I remember the first time I heard this song, I thought it would have been a great song for Karen Carpenter, not knowing it was Richard's song. I was fortunate to be able to meet The Carpenters after a concert in Philadelphia. Truly great talents! This is a great song - Sally, this one's for you.
richard did this song justice using Dusty to sing this remarkable version but we can only wonder if Karen could've only sung this....but sadly no so a big thumbs up for this
Esta canción me lleva a mis más románticos años de la adolescencia.....es mi canción preferida de TODAS las que escuché en mi vida!!!!! Me hace muy feliz escucharla. Gracias!!!!
this is a beautiful song!!! i remember singing this song on my practicum and here we are by gloria stefan and still this songs bring beautiful memories from the past and will bring beautiful memory in the future!!!
I'll tell ya...this is one of my favorite songs to slow dance too and NO ONE..NO ONE can sing it like Dusty! Rest in peace, dear lady! Those of us who appreciate a TRUE vocalist miss you very much!
This past Christmas, I read an unbelievable quote from Dusty in the new book which lists every studio and live song she ever performed, together with her comments per song from over the years. For this song, she had a sore throat, did the take anyway without all the overdubs that Richard subsequently put on...and then regretted hearing it, thinking that if she'd been able to do a retake, she could have made her final vocal take much more majestic.
I have nothing against with Dusty Springfield (2 thumbs up!) but I feel this song is more suitable for Karen's voice. R.Carpenter is a meaningful composer of all-time.
Richard Carpenter is a class act all the way. I feel like he's been a friend of mine my whole life, and the same with Barry ... thanks, guys, for all the music.
This is an excellent song. I think one reason it wasn't bigger (aside from the transition of the decade of the 1980s) is that it served as a haunting reminder of what was.
Dusty does a great job on the song but yes I often wonder how Karen's beautiful voice would work it's magic on this song.Unfortunately we will never know...
Love to hear this song with Karen's voice... I thought there was a karen version voice, that's why i keep searching..till i read your comment.. thanks for the info... i am fan of karen carpenter..
No this song was not written for Karen. You might be thinking of IN LOVE ALONE sung by Dionne Warwick, that Richard and John Bettis had written for Karen, and they wanted Karen to come and hear it, but it was raining quite a lot and Karen did not want to drive there...this was in in late 1982...and there never was another time for her to hear it before she passed. Dusty though, does a lovely job of SOMETHING IN YOUR EYES....
wow!!! i used to sing this song way back highschool and i still love singing this up until now....lucky enough i still sound good.he...he...he.. i really feel connected w/ this song.
@szhaya Me too! I just listened to this for the first time since high school and it REALLY brought the memories back. I forgot all about it until I heard something about Dusty Springfield and was trying to remember what the song was I loved.
This was an amazing song. I first discovered it by buying Richard Carpenter's CD when I saw Dusty was singing on it. Too bad it never made it big but I will always remember it.
This is one of the many songs where you can hear the instrument of her voice and that phrasing and diction that was edible as the apple she was seen taking a bite from on one of the many pictures... By the way I first heard this one night on late night radio station and raved about it to everyone but no one believed me. Yet it would be impossible for any one to mistake such a voice and the Lady it belonged to.
@LukeNGood369 So many performers today have "cookie cutter" voices - they all sound alike! I miss the days when you could turn on the radio and recognize a singer's voice within the first few notes. There are no distinctive voices like Dusty Springfield, Karen Carpenter, Dionne Warwicke, and Petula Clark on the radio anymore. "American Idol" makes it worse by requiring singers to sing different genres. Unfortunately, a lot of good singers with distinctive styles has been eliminated that way.
@LukeNGood369 This was an amazing song, I first heard it when I saw the CD in the store and just bought it because Dusty was singing on it. Too bad it never really made it but I will always remember it.
thank you for posting this been forever since heard it such a wonderful song and showing another great talent that has left this world. When entering it my great memory forgot the title age is a terrible thing. Again thank you.
Here we have the chance to see a music genius in the middle of creating a wonderful song.
Supervising the musicians, playing the piano, guiding Dusty Springfield who had a marvelous voice, and even singing the background vocals. Is there something this man can't do?
Remarkable work from Richard Carpenter and I also join to the people who can imagine Karen singing this song with her signature potent reading which always captivated us.
Dusty's best late-career recording. She's at her pinicle with Richard Carpenter's production. This is also a spectacular video NB: Dusty wasn't credited on the original recording, but we all knew.
this was one of the most most beautiful songs from the 80s so romantic and so moving richard carpenter was and still is a great musician.the carpenters rocked
Love this song and everything that Richard and Dusty does. Check out Dusty doing 'All cried Out' Live on Sullivan. Thanks Richard for keeping Dusty in the spotlight. She was a talent that only Karen could compare to. I miss them both. If there is a rock and roll heaven...they have a hell of a band !!!
I love the way Dusty gestured while she sang "I'ld recognize each curve and line of you, I knew it well!" Only a person who experienced love can appreciate this song.
I never heard of thsi song till I got it on 7 inch single last Sat for 20p, and I have to say its one of the most gorgeous songs ever, and its one of my all time faves,
GREAT SONG! OMG, this is so touching! why can't music of nowadays be this good again???? what has happpend? I wish Karen was still alive she was the best female singer in history, although Dusty does a great job at this song too. WOW just magical!
I've only seen this video just now, although, honestly I've known this song for a long time.. I've heard this song a couple of times in the radio..
As I watched this video, I was captivated by Dusty.. the way she sang, the way she put her emoitions thru her music..its really sad to know that she's not with us anymore
Ms.Dusty, you are truly missed and thnks for the music..
To Richard Carpenter, I salute you sir! you really knew how to make real CLASSIC music..
@voiceofelijah2012 youmight have American Idol but soon you will also have a new programme called X-Factor which is being done by Simon Cowell, aren't you lucky. Yet more reality TV to commit suicide over, lol!
@voiceofelijah2012 , I agree... seems like the music in this generation seems really odd to me :( they don't have the "wow" effect that I can hear every time I listen to Karen's and Dusty's voices
I have always loved this song and I have to wonder if it could have been the one that would have relaunched the Carpenter's had Karen surrived her heart attack in 1983... While Dusty does a beautiful job here.. I can only imagine Karen's potent reading... One thing is for sure Richard brought in a one of the best replacements when he chose Ms. Springfeild. May she and Karen rest in peace..
I couldn't agree with you more. I read that Karen idolized Dusty Springfield's voice, as so many others did. Both ladies had remarkable phrasing and emotion. And what voices !!
one of the TIMELESS voice of all time 5 star and 2 thumbs up for this
