@FredericoCoelhoNunes Thanks for your comment. Since this was recorded in 2006 (almost six years ago) the kids you see here have gone on to some pretty impressive things. The bassist has graduated from Berklee college of music in Boston as a performance and composition major and is currently busy as a professional musician. The guitarist on the right has already toured the world in a few hard core bands.
The other guitarist teaches special ed and writes songs to help with his teaching. The keyboardist is just finishing up at Chapman University as a composition major. The singer is a music major at a local college and continues to pursue that. The drummer is going to be transferring to a four year university as a sound tech major and is in a really good group called Sea of Skies which is preparing on touring in the spring.
Okay, I'm usually against precocious kid bands, but this is quite impressive. Vocals are the hardest for kids this age, and it shows here. Still, I have to salute their effort and successes.
Wow, fantastic cover! Really tight, confident playing. Don't quite get all the harsh comments on here though - I'm sure Genesis themselves would be proud. I just wish I had been as good as this when I was 14-16... sigh!
Seriously, the last few people that wrote, what the hell is wrong with you people. For a group of seasoned pros to even attempt this song would be admirable, but a group of 14 to 16 year olds? Good lord, even the attempt deserves kudos of the highest order!! Hats of to the individuals in this video, you all have phenomenal futures ahead of you if this is what you choose to do for your life!! Even Genesis would be proud of you! Best to all of you in your futures!!

Good vocalist. Wrong song for him. His falsetto sucks major ass. But i mean, falsetto is a plus on a singer, not a must. His voice is otherwise pretty fucking good. Instrumentals are brilliant except for some keyboard patches which sound weak at times. You got a lot of time ahead guys, so keep on keeping on. Best of Lucks.
Thanks for the comment. This was done nearly four years ago. To update, the bass player is about to graduate from Berklee College of Music in Boston in Jazz Composition, the singer is her brother and is also currently at Berklee as a guitar major. The keyboardist is at Chapman University as a composition major. The guitarist in red was in the band Underneath the Gun signed to Ferret Records and now touring with another signed band. The drummer is in a touring progrock group Souljourners.
Great job kids! It would of been nice to see the front man dressed in some weird stuff like peter gabriel...lol...that would have been a nice touch to it i think!
I was the drummer of this band. Here is what we are up to; I am in an alternative rock band now as well as a cover band with my father, Lee Zimmer. The bass player is at Berklee. The singer is playing guitar in 2 of the center's bands, as he is still of age. The lead guitarist(right) is the lead guitarist of hardcore band Underneath the Gun. I am not too sure about the rhythm guitarist(house left). The keyboardist has won some awards for music composition, apparently hes damn good at it -Paul
I'm really impressed to see & hear young people playing this song. This song is really, really complicate in rythm, sound. My big respect to this band!
Great job! You're keeping Genesis' classics alive! You're all very talented. I think Tony Banks would be proud of that keyboard player! You guys on guitars rock!
Appallingly bad singing and average drumming, but still quite faithful copying of the intrumental arangement - the chords are spot on. But I can't see what all the fuss is about looking at these hysterical comments! It's a fantastic song, by a fantastic band (Genesis) but why start cumming over a covers band doing an inferior version?
numbskullandy. What you don't get is 14 to 16 year olds learning classic great music. These students started their music in the classes at the Fender Center. They weren't pulled into the band as "ringers" from outside.
The signer is really good guitarist as well. The bass player finished her first year at Berklee School of Music in Boston on a full scholarship, and majoring in performance and jazz composition. The other kids are all doing something on their own musically performing in original groups. This was a cool learning situation along their musical career, hopefully a positive one. This same band got to be the backing band for Joe Walsh as well. What do you have to offer the future of music?
Unbelieveable! Astounding..i still i have goose bumps..its sooo good to see you guys & girls playing Genesis w/PG...I still have goose bumps that kids yer age playing that stuff & sooo incredibly well...i'm at my wall st trading desk and now at a bank and i can't even concentrate..where are u from? do u ever play around New Jersey? more info pls...
Bloody impressive job guys and girl!! What a great performance - you have an assured future as a cover band, hope you can also write your own stuff though...
Way to cover one of the best genesis songs ever! For those of you who do not know the song, it was about a giant hogweed that a victorian explorer discovered and brought home to London and the infestation that followed (hogweed is worse than poison ivy).
alright dudes, this kicked ass...you gotta GO nuts though maN! I wanna see hair flying, people dancing jumping up and down, heads bobbing, come on now!!! This song is CRAZY POWERFUL TEAR IT APART MAN FULL EMOTION!!!!
Saw the link here on the paperlate-genesis group and had to join youtube just so I could say what a fantastic job this is. Thanks for an awesome job of covering my favorite band!
Thank you so much for the comments. It's my joy to work with these bands on the music they're playing. I grew up listening and playing prog rock and it's great when you see that young kids are still exited about this amazing music.
I know its cliche to say so, but the Mars Volta have been actually making progressive rock and the idea of long, fiendishly technical compositions cool again for young people, and rightly so. Seeing people like this go out of their way to challenge their ability as musicians in the live arena is not just a hopeful sign for tommorow, more like an open invitation for others to follow, and it is happening.
My friend, kudos to you and kudos to these young men...when they begin fully recording their own music I will do as much as I can to champion their good name.
Good to see young folks intrested is some of the 70's progressive era music. And the Gabriel/Genesis music was the best of that genre. Excellent work!!!
You guys aboslutely nailed the last part, really good! Fantastic cover
Congrats from Portugal, you guys are gonna be beyod awesome when you are older
