@jmar505 No, but it's thrilling and a lot of fun. They had some very cool ideas like the use of fire and GTA like open world in central park with driving cars and setting baddies on fire. the later released PS3 Version "Inferno" is bug free. For 10 bucks you can get it now, and it's worth.

@jmar505 It is + it has action... but dont be expecting shotguns, and machineguns... all u get is a pistol, then u get around with tools, such as axes, fire extinguishors, cocktails and other stuff that u can make. If ur interested get PS3/Xbox version (or PC), dont get PS2.

@abktuzfuck Actually, Alone in the Dark for PS2 is completely different. Then comes Wii version with the use of those controllers. Its a different feel but still very bad rated. PC seems to have some terrible gameplay. XBOX360 is a good version BUT PS3 INFERNO version is the best, with bugs fixed and extra content. CHECK OUT MY INFERNO REVIEW whoever gets curious to see...

Too bad the game itself wasn't all that great. I still remember the god forsaken part near the beginning of the game when you had to drive the car through the city as it was being torn apart.

My god, that was one of the hardest, and most frustrating moments I have had in any game. The controls were really bad for it, and sometimes it'd glitch and other problems would arise.

It would have been the best part if it hadn't been so damned luck-based. It could have been an epic, heart-pounding set-piece, but instead it quickly turned into a trial-and-error restart-fest you were lucky to get through in ten tries. Regardless of how good you are at driving, if you didn't memorize exactly what order stuff happened in you could lose just from bad luck. Even then, the random movements of other cars could easily **** you, too. It was terribly designed.

@antsache You have got to be kidding me. The first time I played through this game, I got through the driving stage in one try. It's not based on luck at all, it's based on your ability to react to what's going on. The randomness of the level is what makes it exciting, if you were able to predict what was going to happen every time, the level would get boring very quickly. It is a brilliant part of the game and the music just makes it better.

The fact that you were able to get through on the first try while it took plenty of players closer to a dozen just demonstrates the sheer randomness of it. Certain obstacles were avoidable if you reacted well enough, but this was not always the case - the movement of other cars was random, and when paired with narrow pathways, this could easily screw you through no fault of your own. There was a reason this was the second most complained-about segment in the game.

And understand, I'm not saying randomness is inherently bad - only when it makes playing a game frustrating is it bad. Nobody who got stuck behind some stupid AI motorist three times in a row on a one-car-wide ledge, killing them without giving them any real chance to avoid it, is going to say that they enjoyed this part. Consider: they could have made it without the random BS, and everyone would have had your experience. Instead, only some did, and the others got shafted

@antsache Fair enough, I won't lie when I say I did die a couple of times while playing the game again recently, but it's usually because I made a dumb mistake. And in all honesty, the driving stage isn't really that difficult, I never had any problem with the AI, I never encountered any random moments where a car just comes out of nowhere and crashes into me, in fact, the only cars I saw were either easily avoidable or weren't moving at all.

It won't happen every time, and it may be impossible to replicate altogether. It's also possible that they've patched it since launch to make the other cars less aggressive, I don't know, but as it was, there were a LOT of people who had real problems with that part. For some of them, it was undoubtedly just a matter of them sucking at driving, but for others, it was just blind luck. Is it the worse case of this? No, but it certainly was still a problem, regardless.

@antsache The biggest, most recurring problem in the car chase scene, as with all of the first two episodes, was simple minor glitches. Like the utterly ridiculous physics mishaps that cause your car to explode when you scrape something, or bring you to a screeching halt for no apparent reason.

@antsache And while I agree that randomness in games is sometimes a bad thing; AitD doesn't have that problem, it's randomizes things just enough to keep me on my toes and aware of what's going on around me, at least, that's what I gathered from playing the level. And yes, not everyone is going to have the same experience as me, my reflexes may be better than other people, but I can say that this is the best part of the game. You're free to have your own opinion, as long as I can have mine :)

That's the problem with randomness as it was implemented in this game, though. It wasn't about you having better reflexes than me. It was about the fact that there are multiple sections of that level where only one car can fit through a gap, and no matter how well you drive there's a chance that an AI-driven car will block that gap. That's an example of randomness completely removing the skill factor from gameplay, which is just bad design, pure and simple.
