At My house, i got up to get a cup of water then suddenly plates fell out and cups.

And then a big shake struck and woke my parents.They were so worried and we\went outside the house.We had to stay awake incase there was an aftershock.

@hyroglyphx I used to live in California. They have some cool little earthquakes. Come to Alaska for the big ones. The largest earthquake in North America was a 9.2 (The Good Friday Earthquake), and is lasted nearly 5 minutes!

This was the first earthquake I can remember being in. My bedroom (St. Louis, Missouri) at the time was in the basement, below ground, and I was asleep. It just started when I woke up. Being underground, I felt the whole thing and from the other side of my walls, it sounded like a freight train coming right at me. I really thought I was gonna die there and I never moved until it ended.

I lived in SE Illinois for 20 years, they call it the "Wabash Valley seismic zone" look it up.

They expect a huge quake there before 2050.

I was awake for some reason during this an we live in a house that is nearly 150 years old. Well my fiance an I were upstairs in our bedroom messing with something and the house started swaying back and forth and she was like OMG whats going on and im like I think we are having an earthquake. The house was literally swaying back and forth though to a point that the neighbors thought it was going to just fall over. This was very exciting to me though cause we live in IL. We dont have quakes, haha

Cracks deep in the earths crust that build up pressure which results in the sudden strong quakes that we received. Specifically look up the New Madrid Fault system. Not where these quakes came from but is very close.
