It isn't ridiculous at all. I've studied aikido since I was a young boy and these exercises have helped me rehab injuries that simple "push" training never can.
You use the ball because its instability means your having to use all sorts of muscles just to stay on the ball as well as the muscles used doing normal push ups
But with an all out effort, those muscles are used anyway and to a better sports-specific capacity in squats and deadlifts, negating the need for stability push ups.
you tell him his techniques are ridiculous. personally i think considering hes a world class professional fighter they must work at least a little. all the sports are using those balls now they are fantastic

This is ridiculous.
Why not just do normal push ups? Stabilizers are developed just fine with them.
