Hi I'm a student currently studying Animation at university, I have a few short animations that I have created and would extremely appreciate if anyone would take a minute view them :)
Please subscribe as I will be adding more animations as they are done.
Give some constructive comments and let me know what you think.
@BboyTzilla Please watch some basic tutorials on maya modeling, go to 3dtotal.com or other free tutorial sites. You can use the split polygon tool to do the cuts etc.
Brother, I am not Indian, I am from Bangladesh. The reason I did too many modeling is because my modeling does not satisfy me. I vowed that I will keep practicing until I am better at modeling and will not concentrate on rigging and animation unless I am a better modeler first. That is why. But these days I am learning rigging again and also doing rigging and animation along with modeling and texturing for a PC video game. I will share those works in my website once the game is out.
@sampad01 Sorry, it's a classic mistake for us to make... as i don't recognize the accent, i tend to think you are indian, which is the biggest and most known country from that region... my apologies! and thanks for your videos!
@TERRANCIO Hey no need to be sorry! I was just trying to make myself known as who I really am, that's all and clear the confusions. And as you can see... I have used Indian songs all over my vids cos I like Indian music :) and that is why people always think that I must be an Indian myself :)
@TERRANCIO cinema prod?quality cgi is hardly used in indian cinema but it has seen a dramatic increase in last couple of years..however the ratio of good animators amongst indians is 3 out of crowd of 100...u can see crap all around in indian cg industry..n almost majority of people end up joining different profession when they frustrate n fail at it..n it happens bec there is no discipline in art, anyways just wrote to clearify a myth
@rahulcamma Try some zbrush tutorials then. They are cool for creatures. People hardly use box modeling technic for creature modeling these days. They do the whole thing with zspheres and after the sculpting they retopologize them.
Thats not how I like to do things, thats all. I kinda like less detail and more forms and shapes. I hate modeling creatures and monsters. Zbrush is mostly for those things. But I do prefer the cloth folds done into similar programs like that.
How long did this take? Everytime I start modeling a head, I'll spend a couple of days on it, hate the eyes and mouth, and quit. I'm going to try this method. This looks really cool. Thanks!
I really dont remember the name of the songs and I neither have them anymore. They were in my old hard disk. But they are both Lucky Ali;s songs. I was surprised t o find these songs too because I have never heard them in any of his albums.
Wow, at first i was thinking: "why is this guy boxmodeling, way to much work" But your technique is amazing, and works faster than extrudes i guess.. Very interesting! You are a talented modeler!
Nope... just manually turn off the shading of your model if you are working with a image reference polygonal plane or something like that behind your model. That way u can see through your model and edit in wire mode. I made a simple MEL command to turn that on and off frequently.
hey dude.... what do those MEL code do in yoru modelling? i dont know anything on mel man... if they are not really effective then i am gonna start using ur tutorial to model my own head...great tutorial by the way..
Sampad, one more question. This time not about modeling. What is the name of artist, who wrote that soundtracks you use? I like it, but my TrackID cant identify it =) Thanks again.
And my second question (the first took up the entire post, haha) - how would your approach differ if you were modeling, say, a cartoon character with a strange shaped head like Homer Simpson? Do you try to adapt this workflow into every head you make (starting with the neck, extruding for the head, etc.), or do you approach each head differently?
I think your first answer is called "Point snapping the pivot point of vertices to the center".
Just select the vertices and hold v on keyboard. Then middle mouse button drag over any vertice/ point you wish and all the verices will snap to that point. But if you hit INSERT key once first and then hold v and mmb drag over any point, the vertices wont move, on the contrary, their pivot point will jump to that point and you can then move, rotate or scale from that point.
The answer to your second question is.. I don't follow any strict method. I actually think about how the model will be rigged and animated and also how I will feel comfortable to UV and texture it. I always try to keep the topology as clean and Animation-friendly as possible. I also try to keep the number of polygons as low as possible. And then it doesn't matter if I model it from poly to poly or by extruding a box. Thanks for your curiosity.
Very nice workflow! I hope to model like this someday! I have a couple questions though:
1.Around 3:25 - 3:27, You extrude the faces for the mouth and then scale inwards. At first, the edges at the center are scaled inwards too, but then you undo it and scale it again, and the second time the edges at the center remain snapped to the center. I've been trying to figure this out forever. How do you do this? (Do you know the name of the command? Not the hotkey cuz I changed most of mine).
Sampad your the best modeler I've seen. But if you could please slow it down a bit. My final this quarter is to build a model and animate it. so i could use some pointers. Great job!
yes I do have the original slow videos... but its gonna take a while for me to upload all of them. I have to split it into 10 minutes per clip because youtube doesn't support more than that. I wish I could just hand it to u. I live in Bangladesh, you know.... its a long way :)

Why are so many indian people doing modeling, is it maybe because of their huge cinema production?
