I sleep through pretty much everything including fire alarms (which I wouldn't recommend),but when it comes to earthquakes, I'm literally half asleep and I just bolt to the doorway and then process later. ;) I am a human earthquake detector! Process in case of earthquake:

1)the building/ground starts moving/shaking

2)you start to panic- do I scream, run outside, run and get my important stuff before it's to late!!!

3)find a doorway/if you can't find a doorway dive under a table(make sure it's stable), if your outside go to a safe spot where nothing can harm you!!! And if you can't do any of these things GOOD LUCK!

If you're in a high rise, and the building is structurally sound and not on fire then you should stay put. Stay away from the windows and wait to see if the building claxon or building security advises you to leave. That's what I would say. Being afraid after an earthquake is perfectly normal.
