wow, boyd is an idiot "on other final tables hes fallen apart"
he fell apart here and played like a donk but just got luckier than he did at the other tables
hes all like "i saw all the people i loved over there...and i just couldnt let them down"...wtf ? its not like he did anything different or special. he just got lucky
That was a bad suck out for dutch. He went all in with A 5 off. I think that was a stupid play and Joe did the right thing by calling the all in. Joe is better than dutch but either way good luck to both.
THIS was a skill table for Joe- He accepted the aggression with premo hands.God love him. (Erick Lindgren plays the same way against Bonomo in the 2008 Mixed Holdem WSOP Event.)
the chip lead boyd had was rediculous. getting a potential knockout with a slight disadvantage is worth it and a valid tournament play. even if he did lose a few times (which he did) he'd still be in good shape to win the tournament
regardless, that river 5 was quite the suckout :P
I agree, if you are talking about heads-up play. But look at the previous clips, where Dutch was raising and reraising in obviously bad situations. The hand where Goodman was all-in, and Dutch raised with QJs and drove out Knight and his A2, was a good example. I'm limited to 500 characters so I won't go into all the other mistakes he made.
You are right about heads-up play though. You really need to push a lot preflop, and be willing to call a lot of all-ins preflop also.
You could not have palyed a heads up match worse than Dutch did. However when you have such a dominant chip advantage, odds are you will get one suck out.
At Titanpoker com you still have the opportunity for a short period of time to register with the bonus code MASTER to receive $650 the first time you log in. What a donkey Dutch is seriously! I find myself wanting to throw something at him! When you put your money in every time with the worst of it and eventually get lucky it doesn´t make you a good poker player it makes you a huge fckin donkey! Dutch will NEVER win another bracelet in any event (with the exception of possibly getting lucky at pin the tail on the ......). Not one well played hand during the whole final table. UL Hach
i really dont understand boyd, he said on the interview that he plays as good or better than boyd, so why he takes worst of it so many times and just tries to get lucky once if he thinks hes better?it doesn makes sense to me..
Because 90% of the game is luck... some people are luckier than others. That's what the 99.9% of players that aren't in the final table can't grasp and lose their house, family and life.
i agree they are both pros but hachem has a stronger resume at the WSOP and WPT. hachem has really (post main event win) been unlucky in some of these circuit events.
i dont doubt he is a good player, but Hachem is much, much better. Hachem will go on to be very successful, but boyde? unlikly. ALthough, as said in the comments, he did build up a big stack and hang onto it...but i wonder how much he sucked out during the rest of the tourny...
I've palyed with many, many donkeys, including last night. Dutch Boyd is not appealing to you, personally, but never is he a donkey. He had the ammo to compete in every situation he got into.
Anyone who thinks Dutch Boyd got lucky to win the bracelet is an idiot. The reason he was able to keep taking the worst of it when all in is because he'd built up a chip lead, and he built up a chip lead by playing great poker. That's sound tournament strategy.
Hachem is a great player. But you guys are so dumb! 3 times hachem doubled up, ohh its his skill. But when boyd catches somthing, aww what a loser he got lucky!
But everytime Hachem was all in he didnt suck out he got his money in with the better hand, thats why Boyd is a douche, coz he sucked out to win, every hand hachem doubled up he was the leader anyway so he deserved to.
But he didnt...he caught the cards 3 times! Oh its his skill but when boyd does hes a "douche", your own words are a paradox, hachem is the better player though, but being better does not govern the fall of the cards...
no joke - boyd was playing so scared against hachem...but he did play well prior to heads up obviously. seriously though, boyd's PLEASE-LET-ME-JUST-SUCK-OUT-ONCE strategy is pathetic in terms of the art of poker, but i guess statistically/mathematically, he may have had the right idea...
it was borderline though, see how close he was to giving up the lead? If he missed that his strategy goes out the window and hachem would have had him on the rail.
I used to like Dutch before this but when he said "how many times do I have to put this guy all in" thats just like asking how many times can this guy beat me with the better hand. He just pushes until he gets lucky. That 5 on the river should go down in history as 1 of the biggest suckouts ever
"You said on other final tables, you fallen apart in the past.. what was the difference today?" asks the commentator. The unedited response - "Well i knew Hachem was going to be tough to beat, since he is the better player.. so i decided i'll put him all-in when im behind and hope to suck out eventually. And i did at the last possible moment before i lost my chip lead and would inevitable lose. That, my friend, was the difference today."
I was hard on Dutch in my first couple of posts. The fact is bracelets are important even if in the end bracelets only say that on a given day/s I got lucky. Give it to Dutch that at least he unflinchingly faced this fact. He was up against a better player and he used good tournament strategy to win. And this, in the end, says a lot about tournaments and their real value. In the end we all play along because tournaments and the idea of poker champions brings so much money into this game.
Boyd played this HU match absolutely awful, he was so desperate to win and so impatient. He may have thought that he couldn't outplay Hachem here though and felt like getting all his money in on a 65-35 wasn't too bad for him. Hachem is no joke when it comes to this game. Anybody who thought he was a fluke in 2006 wasn't watching.
Boyd's not so smart. Obviously he cares a great deal what others think of him. He wanted a bracelet so badly that made one desperate move after another until he finally sucked one out. I think anybody who'd take pride in winning a bracelet when he should know that he was out played can't be all that bright--by definition his win only has superficial significance, and only people with a limited rational ability would be seduced in that manner.
you guys are noobs. boyd played smart with the chiplead. sure he had the worst of it four times, but putting hachem all-in for or five times makes it exremely difficult for him to win.
first, boyd picked up a lot of pots with his aggressive all-ins, and secondly even if joe had aces everytime he's still going to have trouble surviving multiple all-ins"
80% X 80% X 80% X 80% X 80% = 26% chance of survival.
now obviously joe wasn't an 80% everytime, so his odds were even worse!
As a poker player you are probably familiar with the Central Limit Theorem. From this theorem we derive the bell curve, which among other things helps us calculate variance in our bankrolls. It also describes IQ distribution. Point being is that 150 not so impressive to me-- it seems everybody I know has an IQ in that range including myself, and half the time I don't even think I am too bright. You say certifiably, I say he was just desperate for a bracelet.
sometimes i enjoy being very precise in my comments on youtube and in online chat in general too, but im just kidding when i say dutch is "crazy--certifiably" because that's the joke he makes since he has been in and out of nuthouses. i guess if im making a point its that it can be fun to joke about stuff people take so seriously online like poker
Overall, Hachem is a much better and more experienced player. But Dutch does know how to read the game and he had used his more chips advantage, aggressive style and keep pressuring strategy to outplay Hachem. Dutch knows if he keeps playing he will lose eventually, so why not take the 50-50 chance to win when the chip advantage is his? That's smart!
im sorry but ducth dutch didnt play the final table well.. ofcourse he keeps busting himself in the final table because he doesnt know how to play one.. moving in with KQ, A5,etc..i knwo its heads up but its the final .. wat on earth will A5 BEAT.. HE HAD TO KNOW HE WAS BEHIND..WITHOUT BEING PATIENT HE lost the plot but the difference this time was that he was luck ..cause of that 5 doesnt come up.. hash takes the lead and ducth loses again
Its not hard to decide who was luckier, Boyd won didn't he!? Not only did he win but he won with the worst of it. There is no question Boyd was luckier.
Hachem was lucky to survive three all-ins, but he did put his money in the middle with the best of it - even in that last hand but as a law of averages will dictate, sooner or later, that 4-outer will hit and you'll be crushed. Although AQ had Dutch dominated and is definitely the position you want to be in Heads Up, I might've tried to wait for a chance to outplay him on the flop rather than chance the bracelet on a coinflip. Might've... Probably not though, AQ is a difficult fold.
the difference wasn't that he couldn't let his family down, the difference was that he gambled just as much this time, but this time he had more chips than the opponent to get lucky with.
theres so much more skill in poker than you realise, yeah luck comes into it bit but its skills why you see the same players making final tables again and again
luck is a big factor in poker... not skills, getting good cards again and again is not luck? eventually you have to gamble sometimes. what about that ten that came on the river, dutch should of had himt here.. but then again, anyone can play poker. it's not always the pro's that win.
yeah but you don't necesarilly need good cards to win key pots, it all depends on the type of player you are playing, luck is a key factor but its not the only one, it's not always gonna be 100% bad luck & 100% good luck
agree, skills can only get you so far in poker... skills is needed to pick up on certain things, for example, how to maximize ur winnings and making the right decisions that will put you ahead giving you the advantage in the current hand.
the rest of it is up to the poker gods (luck) on how they treat you. you make make th right decisions in calling someone's raise with QJ with pockets 8, but you always have to win races that are 50/50. people who say 90% skills and 10% luck have no idea what they are talking about. i would take it the other way around any day and get lucky.
Talk about lucky. Boyd kept calling because he knew he wouldn't be able to outplay Hachem in the long run. This is why there's a lot more luck in poker than people think.
kal96, you are either Dutch Boyds mum, or just another one of the countless losers who think they can play because they know how to go allin in an online freeroll.Even when you tried to make constructive criticism (look it up in a dictionary) you were totally wrong. Hachem played correctly considering his stack size.
In Heads Up A-5 is a great hand, you can't play poker thinking the other guy has a better Ace... Hachem Sucked Out before...they're both great players Period.
Hachem goes all-in 3 times with the best hand and Dutch calls all three times. Dutch does in once with the worst hand and Hachem calls.
Dutch 0-4 Hachem. The rest is luck.
Dutch even calls one all-in because he didn't think Joe looked at his cards. It must be nice to be able to suck out when you don't even pay attention to the hand.
you guys are stupid... yes , hachem been going all in one too many times...so dutch had to call sometimes right? you cant let him win the pot cause he goes all in...geez but if they was to play REAL POKER...dutch would beat him..just watch them play. HACHEM knows he cant beat dutch, so he plays all in..thats what pple usually do duh.
Dutch is the one that went all in with the A5... not to mention putting Joe all in 4 other times significantly behind - Dutch got outplayed and Hachem got robbed.
they were heads up! you can't get any more short handed than that!
you are thinking about short stacked, different thing, and yes Hachem was S/stacked, and its the right play heads up, and you have to be critical of Dutch for being stupid for making ridiculous calls

luck is a big factor in poker... not skills, getting good cards again and again is not luck? eventually you have to gamble sometimes. what about that ten that came on the river, dutch should of had himt here.. but then again, anyone can play poker. it's not always the pro's that win.
TripsZ111 5 years ago
yeah but you don't necesarilly need good cards to win key pots, it all depends on the type of player you are playing, luck is a key factor but its not the only one, it's not always gonna be 100% bad luck & 100% good luck
theiveslikeus 5 years ago
agree, skills can only get you so far in poker... skills is needed to pick up on certain things, for example, how to maximize ur winnings and making the right decisions that will put you ahead giving you the advantage in the current hand.
TripsZ111 5 years ago
the rest of it is up to the poker gods (luck) on how they treat you. you make make th right decisions in calling someone's raise with QJ with pockets 8, but you always have to win races that are 50/50. people who say 90% skills and 10% luck have no idea what they are talking about. i would take it the other way around any day and get lucky.
TripsZ111 5 years ago
you gotta know your opponents, whether you can bluff them, who are the bluffers, who's gonna blow up any moment etc.
yeah those %'s i think only apply to great players, I don't think they hold up against amateurs & novices
theiveslikeus 5 years ago
Talk about lucky. Boyd kept calling because he knew he wouldn't be able to outplay Hachem in the long run. This is why there's a lot more luck in poker than people think.

kal96, you are either Dutch Boyds mum, or just another one of the countless losers who think they can play because they know how to go allin in an online freeroll.Even when you tried to make constructive criticism (look it up in a dictionary) you were totally wrong. Hachem played correctly considering his stack size.

In Heads Up A-5 is a great hand, you can't play poker thinking the other guy has a better Ace... Hachem Sucked Out before...they're both great players Period.

hahaha Dutch Boyd is a sucker. But a lucky one.

It must be nice to be able to suck out when you don't even pay attention to the hand.

i think HACHEM knows he can beat DUTCH. a main event bracelet is evidence enough
suitedpairs 5 years ago
you guys are stupid... yes , hachem been going all in one too many times...so dutch had to call sometimes right? you cant let him win the pot cause he goes all in...geez but if they was to play REAL POKER...dutch would beat him..just watch them play. HACHEM knows he cant beat dutch, so he plays all in..thats what pple usually do duh.
kal96 5 years ago
Dutch is the one that went all in with the A5... not to mention putting Joe all in 4 other times significantly behind - Dutch got outplayed and Hachem got robbed.
stevensjv 5 years ago
we're stupid, yet you don't know the difference between short stacked and short handed, yeah that makes sense
theiveslikeus 5 years ago
what an fn joke. Hachem should of won that. Ace 5 beat ace queen, that just shows stupid plays can win at poker.
ryantxq03t 5 years ago
actually, it shows that bad beats can cost you a WSOP bracelet. joe got unlucky, but hats off to the way he handled himself
suitedpairs 5 years ago
SOOOOOOOOOOOOO SICK joe is so much better then dutch
degenerationx010 5 years ago
theres a poker god after all...going all in all the time is not poker.
kal96 5 years ago
they are short handed, it's gonnna happen, and he went all in with the best hand every time against Dutch
theiveslikeus 5 years ago
hes not that short handed.joe just couldnt play agaist him. all in is what pple do when they cant win its opponent.
kal96 5 years ago
they were heads up! you can't get any more short handed than that!
you are thinking about short stacked, different thing, and yes Hachem was S/stacked, and its the right play heads up, and you have to be critical of Dutch for being stupid for making ridiculous calls
theiveslikeus 5 years ago
obviously some of you havent read cardplayer.
