism. I mean, jeezes.

  • but god made them didn't he

  • amazing,Livy is the best!5*

  • OH my Lord... I forgot Livvy sang with this guy(who I think is known more in Australia than elsewhere). He must be early 60s here because he was plugging away at late 60s pop as Johnny Farnham but they both sound amazing. And look at that venue!! I can't imagine playing that huge a house!!

  • He was actually 50 by about one month. His birthday is 1st July, 1949. And still he has a powerful voice!

  • John Farnham is a living legend in Australian pop history. He also sang with The Little River Band. You cand find more details on youtube or google or wherever.

  • i LOVEE John Farnham

  • NSN32 - I'm not gay you silly person, but who are you to condem some-one who chooses to live with the same sex partner. AND I'm not your mate.

  • This song actually chokes me up with tears!

    Beautiful. I'm a proud Aussie.

  • Farnham is awesome!!

  • yes Australia is a good country now that they have said sorry to the stolen generation. Well done guys. now they have to give the gay community a fair go.

  • lol never its not normal and dont say it is cause if it was normal u or i wouldent be here today mate

  • Homophobics annoy me.

  • Jeezes

  • Any one have a copy of Australias song for the 1984 Olympics?

Olivia down in front of the Sydney Opera House singing Peter Allen's " I Still Call Australia Home/Waltzing Matilda... it was amazing!!!! And thank you for this post!

  • Aussie Aussie Aussie oi Oi Oi! i feel so proud to be born, raised, learn and grow in this humble beautiful land! Australia is a country where words can not express!

John voice is amazing and it proves age or time does not change, olivier is amazing!

and for those who r against this land! Check agaiin! because when your her, it's a magical land!

  • There wil never be another greater voice than John Farnhams! No one else could have opened the Olympic Games in Australia!

  • That was great... I'm such a closet JF fan

I loved the Olympics... the vibe in Sydney was amazing!

  • im from Sydney...i was 6 or 7 in 2000 and i remember everything about those olympics...ironically enough...not this song...but i LOVEE it and i LOVEEE John Farnham

  • If Great Britain and Australia can produce more women like Olivia...I would dare to dream that there would be peace on earth, our environment would be protected, diversity would be cherished and those in need would be taken care of out of compassion.

  • love this

  • this is beautiful

  • Olivia is stunning!

    John's voice is gold

    This is superb.

  • keliane2559 ... I agree whole heartedly...

  • I still Bear the kiss on my cheek.... YUM YUM

  • two of aussie's best oi oi oi

  • The best Olympic's ever i think........

And great results for our little country: Netherlands! Remember the golden race's of Pieter v/d Hoogeband, Inge de Bruyn (both swimming) and Leontien van Moorsel (Cycling).

The opening and closing ceremony's in Sydney we're fantastic. I remember the musical highlights of Midnight Oil, Inxs, Nick Cave and others

  • John and Olivia are just simply wonderful. What a treat. thanks for the post.

  • two of the best singers ever! love them both

  • Absolutely fantastic brings back extraordinary memories of watching the Olympics In Sydney the best ever i think. I was 15 years old at the time now i'm 22 such fun I had never had in my entire life.

  • love it, bring back great memories of the sydney games when I was there in sunny Oz.

  • What an absurd thing to say....

John Farnham is among the very best singers in the world and sings this with such vgirtuosity that I barely can believe it !

Olivia NJ is a fabolous singer, but nothing special compared to John Farnham....

  • I agree with you thedarksideBJ....John Farham is such a ham!

    Olivia forever! :)

  • John F thinks he's God, and trying to out-sing Olivia! Ha! Only God himself could do that. The song would've been a dam sight better with just Olivia singing it, he ruins it for me, he shoudn't be on the same stage. And, yes, I will tell him that the next time I see him at the kareoke!

  • I would love the lyrics to this song...as so inspiring ...as they are both performers !!!

I visited Aussie in 2000 but not for the Olympic games. Watched heaps on TV though.

Next to my two brothers (& their families), I think John and Olivia would be my next best REASON to be in Australia. Of course I have seen both performing live here in New Zealand at different times. Come for a ride in my retired Fire Engine sometime. Arohanui mates!

  • I loooooooove this song but the French announcer saying John Farnham's name is kinda funny!! I love John and Olivia

  • so any ideas why John did the "okay" and "two" sign at about 40 sec?

  • I think it's because he somehow managed to spot a fan of his in that massive audience, and the 'two' sign is because he was asking where his other fan was. It's the only thing I can think of anyway.

  • What a great duet. Olivia is classic. Beautiful and her voice is angelic. this is really an inspirational song.

  • Amazing how that voice of John stays so young-even Olivia has retained youthfullness vocally -BUT JOHN HAS REALLY SOMETHING SPECIAL.

  • it gave me diarreah and the runs man
