The original episodes came out when I went to Corfu with my girlfriend, now wife of over 21 years, and the theme music brings back so many memories of the beautiful countryside away from the busy bar areas. Does anyone know if the theme music is available separately?
@jhcmbl I don't think a soundtrack was released for this. I mean, I'd definitely buy if there was but I don't think they made one unfortunately. I love the theme song with the whistling... Unrelated note: I found my book of My Family And Other Animals literally just yesterday! It's 24yrs old! That means I was 8 going on 9 when I read it. =O) I'll have a look for the soundtrack a bit later and will let you know if I find anything. Would you likewise let me know if you find it please mate...?
oh thank you so much!! My favorite movie! Those old British TV-series are just precious :) And this one seems to be much closer to the original, than the new film (2005). The book..... oh, it was extremely popular in Soviet in my childhood
I remember this on TV... I was 8 when it was on. I actually remember the music very clearly, there's something about the whistling that I adore! I also bought the book, quite a read considering I was just 8 years old.
@nickthelick Oh, how nice, my copy is from about 1982 I think, before the BBCseries - but I was much older than you when I read it. And I think mine is not in the attic, but in my basement store room somewhere :0)
I love this movie too, I am also from former USSR. I love a lot of things about it, especially natural curiosity , happiness and humor. Those are rare qualities in modern society comparing to an artificial world we live in.
i love these series and the music especially. It reminds me of a sunshinelike chidlhood spent in Georgia (former USSR) with my grandparents. Thank you for the placing these series here.
Excellent film. In the 2005 version they dressed me up to play in the scene where the family arrives at Achilleion hotel on a carriage and dogs ran after them.Unfortunately although I am a dark looking Greek, they chose an English person to sit outside the hotel with the head down.

For peeps who want to hear the soundtrack go here -
darylrunswick(dot)net/myfam(dot)html
(I've had to type it this way otherwise Youtube won't let me post it up!)
It's the website for the guy who originally wrote the theme music. Enjoy! =O)
PS You'll need to shut the songs off when the page loads, cos they all start playing at once!!!

@nickthelick I agree about the music, the whistling is very hypnotic, atmospheric. And I loved the show.
