Can't decide whether this looks like a baby carraige or a wheel chair.
Why does it seem impossible to make this technology look cool? Why would people want to buy something that makes them look and feel like a dork? That's why Segways aren't catching on with the general public.
I'd rather walk than look like a laughingstock. I'd rather even catch the bus! But the moment Segway designs something decent, I'm buying it.
Doesn't need 2 seats. The short wheel base is interesting for parking but the width gives it otherwise no advantage in traffic over a scooter, which you could just as easily put a cover on. If it was narrow enough it might be possible to take it inside your home if you dont have a garage, like the Segway.
For the people calling this an overpriced wheelchair: Um, no. Wheelchairs can't go as fast as this thing is going. And this doesn't look to me like it's for quadriplegics. I imagine you'd have to have some upper body mobility to get into this thing.
I see a potential problem for people in wheelchairs, though: You'd have no problem steering the P.U.M.A., but what do you do when you *get* to your destination? It doesn't look like this thing has any room in in it for your wheelchair.
oh man, can't wait. i always wondered how i could drive one of those bad ass motorized wheel chairs every day without the hassle of losing full control of my lower limbs, But not anymore!! THANKS SEGWAY! (crap)
I've been thinking what happens when small vehicle like this gets hit by a regular sized care? how safe are thinks like this in car accidents? If this do got hit by a semi or a truck he'd have to kiss his ass good bye
Don't think of it as a small car, obviously. Think of it as a small transport, like your bike, or even in an intermediary category of its own. It's much safer than your regular bike, I'm sure of that, at least's it's got a cage with safety bars all over.
why dont we make an invention that has 2 wheels, and it uses your energy to power itself, making you much more efficient? wait, they did that 100 years ago, its called a bicycle!
@danmu theyre only slow if youre a damn couch potato. theyre also not an inconvenience if the people riding them have something resembling a brain. so basically its no good for fat idiots. which might explain your problem with them
@pepene93 fat idiots? no brains? haha...I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were 12. When you're old enough to get your license and can get on the road with adults, you'll understand why children shouldn't have such toys on the roads as they are indeed a danger to everyone. The most dangerous ones, of course, the the fruity spandexers who like to wear everyone's brands on them (as if they're pro or something). They usually ride in packs of 5-10 and hide out in the middle of curves on rural roads.

Forget about traditional cars. Car manufacturers will make you believe that you have to use their spacy heavy fast vehicles. It sounds nice but it's not true. Look at US car industries: its mostly a desaster now. The European will follow soon.
... after all, this is a pilot only. Want to know, what the first Mercedes looked like? If you want things to be more stylish and protective, then google for aerorider or go-one or velombiles. All nearly handmade with human power or electric assist. No GM in the background. These might not make it. And they have one more drawback: only one person. Here in Europe the average persons in a car is 1.3. Thats why the Smart has two seats. Want to know what people said about it, when it was introduced?
THOSE WHO WISH TO RIDE THIS RIKSHA HAVE BEEN WARNED, IF I SEE U IN THE STREET, U WILL GET RUN OVER, along with the 20 million others who will follow me........ spread this around
Until the rest of the dumbass drivers of large vehicles are off the road, that thing is a two-wheeled tinfoil death trap. Today and for the foreseeable future, that thing is useful and SAFE only in a community of sidewalks and bicycles. You'd be a complete moron to drive that around a city like Phoenix, Detroit, LA, etc. Get real. Great TOY. Stupid and dangerous way to navigate between 2-ton and 5-ton vehicles.
Damn Right. It's fucking moronic. What a fucking waste of engineering and valuable time. Fuck. why did they simply not use a golf cart platform and have all the feature this has for 100 times less effort and cost. What about when the thing breaks down. What about the wasted batery life balancing this. What about emergency breaking!
Here's an idea, why not use a freaking pogo stick for cheap hurban transport!!! The goverment will give me million in grants and I can laugh at the way to the bank.
Well, folks, all your questions about safety, style and equipment will be answerd the next decades. As it was with early 4w-cars, a century ago. But in principle view, this is a big step in mobile evolution. This ll be a surviver of mobile crisis. I m convinced. Great work! Whoever persons brought it to life. Thumbs up. More of this plz
I could build a pile of crap like this from PVC pipe and one of those electric Rickshaws. Seriously these guys went to engineering school. I hope the Chevy Volt is as good as they say cause this thing is a pile
Looks cool, energy efficient touring wheelchair..do you need license plates to drive it?, would it stand impacts and collision, awkward steering, maybe a joystick for manual mode?, and a computer programmed to go home and via GPS/ without driver interference..and a
This thing is cool and all and certainly an engineering feat, but personally I think it makes very little sense to have something like this with two wheels. A third wheel makes it much more stable, cost effective, and unlike it's cousin version that requires you to stand this isn't near as easy to store. Good luck with this, but outside of the very nerdy science market I really don't see much buying potential in this vehicle.
This looks credible and could very well be the future of transport. Couple this with an automated driving system, internet broadband, LCD screen and surround sound speakers. Kick in a little more for the lazyboy recliner option and your riding in style!

... after all, this is a pilot only. Want to know what people said about it, when it was introduced?

take a look at this picture, note that there are two people.

@socialsuicide621 ... uhm... pretty late on it: I was comparing with velomobiles, which have only one seat.

For real, this thing is really awesome. If they could get it going high-speed this is like a great alternative for cars =P
Seriously, how many "soccer moms" do you see driving SUVs around town with no one in them? What a waist of gas! This is a GREAT idea!
