after having my netflix cut off due to being poor i am so glad i finally found this movie on youtube. this has got to be one of the saddest, sweetest, underrated movies in the world. if i ever became a movie director big like steven spilberg i would remake this in a heart beat and make it known big time.....

@Yazzselena, you can get an adapter to play American DVD's, it only costs about £10.00 (maybe more now), but try an electric shop, they should be able to do it for you in about a minute.

I wasn't a huge fan of this movie and almost turned it off but I'm glad I didn't. This last scene is really beautiful. Man how I wish i had been alive in the 60's. I love how it shows in the end how drastically the country changed over those few years, with that scene showing the streets of SF. I've been to that bar the Tunnel Top shown there.

Yeah, great flick. River was also hilarious in 'My Own Private Idaho', and I think It's time to watch once again- Lilli Taylor and Johnny Depp's 'Arizona Dream'.
When you think about it, this generation of actors did very good movies in 1990s. Johnny Depp's 'Benny and Joon' was also a good one.
he went on to play the lead role in The Land of Milk and Honey, then pretty much faded out of movie making, which is a great shame, he did a great job in this movie. i'd not want anyone else to play berzin.
You notice the way the hippie whos around the same age as rivers character totally disrespects him in the most ignorant way but the older guys in the bar get it. It happen to so many young people who go through trauma that they become disconnected from their own generation.
I love this movie. A simple story yet it came with a strong impact lasting impression on me. Love the last bit especially ...just hugs and no words needed. Love the background song Groovin (by the Rascals) too....goes very well! Got to say both River & Lili acted so well and you can fell in love with both of their characters.
I believe the instrumental playing over the credits is the second half of John Fahey's "Sunflower River Blues" if I'm not mistaken. If I am please let me (and everyone else) know.
