A little research I did reveals that the aircrews of the B58, came to appreciate the aircrafts' design and performance, however the B58 was never "easy" to fly.
Nevertheless, this aircraft, if needed, could deliver death and destruction to tens of thousands of people at over 1,400 MPH
My father flew in Convair B-58's during mid-60's as Navigator/Bombadier. He said its main advantage was its endurance at supersonic (Mach 2+) speed. Fighter-interceptors would use all their fuel in climb to altitude and pursuit before reaching weapons range.
Much like the SR-71 could fly unchallenged in it's time. They could see it on radar, but couldn't do much to stop it.
"Fandango702" Excellent information and insight. Thank you and thank your father for sharing. I can clearly see now why the crews "appreciated the aircraft's performance".
They also reinforced the wings with a honey come structure to take the added stress at high speeds, and it was one of the few planes to have actual escape pods that enclosed the ejected pilots incase of an emergency.
do you think fs2004 is better than fsx? i have fsx, i dont like the default planes... what are they in fs9?
Nice vid, i flew this on fsx and its amazing
