Just curious, but does anyone know why they decided to leave out the 5th part? Did they think it was too much like the 7th? Or is there an overall time limit in the medley that they were trying to stay under?
their is a time limit for medleys but they were under it as the previous 3 years. they did not leave any parts out. every time i have heard this tune be played it has only ever had 7 parts i think its just a 7 parted tune which is a little ackward but who knows or maybe then everyone who plays it as a band tune in their medley or for a solo hornpipe jig or something may just play 7 parts of it.the only real way to find out would be to ask someone who knows it how many parts theyre actually are
I've always heard of Fiddler's Rally as "arranged by" Gordon Walker, not "composed by. The former is probably more accurate. Obviously you can't play most fiddle tunes directly on the pipes, we only have 9 notes to work with. This tune is deceptively easy to learn, but almost impossible to get up to speed on. I'm always amazed that they can manage to get a whole band in sync.
FMM had played their new medley at several championships prior to the Worlds. It wasn't as well received as their old one, so they went with what they thought would win... and it did. Good move. And I could listen to this medleya hundred times... it's awesome. I really don't care what they play, when they sound that damn amazing.
i can only say that's what is meant for you will not pass you by. deserved world champions and you know it, unfortunately the politics don't always speak the truth. it's about time the ones who feel particular allegiance to other bands realised that talent can't be stopped and shouldn't be subject to bribes or compliments to soothe their ego. opposition must realise that talent will always beat corruption hands down. think about it.. oh that's right.. you can't!
"Fiddlers Rally" is really "The Scottish Fiddle Orchestra" composed and written by my brother Ian Campbell from Queensland Australia. You will find this tune in Ians book "The Balfour Collection" This tune was never composed by Gordon Walker, Ian gave Gordon a copy of this tune when he was out here in Australia.
no RMM was the tightest in piping, and the snares supported the whole band very well, along with the midsection, so basically RMM was the best ensemble and performance wise, even though many diehard SFU fanes may think SFU is the only good band
For medley??? though it was selection of the bands choice for medley, so why was it published in the programe they were playin a different medley. either way, same selection for the last three years. a grade one band of this standard are better than that and shouldn't be aloud get away with it.
I think you will find that only the MSR is drawn at the line. Selection IS entirely the choice of the pipe band. It was probably a bit of gamesmanship... In any event supremely well played selection, but I was disappointed not to hear new music.
Superb performance all round, and deserving of top spot -- as testified by the huge cheers that went up. I wonder, though, why did FMM not play the selection that was posted in the programme? I'd have loved to hear a new selection rather than revisit last year's medley.
This was the winning medley but they were robbed.

Great band, I didn't particularly like their medley this year although the change of key in Mrs Macleod of Raasay was cool.

Shotts had the winning medley btw.

No rules against it, unless you're a judge, you can't really say that shouldn't be aloud to get away with it.
