Another AIDS martyr. Too bad because I always like his bass playing. Remember AIDS is 99% caused by BEHAVIOR. Thus, if the behavior that causes AIDS was eliminated, so would the disease. Remember: Every penny donated to AIDS causes is a penny that WON'T go to more worthy causes such as Cancer, Cystic Fibrosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Parkinson's and Alzheimers.
It saddens me that society considers a real mental disorder (homosexuality) normal or socially acceptable. Sure, there are some that choose this "lifestyle" and they probably need more psychic evaluation than a homosexual that is genuinely afflicted with this...let's face it, mental disease. Look at it logically...a man cannot procreate with another man...neither a woman with a woman. It isn't in our design, whether you believe in a God (god) or Darwin or both. This is "normal" but OCD isn't...
This book was a huge disappointment, not just because of Chuck's gayness (gross), but because of the fact that his gayness is almost all he wrote about in it.I wanted to read about the formative years and experiences of Styx from a founding member, and that was minimal. Some of his "facts" were even WRONG, and HE WAS IN THE DAMN BAND! In describing Kilroy Was Here, for instance,he refers to DeYoung's character as Dr. Kilroy, and misrepresents the KWH story. Now if only Dennis would write a book...

accept Christ as your saviour Chuck, while you still can. Do not be foolish, there is a heaven and there is a hell... and only one way to escape the coming judgment and hell and that is only through Jesus Christ.... Romans 10:9-10
@gHoStsOfTheHollow Chuck was a Catholic. An altar boy, and attended seminary for a year. People like you told him he will go to hell since he realized he was gay. But he has a response: "Worry about your own afterlife."
@2333jim those things cannot buy eternal life. going to church does not save you from judgment. repenting and accepting Christ does. He has been on his way to hell since day 1, not because he is gay but because he is a born sinner.. as we all are. So if he was in a house that was on fire and I had the opportunity to go in and point him the way to safety so that he would not be burned.. you would stop me and say "worry about your own life"?????
I had their albums in 1977-1980. In those days, the ultra trim, very short hair cut was nearly unheard of in rock, maybe punk, etc. but not rock. It was usually a clear givaway as to someone being gay. So I knew he was gay then, but I don't care, since Styx' music is great, and I treat everone with the same degree of respect.
You are a class act Chuck, my nephew has HIV andit frightens me that in the 21st century people are hiding who they are because of public opinion. It was brave of you to stand up and be counted Chuck. We need more decent people like you in the world.

Calling all heterosexuals to come out of the closet and tell everyone that your heterosexual....I'm sick of people thinking they have to tell the world that they're gay..I'm going to write a book about being a heterosexual and how great it is..All heterosexuals repeat after me: I'm not gay and I am proud" Defeat heterophobia!!
No one will ever beat you for not being gay.. Typical christian mercy. Christ laid hands on a leper, try actually being a christian and not just giving it lip service. Jesus walked the walk, you don't.
I never new that he was gay,but that does not matter to me! I go back to those days, and all I remember was the love I had for his music!! God bless you Chuck!!! I am still deeply saddened by the passing of your brother John
Best rock show I ever attended in my entire life was on January 12, 1978. Out of the 400 or so I've seen since none surpassed the power, fun, surprise and magic: Styx, Grand Illusion. I hadn't come out yet and for some reason keep looking at the bass player. After seeing this video just now I know why..30 years later.
you are amazing and I respect you more now!

He wasn't as closeted as he thought. When I was a freshman in high school (1979-80) I heard rumors. I decided even then that it didn't matter.
I have the book. Great read.

Have you met the woman whos shocked by two women kissing
and in the same breath, tells you she's pregnant?
BUT gays, shouldnt be blatant.
Or the straight couple who sit next to you in a movie and you cant hear the dialogue because of the sound effects.
BUT gays shouldnt be blatant.
And the woman in your office, spends your whole lunch hour
talking about her new bikini drawers and how much her husband likes them.
BUT gays shouldnt be blatant.
