im trying to swap out my hd with a 250gb hd from my dell inspiron 1525 what wil happen to the files on the hd from my g4 and the hd from my dell?

you will loose the files as the MAC OS runs on a different file format. For this to be used in a MAC you will have to "format" the hard drive with the mac utility.

Ahh. memories !. Replacing drives in these babies always was quite the evenings entertainment. I suggest that people follow the iFixit instruction from which this vidstructable was clearly taken. Also use a4 paper to stick the myriad of screws on for easy assembly.

@123454d thats cus the schools dont put ram in it or usually they have the small shit and the worst stuff so thats why school ones suck but if you get a 1gb ram card and a new hard drive the ibook should be really fast haha

For some reason i dont have an airport extreme but i still get wireless internet without a dongle or anything! And it says that i have an airport in there! Also it dosent have any ram, But is says that i have 512 MB ram!

Ram port expansion! my wife's G4 was empty until I put in a Gig now it has 1.5Gig... Not an expert about the airport extreme, but I suspect in later iBooks they moved in inside as it became standard! My wife's iBook has an empty bat also and it's been working WiFi for 4 years, also the system config states Airport extreme - It's inside me-thinks!

The airport bay was a G3 clamshell hangover? I've seen g3 clamshells with this hardware config!

My iBook G4 was so poorly put together... The way you're disassembling this one was impossible to do with mine. It makes my old computer look like a joke. I switched to an ASUS G50 and I'm running Ubuntu now. It's so much easier than this hassle.

You should get a new DC-In Board. All you really need to do is remove the bottom of the iBook, remove the metal cooling plate underneath that, use a philips screwdriver to unlatch the DC-in board and unhook it from the logic board, pop in a new one and close it back up. I've seen DC-IN boards for about $30 - $50 online. The hardest part is finding the tabs that keep the back in place.
