  • Please post some more of this if you have the whole gig. There are only three people who can make me cry with laughter, Tommy Cooper, Billy Connolly and Derek Blaster Bates. Just watching this one clip had me going....thank you thank you.

  • Thanks to my late uncle, I've had Bates' material for a great many years! I didn't know he was still "conducting talks" until about 2002 or there abouts and missed a lot... I hope all will forgive my selfishness for my saying it's a bloody shame I will never see him live on stage!

  • RIP Derek Macintosh Bates

    (5 February 1923 – 1 September 2006)

Still spend many a night listening to Blasters Storys

Grew up on listenin to my dads records of blaster he was Superb.

Id describe him as Incredible and Irreplaceable man.

Told his Storys and filled us with Laughter with each one.

Was good to see this video on here.

  • I was a lad in the 70's and he took me for a ride on his scrambler in a sand quarry, what a guy he was

  • RIP Derek Missed greatly

  • This man was a legend, my Dad was a big fan and listened to his records that's when I also heard and found his story's hysterical. Fortunately I was able to see him twice live on stage at the Civic Theater in Doncaster, he was wonderful and had people rolling in the isles, he will be missed but still lives in his recordings. "Watch out for the bits!!!".

  • This guy was an absolute legend. Laughter with a Bang is the funniest album I have ever heard

  • i ve got all his stuff. he was a star.Unfortunately not hugely known,

which is a pity for the majority of people

    who love comedy.There,s nothing better

than putting on a cd of his, and just lose yourself in his stories.

    HE WAS SHEER MAGIC

  • Thanks for keeping his spirit alive. Saw him in Woore village hall many years ago, and I also grew up with his records. Hope to see his full works available on cd.

  • Blaster was a friend of my granddad. one day he gave my granddad a lift in his van, my granddad saw a small bottle rolling on the top of the dashboard and and asked what it was Blaster replyed never mind that its harmless it only nitroglycerin the detonators are under your seat lol.

  • I was there. The Corbet, Market Drayton.

  • Top banter. I was lucky enough to see him live many years ago at the Black Lion in Patcham near Brighton. My memory of that evening is a room full of people laughing until they cried. He'll be missed.

  • Just like many I grew up listening to Blaster and like lots of U out there my Father had most of his records.

To cap it though I had the opportunity to attend a dinner where Blaster was the guest speaker and invited Dad along too.

Unbeknow to him he was sat next to blaster and spent the evening in his company, what a delight it was to see my Dads face there were about 250 people in the room and he was there next to Blaster on the top table.

I am so pleased I did this for Dad, God bless him.
