  • What I didn't realize until Renzo himself said it after a screening was that many of the things he said are direct quotes from NGO policy, World Bank policy and what the Missionaries used to say.

I believe he also meant that by not showing something that is an exception (things being done and improvements helping people) but instead showing what is usually the case (people suffering and things not changing) he showed a more objective and true representation of the situation.

  • what bloody right does he have to tell those people to ENJOY? the poverty?

it's their own bloody business. I find the whole film just an attempt at trying to shock the audience by making some obscure statement. The question I have is. what on earth did the director try to achieve with making this film??? Certainly not to raise awareness of the proverty there of increase the willingness to help.

If anything, it seems rather like the opposite.

  • Seams like a very intersting film.. Is this movie for sale anywhere or viewable online? heard a lot about it, but cannot find it..

  • GE-WEL-DIG

  • I love the irony and sarcasm that renzo portrays in the film... or as renzo tries to say in the end:

it may just be pure vanity on his part.

  • One hell of a party. B-)

  • i saw the film in debali in Amsterdam i find it a very brave and inspiring film. Thank you Renzo

  • caught this at hotdocs as well but didn't get to ask my question during the Q&A and had to do so in person afterward. if the thesis of this film is correct- it's impossible for the ppl featured in the film to transcend their poverty. why should we think it's possible for us to transcend the harm we do to the developing world through the levers of mechanical advantage of globalization/neo-liberalism/etc.

  • (cont)each of the ngo's mentioned in the film had good intentions at its conception(and still do) that were gradually corrupted and co-opted over time so why should we think any activism we are able to mobilize wouldn't fall victim to a similar dialectical erosion? the film suggests all efforts to change the situations depicted have sought only to treat the symptoms but not the disease of the overarching structures of late capitalism.

  • (cont)my question was how can we ensure that the actions we take transcend the structure(s) and power relations(renzo's verbiage) responsible for this hegemony without being complicit with them. if there is no answer to this then, just as his message to them is to enjoy poverty(find what solace they are able to in day-to-day life without expectation of liberation from their condition), we in the west/first-world/developed-countries should simply "enjoy decadence/affluence" for the same reasons.

  • I watched Episode 3 at Hot Docs and after was intrigued by the Q&A. Renzo was very clear about his work, but I was amazed that the audience, while totally engaged in the work asked him about his continuing political action, about NGOs he might support. I think the audience wanted another answer to the challenge that this film asserts. How can anyone recover, process and continue in their safety after such an experience? Certainly not by donating money, not just that. So much to this film...

  • I met renzo martin last year in Italy, I saw a preview extract of this project and I must say that I love it, is an amazing idea and what I watched gave me a very strong emotion ... I would like to see the whole film right now that is finished!!!!

I wish the best for Renzo his wanderful project!!!!
