Your liver just has to work extra hard this time to process all the toxins and filter them out again... but the water content that you need to survive is there... Most Army units have a filtering machine for them to be able to filter their urine in desert missions like that...

@secondplayer2 usually your urine is sterile when it leaves the body, unless you have an illness, but you can't catch something you don't already have from your own urine. don't drink other peoples though, as if they have microscopic haematuria theres a chance of getting hepatitus etc, also you could get yeast infection in your mouth etc.

I've read other survival information that recomends not dronking your pee. I suppose that if you are on the brink of going batty from dehydration it may be an alternative, but the experts are not in complete agreement on this one.

@cheekyfumes yeah drinking urine if you're already dehydrated will just make you more dehydrated, but if you are well hydrated and your urine is quite pale and not cloudy it won't do much harm, but if its quite dark you could evaporate it and catch the condensation to make clean water, or some filters can make it drinkable i think an osmosis filter should work as it can remove the salts from sea water should work for urine??

It's safe to drink your own urine depending on how diluted it is. If it's yellow, it may be okay to drink, but the second time around it will be very concentrated (brown color) and do more harm than good.
