Tasers are a fairly recent tool, and they have even been used on little kids, the disabled, and grandmothers. The officer was employed with the BART Police Department, which stands for Bay Area Rapid Transit. This department is in no way linked to the Oakland PD. Second, there is no subway in Oakland. Better than being beat with a baton, or palm heel striked to the chin, or choked out...The officers don't want to get hurt in a scuffle with an intoxicated man so they use a taser. Plain and simple. If you had a taser for protection, and someone wanted to fight you because they were intoxicated, would you just go hand to hand? NO
