  • more like Nobel piss prize as they give their prize to the none-deserving! good stuff though

  • Beautiful music from a beautifully talented artist!

  • LOVE ESPERANZA!!!! <3

  • Does Obama always have to look so snobbish in every clip he's in? Seriously--who enjoys a whole performance with their chin all in the air?

  • Meandering, weak, tuneless...altogether punishing to endure

  • This gave me chills

  • hey, Esperanza, do you realize that you played for the Nobel War Price ? As writen in "1984", these words mean the opposite of what they really mean !!! Barack (as G. W. Bush) makes war everywhere on the planet ! I hope you know, i hope you'll refuse next time! (sorry for my english)

Esperanza, you're like an angel, thank you for your music!

  • Esperanza......WILL YOU RAPE ME? PLEEEEASSSEEEE???

  • @BermudaEntrepreneur

Please, she is a woman of class. She does not rape, she makes love.

  • @FuryoftheSound Oh....*ahem* I'm sorry, excuse me. Esperanza can I make love to you? Pleeeeaaaseee?

    *Probably ain't gonna happen*

  • beta 58s are the shit

  • Wow

  • This song is very powerful in this message. I wonder if it was written for President Barak or with him in mind so many powerful statements made "The road to peace is endless and the journey with open eyes is how will mend this"

  • @garywifetj sorry, but what's the name of the song?

  • obama fancies her ...... LOL

  • <3 her

  • I suspect the politicians you're referring to fully understand the issues, including the complexities of trying to keep people on both sides of the difficult issues from coming to fisticuffs. Imagine how difficult it would be to have 49% of the people hating your guts, and 51% thinking you could do no wrong. How long could you withstand it until you lashed out at the former? As for their understanding jazz; that's another matter.

  • politicians simply learn to feel only on the inside when on tv. the outside must remain stoic. lol. that is the halls of power for ya

  • Hahahaha, not one bobbing head or any physical indication of enjoyment in the entire audience bahahahahaha. We. Must. Appear. Distinguished.

  • @cruxofthebisquite22 Perhaps. Maybe they are all just super stoned and really into it.

  • политики сидят со скучными минами и нифига не понимают. А жаль... может это помогло бы им измениться.

Politicians sit with their boring faces and looks like they understand nothing. Because they just can't. It's a pity ... maybe it would help them change.

  • @fedalxis They have no soul.

  • @Phoenixspin

    Who?

  • @Phoenixspin The Politicians who sit with their boring faces and looks.

  • I have been looking forever for a live version of this song! So good!

  • this woman's raw talent has just DESTROYED me...! low on money right now, but i am getting an album, oh.... YESterday. i want to watch another vid of her, but i don't know if i can handle it right now!:^D i thought that the Letterman clip that i watched before this was mindblowing. then i saw THIS.... little girls of the world? Esperanza Spalding is who you want to grow up to be...!;^)

  • sounds gret but.. those r sum weird faces she makes while singing

  • @sm1Ley50 you're probably not moved by music like some people that's why you don't understand.

  • Superb soprano/basso lady!

  • Proof that politicians are lifeless beings. They don't move, groove, or show any real emotion during this performance.

  • its not a concert dumbass

  • @newtongs I didn't say that it was...

  • the drummer is talking on his cell phone on 2.20

  • This is so cool. I mean who sings with a base guitar? Very creative and unique is what I love about her...

  • @lllllllllllllll88 A lot of people sing with a bass guitar, Paul McCartney from the Beatles,Geddy Lee from Rush, lead singer from Blink 182. But Esperanza doesn't play guitar, she plays the acoustic double bass.

  • She did it slower here

  • The drummer for this performance is Lyndon Rochelle. The Pianist is Leo Genovese, who is currently touring with Esperanza. This is live performance in Norway at the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony.

  • That is not Otis Brown on this performance. That is Mr Lyndon Rochelle. He played with Esperanza for the majority of the time she was at Berklee and after. He is one of the best drummers that I've ever heard.

  • at 2'56" reminds me of "baixa do sapateiro", Brazilian tune.

    Beautiful song.

  • A little to hollywood for my tastes

  • Best thing she's ever done to her voice is swap that SM58 mic for a KSM9. Her voice is just too rich, she deserves more. Incredible woman.

  • ....Once every 15 Billion Light Years ( and more) a STAR is BORN......In this Life time, they gave her the Name ...ESPERANZA SPALDING !..

  • One word: WOW.

  • o engessado do obama nem se mexe... tá odiando....

  • Barack is nodding in reflected glory..

  • i love the inflection of her voice, how she accentuates certain words in each line make each song an experience. She creates this emotional connection with the listener (at least me) that make every line come alive inside of you.

  • The beginning could seem a bit boring, but It gets better and better, a powerful voice, and the piano is perfect. New artist, great artist

  • I love her style, sound, character, etc. This is my favorite song by her but I just wish there was a slower version of it like this available to buy. Anyone resting on her is missing out. She is definitely here to stay not only in the jazz world but in music period.

  • Comment removed

  • why is her voice expressing a deep experiences of life.....even though i don't know the lyrics I still can clearly hear a story, a story with feelings flowing so naturally. 'm encouraged by her bird-like singing, with joy and hope and passionate about life!! Thanks God

  • They didn't give Dubya a Nobel, not because he liked to start wars to hook up no-bid contracts, but because he would have had Toby Keith playing the event. lol.

  • And Barack's like, "tight"

  • I was thinking the same thing President. What would it take to get her in my oval office.

  • She is wonderful.Listen all you dead sons of bitches .

  • so i literally felt something surge through me at 2:57. Like wow. ..really wow. There's something so enchanting about her.

  • OBAMA IS A WAR CRIMINAL!!!

  • @cfini72

Fool, go back to your Tea Party!

This isn't about Obama, it's about Esperanza....

  • Amazing and splendid

  • @twb716 Are you sure that drummer isn't Lyndon Rochelle?

  • Comment removed

  • cool, chilling, full of groove!

  • @twb716 That's not Otis.

  • Powerful performance. From a powerful performer. Mesmerizing!!

  • She is absolutely Fabulous. :-)

  • Thank you for this great great preformance of a very talanted lady. She is

truely blessed by angles. btw thank you twb716 I will be shopping for Esperanzas music.

The journal to Peace is Endless..indeed.

  • Wow this crowd was dead fish. She was magical as always.

  • @rsimmonswk The crowd was only "dead fish" because the ceremony isnt one where you can hoot and holler just because Ms Spalding is performing. Many of them are probably members of her target audience. A lady Gaga concert you get excited and party.... When listening to Esperanza you WANT to put your energy into listening

  • white conservative aristocrats have no room in their hearts for jazz, its all taken up by the yearnings of greed and self glorification. Never seen people so unmoved by something so incredibly moving in my life.

  • someone be sure to breed with this woman.

  • This song is "Espera" from her Esperanza release. You can listen/buy from her online store.

  • could someone help me with the name of this song? pleaseee, it's a masterpiece! I had it before but i dont remember the name and i couldnt find it in my library! THANKS!

  • Voice, Bass and beauty. She was given three gifts.

  • She's so adorable!

  • mantafff

  • Hey the drummer is not otis brown, its Lyndon Rochelle!!

  • This song captivated me. It has so much life and force and faith in the greater good of all mankind. Beautiful message.

  • @twb716 A masterpiece!

  • you can see obama saying right after, "that was good. what's her name?"

    hahahaha

  • I enjoy the hair cut of the piano player, ha ha!!, un abrazo Leo!!

  • Just hand her the Nobel prize, it's in good hands. Trust me!

  • An amazing young artist with tremendous talent!!!

  • eres genial esperanza....un saludo desde Colombia!!!!!!!!

  • shes a jazz musician with an amazing voice. haha she tight.

  • She is Amazing!! LOVE her!!

  • It's "Espera" from her Self-titled CD, Esperanza. You can listen to it and get it on her online store.

  • Does anyone know the name of this song and is it an Esperanza original? I can't seem to find this info anywhere on the web! Thanks ~Amanda

  • I have seen Esperanza live a couple of times ...but THIS is my favorite performance by her (so far)! I don't recognize the pianist and drummer though. Can anyone tell me who they are and also if this is part of the Nobel Prize ceremony in Norway?

  • she is amazing. this was breathtaking and beautiful.

  • singing jazz sounds so hard..

  • @inflames: thank you for being willing to have an open mind. when you only listen to one type of music, you definitely miss out on all that's out there.

i like ms. spaulding, and i also like some metal! and punk, and country, and classical, and....LOL!

    peace.

    : )

  • A collaboration between young jazz trumpeter David Dunbar (google) in Denmark and Esperanza would be off the charts. He is also host of the Maddog and Dave TV show. They could be called The Essie & Dave collabo.

    -------Baton Rouge, LA

  • The most chill 7/8 ever played :D

  • @AlexRaykin RIGHT?!? =D aaaaaaah

  • Esperanza Spalding:

    オバマ大統領がノーベル平和賞を受賞したときのPerformanceです。

  • nice hair hahahahahaaha...... one of the best talents!!

  • Like an Angel playing the Harp.

  • I'm a very closed minded person. I ONLY listen to metal. For those who don't know what that is, very, very heavy, very fast, and very angry lyrics. Lots of swearing usually. But, this song is still amazing. Nice to see what I've been missing out on all this time.

  • @inflames255 real music is real music regardless of genre. We can all agree on that

  • @inflames255 That's because you have a connection to true art. Just because it's loud and obnoxious and very fast and offensive doesn't mean it's not reaching the audience it was designed to reach and communicate the life giving enrichment and power in the tool of music.

  • @inflames255 It us quite common for metal fans to start listening to jazz, especially those of the prog genre

  • @inflames255 I only like one type of music : good.

  • Who the freak disliked this

  • All I can say is.....WOW!!!!!!!

  • How many out there forgot that they loved Jazz...lots I wuold imagine

  • Would be great....Esperanza and Yo Yo Ma

  • CONGRATS BEST NEW ARTIST GRAMMY AWARD WINNER 2011 !!!!!!!

  • Beautiful!!

  • She is so pretty, and her voice is amazing! She's my new favorite Jazz singer! Anyone know where she's from? I didn't think she was American...

  • 1 person is obviously bitter that Obama won the Prize. Flawless Performance.

  • 1 person is a beiber fan... get over it she deserved it

  • Soulful...

She sounds like she belongs back in the 30's and 40's with Lady Sings The Blues singers. Pretty cool. My Mom would love her.

  • OMG, what song is this??

  • @MistyCallsKingdra1 The song is called Espara from her album Esparanza

  • @MistyCallsKingdra1 The song is called Espara from her album 'Esparanza'

  • not that i think she doesn't deserve the grammy or anything, but i've known about her for years now. what does it take to qualify as a new artist?

  • the Prez looks like hes in LOVE

  • Get it GIRL!!!

  • It's a reaffirming Light to ALL REAL Artists that The Grammy's rewards REAL TALENT!!! CONGRATS to ESPERANZA SPAULDING -Best New Artist !!!

  • What is the song?

  • What an inspirational beauty!

The bass, the message, the spirit, the face,

the voice and harmony, power and grace.

Shame she was wasted on such boring stiffs,

who do not deserve to be offered such riffs.

But I hope Esperanza is smiling tonight,

so that somebody somewhere is filled with her light.

  • what song is this?

  • President Carter got the peace prize too. You know Obama was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize twelve days after taking office. Upon acceptance of winning it, Obama was praised by the committee, "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy". . They also gave the peace prize to Yasser Arafat, the leader of the PLO, the best known terrorist organization on the globe. This is like giving it to David Duke, the former Grand Wizard of the KKK.

  • Love Esperanza... Those folk in audience could not even begin to OverStand her.

  • I'm in love....no words..... wow

  • when she first started sing her voice wasn't nearly this strong. This girls growing leeps and bounds over the years. Gotta love it. Great job Ez...

  • she is the coolest!

  • Thank you President Obama, so glad you were honored with the Nobel Peace Prize you deserve it !!!!!

  • Esperanza is god.

  • Esperanza is great - Great koncert in Copenhagen last weekend

  • whos on piano???

  • .........................................

  • I love this women, she is so talented.

  • oooh man she played in front of obama, i would of been soooo nervous lol she such a great musician and has a beautiful voice her and lalah hataway should do a song

  • elite music for elite event...

  • I've come to appreciate Obama even more for his distinctive good taste in music.

  • @airasweetie I don't usualy do this but.....Mr. President didn't start the war.

  • love miss spalding! but barack obama got nothing to do there. the nobel prize also include a peace prize and i dont think that a president that´s throwing a war against other countries can qualify to have the right to be there. go home fucking asswhole! come back when you are solving your countries problems without war.

  • @airasweetie

Let's keep in mind that Mr. Scumbag, aka George W. Bush is the one that started this and that President Obama is not entirely faulty for being unable to resolve a complication so quickly. So lets not be so quick minded if you please.

  • Astounding... just; I'm sorry, I don't have the words! I'm so overwhelmed by her emotion and grace I could cry... no joke.

  • I love this f*cking song!

  • The supposed peace prize might of been a joke, but Esperanza Spalding is the real deal.

5 Heart Rating all the way ♥♥♥♥♥

    "Real" Peace Love Groove

    MUSIC TELEVISION

  • @musictelevision Sometimes the prize is given for a body of work (Doctors without borders, Jimmy Carter), sometimes to encouragement to continue on a path. That was the case with Rabin, Perez, and Arafat in 1994. They had begun the peace process, and the committee wanted to encourage them to continue the peace process.

The peace process was sabotaged by Sharon bringing armed troops onto the Dome of the Rock. It was an election year provocation that started another round of violence.

  • @musictelevision

the nobel peace prize ain't no joke and both the choice of the committee who elected him as that year's winner and that his choice was Esperaza Spalding singing this song in particular speaks volumes.

peace, love and groove that's "real" IS ... it don't have to be labeled its just the god's honest truth in the artist's eyes thus real.

It is exceptional artists such as Esperanza Spalding who are able to articulate the human condition so well

she also gets 5 stars from me.

  • @iowarican - The U.S. is still a war mongering, interventionist, imperialst nation under the leadership of the the supposed Peace Prize winner. Dropiing bombs of benevolence all over the Middle East.. God bless Esperanza for challenging the leaders in the audience when she sang the line "I Almost Believe". She obviously had not completely bought into the hype. Good for her. She is a thinker, not a sheep.

  • @musictelevision

i hope you find peace, i concentrate on peace and feel no need to discuss how this country has been in the war business for many years before he was president or how it was the former president that started the current conflict. I believe in peace and hope i always will. god bless you and no doubt god has blessed esperanza spalding, the beauty of her humanity speaks to my belief.

    Peace!

  • @musictelevision the truth is a lot murkier in the Middle East than we think... as proven in the Wikileaks memos...

  • @musictelevision LIEZ!

  • @musictelevision Might have*

  • whats the name of this song

  • always, always beautiful.

  • Wow, what can I say? She's perfect.

  • Wow .. is it me... or is that audience dead??? So much soul from this beautiful being ... to a soul-less crowd.

  • @RightoJoe i was thinking the same. they seemed so uncomfortable by her presence.

  • @RightoJoe well of course its a soulless crowd...its a bunch of politicians. probably the only one with a soul is obama.rofl. XD

  • Now that is a real trio in every sense of the word and of course, this young lady was certainly born to do it. God Bless you Eperanza.

  • Esperanza is beautiful and a truly nice human being in addition to being talented! I'm so glad to view her videos! I'm a big fan
