I still think this is one of the coolest theme songs ever to be written, composed, arranged and made. Mission Impossible is another one of the coolest themes, too, but I just LOVE to listen to all the little instrument nuances going on in this song, and the piano-makes my fingers hurt just listening to the piano part! Love this song!
I was born in 1955 and watched this program and other wonderful shows like "Mission Impossible". My father always laughed at how much I was into the theme music as well as the actual plots of these innovative and totally entertaining dramas. With "Route 66" I would do a(n) interpretive dance of wind rushing through my hair, and with "Mission Impossible" a modern dance with "pointed guns and karate chops". I was young and I think this era was
The composition that set the tone for that great period the 60s along with the magnificent seven theme. If we appear to have a twinkle in our eyes when we hear such REAL music forgive us we actually lived through this great time in our history a time one had to be there to appreciate it. God thank you.
@compsecure77 ; Oh yeah, baby! I (b.1951) think this was the greatest time to be in! Young, full of promise, Kennedy's new frontier, the space age, Brubek, hip comedians, cool jazz, traditional folk, spy shows, people with class....to me, "Austin Powers: Man of Mystery" should've won Best Documentary !
Summer of '62, I was 15 going on 16 y/o, & In Denver, '" The Big Boss, Steve Reisn", ON 1280 KTLN,. played this every 10 minutes--or so it seemed. This, & " Strangers On The Shore" & " Alley Cat", were THE instrumentals of the day. What times they were. Wolfsky9, 64 y/o .
Just sit back and listen...What great times. We were teenagers and had so much fun travelling around. It was a more peaceful world. Not "perfect", but we had great friends, good games to play and didn't get lost in the cacophony of electronics and cell phones. We actually went out and spent time with friends. Oh well..

Is it weird that at times that I wish I was a 23 year old bachelor in the early 60s?
If only more people my age listened to stuff like this.

Great tune of the "Mother Road".
I like Bobby Troup's "Route 66", but Nelson's "Route 66" is cool and "jazzy".
